No government has been even vaguely socialist in this country since the 1950s.

I know Americans are taught in school that socailism is the most evil thing on the planet, which seems to be why every country they don't understand are God-damn Commies who need invading and McDonalds.

Couldn't agree more............And Americans wonder why the rest of the world despises them.

you could argue that the last socialist government in Britain came in in 1946!

Mind you, apart from a short period at the start of the twentieth century, we haven't had much in the way of socialism in this country, full stop.

The rest of the world despises the Americans because for all of their history, they have either been isolationist and not wanted to speak to anyone, only becoming involved in the world stage when it has had direct effects on them, and nowadays, is being ruled by big business. Let's face it, they chose to abandon the southern states after Katrina, they chose to arm Bin laden, they chose to screw up the Middle East again, but they're getting their come-uppence cos the Chinese, the Indians and the Brazilians are going to be the new world superpowers - America just hasn't noticed, yet!

Well said messerschmitt owner.

The US don't seem to realise that the majority of under 30s across Europe and much of the rest of the world despise them. I would love to see the rest of the world isolating the US by refusing to trade with them.

I've been on my death bed for about a week now, but today felt a little brighter, so decided to go to a supermarket to buy tinned Spag Bol. Yeah I know. The journey there was entriely uneventful. The journey back was utter shite. To exit the supermarket car park involves a small urban street, leading to a simple traffic light controlled crossroads. A fact lost on the "lady" in the black Focus Estate opposite. Almost the entire queue of people turning right had gone through the green light, until it was my turn, as I was in the middle of the junction, amber light "just" coming on, she decided to lurch forward, right into my path. A sharp jab on the brakes woke up the bloke behind, and I thought we would make it through. No. The Focus driver had her window down, and stopped dead in front of me, directing weeks worth of abuse at me........... I'm not aware I did a thing wrong. The bloke in the White Fiat behind was quite calm about it all. He just shouted and waved his arms out of the window in true Roman style. I would love to educate Focus "driver" in the ways of traffic lights. i.e. Green = It should be safe to go, Red = Stop, Amber means don't do anything different to what you are doing already, but be prepared to stop. Dumb bitch.

It's not like I was in a small grey vehicle with no lights on. I was in the Land Rover, it's bright red, almost 8 foot tall, and I had lights on. Grrr.

Blind eyed bastards on the road. AArgh!

My road is still fairly deep in snow up the sides, so there's really only room for one vehicle wide. I'm coming down the hill when I see a big old wagon at the bottom, so I stop where the road is wide ish and flash him to come up. A blind twat in a Vectra behind me decides that I must be stopping for no reason, blares his horn and the screams past, throwing a volley of fucks at me through the (closed) window.

By now, said big old wagon is about halfway up the road, and there is nowhere near room for them both, so the Vectra driver is forced to reverse back up. Rather than reversing back past me, where there was room to pull in, he reverses straight back at me. If I hadn't seen him coming and started moving back myself, I'm fairly sure he'd have just reversed straight into me. What an absolute cock of the highest order.

I wonder if he was born to be a nobhead, or if driving such a fucking soul destroyingly horrible car as ineptly as this turned him into one.

Of course, you could have "helped him" by directing him further into the layby.....

Sigh......... BBC brainwashing with the state-controlled media strikes again.

If the BBC are brainwashing people, then what would you call the actions of Glenn Beck and the rest of the Fox news crew? Fair and balanced?

Blitz:

The BBC is far more impartial than any commercial channel.

I would seriously question your view on which nation is brainwashed.

Anyway, I'm not going to start another arguement on here so that's the last I'll say on the matter.

Huh? They aren't subsidized by any government. A private TV channel can do whatever programming it wants. We have this crazy thing called "The First Amendment", right to free speech and assembly. It's telling that you didn't ask about the unfairness and imbalance of NPR, CPB, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and dozens other outlets. Odd you select one privately run media channel. So far as I know, Beck doesn't hold himself out to be a journalist, but has a talk show, prominently labelled as opinion, not as news programming. Who cares anyway.

He doesn't claim he's a journalist, but about 40% of the USA think he's not just a journalist, but some sort of saviour of the country. Yes, I selected Fox because it is (In my opinion) probably the least balanced news outlet outside North Korea, who thrive on spreading misinformation both for personal gain in increasing viewership, and to further their own political interests.

Ignoring Fox for now, I can say with a great deal of confidence that the journalism produced by the BBC is respected world over for it's quality, and this is purely down to the way it is state funded. In theory, it shouldn't work, but it really does.

Being sat at a distance and watching what is happening to America is quite depressing, watching 50% of the nation fight so fiercely against change that would benefit those exact same people after being (I'd rather not use the word, but:) "Brainwashed" by the media into it. The media which is very clearly controlled by a select few individuals.

It's not only depressing because I can see a nation that I used to think was "the best country in the world" with a huge percentage of people struggling financially, people being bankrupted through needing fairly basic medical care, and the people that these health insurance companies do accept having to pay many times what people in most of the rest of the civilised world pay for healthcare. It's also depressing because any major collapse in the USA will have a serious impact on the UK and Europe, but also directly on me because I have a lot of family in the USA, and work for an American company.

It's also very frustrating, because 50% of America and most of the rest of the world can see EXACTLY what is happening.

Anyway Norm, I'll leave it at that, I wish you and your country well.

I'll get back to talking about shite old cars. My Auntie (in California) has a Chrysler grand voyager and all the instruments and interior lights stopped working 5 years ago, there is no paint left on the roof or bonnet and kickdown takes about 15 seconds. I drove it around for a couple of weeks and it was GR8 until one of the wheels fell off on highway 17.

Oh god. Yeah, we better leave it alone. Very tempted to give you about 1000 examples of BBC bias, plain untruths, and political agenda. The Euros gave America slavery. Americans elected a black head of state by majority vote. Where's your minority prime minister? Or Germany's? Or France's? I think the rectal-brain inversion is on your side of the ocean. America is a wide open land of opportunity and holds a hand out to anyone of any political opinion, religion, or race. We have no state religion, no royals, no wig-wearing landholding dukes or barons with public office passing down from right of heredity. You have all that. In spite of it, we don't lecture you. You lecture us!

And therefore you should know your place peasant.

I know I'm jumping on a bandwagon, but Frankie Boyle is a vile unfunny piece of work.

I heard the news about the complaint and decide to watch the show to find out what its like. