Prices for these things.

I'd love a microcar to fiddle about with. Why on earth are they so bloody expensive? This is already at over a grand. Seems a lot for what will effectively be an ornament (not really a vehicle for motorway journeys). I think I might just lash a few bits of wood together, lob a scooter engine on top and flog the hash-job for ££££s. Easy profit!

Sitting at home drinking. Day off tomorrow. £2500 available on my credit card and looking at this on the bay.

Dickhead of the year award if I continue drinking and hit the wrong button.

The pissed side of my brain is telling me that it has proven and basic mechanicals and therefore is a sensible choice.

What's the worst that could happen?

Mongs on retro rides.

Posted up a for sale thread with some bits from the white 480 I R breaking. Mentioned other things available from the car that were not pictured in the thread. I mentioned what else was available. One thing I stated that the car definitely didn't have, were alloys. I said that the car 'doesn't have alloys'.

Several minutes later I get:

what alloys are they

Seriously lads, start the thresher.

Spent the day stripping down the MG Metro, I was quite excited on getting started on the restoration as I have a clear idea of the finished article. Unfortunatly I fear the terminal rot uncovered will mean the finished article will be frag fodder.... :(

To the bald headed thirty something in the silver 11 plate Corsa with his foglights on at 1PM on a perfectly clear day, yes I did see the frustrated look on your face and the muttering of what I presume were rude words as you approached the mini roundabout that you were going to be stuck behind the 22 year old Nissan rapidly approaching from the right. I hope the ecofail or whatever lump it has fitted blows up tomorrow.

Fuji Finepix Z20. Very nice compact digital camera, expensive too - £100.

Somehow its screen was smashed while in the hold of a plane, and the quotes to fix it ranged from £70 - £80. Well, buoyed by my success repairing a digital camera in the past I ordered a new screen from eBay and set about taking it apart. And botched it so severely it won't even turn on anymore and the front of the case doesn't fit properly.

So that's actually cost me more than if the camera had been stolen.

So do I, wish I never started poking around! It's so rotten on the underside of the guttering the roof hardly seems attached between at the A and C pillars! The general consensus on the Metro owners club is when the guttering goes its game over. Also the front panel, valance, both front footwells etc etc are suffering  However, I'm committed to fixing if it is repairable, my knowledge of welding is zero so I'll have to get some expert opinions....

Everything van related on AutoTrader being listed as export, presumably means they are knackered?

I guess the gutters also serve as the seams between panels. I always thought the rust was just what could be seen on the surface as the rest seemed solid. I hope you don't find any more nasties.

Incessant e mail surveys. Salford, you'd be very upset if you actually bothered to ask me properly.

We haven't received module feedback forms for our video journalism course. Oooh, I wonder why? Why can you send me some mithering bollocks from a head of school about general 'experience' questions, but not for the modules that were complete crap?

Dear student,

I contacted you twice in the last two weeks asking for help with my

research. As today (midnight) is the deadline of submitting the

questionnaires I would like to take an opportunity to thank you very

much for your help, if you have already responded to my request.

However, if you have not had a chance to do it yet then I would be very

grateful if you could spend a couple of minutes in completing the

questionnaire by using this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SFV2MNF

Your help is really appreciated as every single response matters a lot

to my research.

This research is anonymous but if you are not interested in

participating in it please simply ignore this message and accept my

apologies for taking your time to read it.

I don't like its tone, and I cannot be bothered. Stop cluttering up my sodding inbox. I have people turning me down for interviews \ research for coursework all the time. DEAL WITH IT. Has it ever occurred to you that I might be busy, and not on my e mail all the time? Has it?

Don't be so ungrateful Wat, I've filled it out.

If they only get my "highly unsatisfied" survey then they will dismiss it as statistically insignificant, however if they get yours and those of all your Autoshite friends it will make the faculty look rather awful.

It's probably to highlight the fact to exporters. In the same sort of way people used to type 'Ford Cortina not Cavalier 406 Escort Mk2' into their ebay listings to attract those that search for key words.

Sweet, camera ordered. Thanks! I don't mind losing the money on the new screen, I knew it was a gamble trying to fix it. Tiny plastic comb on the end of a ribbon connector disintegrated while I was trying to get it back together - thought it would be okay since it was just a scaled down version of a laptop keyboard connector.

There was an 'add to basket' button there before. Check again in a few days - looks like they only keep the odd one in stock.

What the fuck are Ordnance Survey playing at? "Getamap" used to pop up a wee window and you got about 16 squares of map - now I have to update my operating system and install a fucking Microsoft plug-in to view a fucking OS map? Fuck off!

Had a quick look using Firefox, still works ok and didn't ask for any plug in crap.

WARNING: Epic levels of sniveling self-pity approaching.

Apparently, once I've factored in the commuting costs, and the extra alcohol I'd no longer 'need' to consume during the week, I'd only be around £20/week worse off if I were jobless and living off the state. Now, I've always prided myself on never having claimed a penny of benefit in my life (no disrespect to anyone who's had to) and I've always detested those who did it through choice, including members of my extended family. However, I now find myself seriously considering it.

Normally 'self-respect' would prevent me, but today it dawned on me that being 32 and earning roughly the same as a toilet-cleaner after 7 years of mindless office-based toil, while taking an un-ending stream of negativity and politely-worded abuse from patronising, less intelligent shits who have never done my job but know exactly how I should be doing it better, and working under managers who just smile and pat me on the back when I tell them I physically cannot handle the workload I've been left with, while trying to convince irritable publics that we're in the right when I know full well that we're shafting them royally and couldn't actually give a toss about their health because our targets are more important, and generally feeling more and more like a balding overweight loser every fucking day.......... self-respect suddenly doesn't really figure.

I don't have kids who I need to set an example to, I'm genuinely past caring what friends & family think of my choices, and I'm mildly concerned about my liver. Finding another job is not an option in this part of the world. Asking for a transfer would result in an even worse position (see previous mention of toilet-cleaners. I wasn't exaggerating) I'm over-qualified for the kind of solitary, stress-free jobs I'm realistically looking at, and under-qualified for the kind of jobs that I've done before and am good at/derive some small pleasure from. Starting my own business would be great, if everyone wasn't so skint - everyone I know who's self-employed is having a major nightmare at the moment. I'm too old to start becoming a fully-qualified electrician/plumber/plasterer/etc etc.

So someone convince me to keep going through the motions, otherwise the world of dole-scrounging beckons seductively. Oh, and I've tried telling myself to Man The Fuck Up and Stop Bloody Moaning, and it didn't work.

Sorry for the Wat-style levels of discontent

Have a picture by way of apology:

I've got an S5800 bridge camera to sell....£60 quid posted to anyone here. It's in mint condition, always had a protective cover on the screen and takes fantastic photos. Boxed with everything that came with it... I've just upgraded to a bigger zoom one thats all.

..Obviously cant convince you as such, but when I was a child my mother would have been better off giving up up her job, and she had very few outgoings (didnt drink/smoke/commute or have any social type costs) but chose to maintain self respect and hopefully have a better chance of improving her job in the future.

..She never really improved her job, but I'm sure she has no regrets in staying in work during that time.

Can you not get an old dears 1.0 litre beige HL and swap everything over?

(I realise sound 1980-1984 Metros are not as common as they were were 5 years ago, but got to worth a try if the MG bits on yours are still good)

If you do give up your job you will get even more fed up as you will have loads of free time and nothing to do in it. Plus having to visit the job centre and sit amongst the Jeremy Kyle rejects will be enough to convince you being unemployed ain't fun

Was sold a car a few months ago that I later (a couple of days) found out had the wrong log book and plates, blah blah etc.

The bloke who sold it to me is messing me around now, so is there anyway I can take action against him for selling a blatantly cloned vehicle? The car was pennies and isn't worth anything to me (I won't lose out). I haven't done anything wrong so far so it won't come back to me. His name is on the logbook.

Fair point, and I don't regret the 7 years I've spent in the same awful place as opposed to sponging, but self-respect means less and less as time passes, partly because of the job itself! I too don't smoke or 'go out', and probably wouldn't drink anywhere near as much if I didn't have to face a dead-end career prospect.

That's the thing, I would actually be able to fill most of my waking hours, albeit not very constructively. I reckon after 4 months or so, I'd have finished remodelling the garden and tweaking the inside of the house, then I could devote my time to restoring old bikes, practising guitar, photographing random shit, and getting artistic. Good point on the job centre waiting-room though...

On reflection, I'm probably just hitting the time of life when you realise that barring a minor miracle, you're stuck in whatever rut you happen to be in, indefinitely. Eventually I'll just move on to growing weed or playing online rpgs all night. Either that or getting into football. :P
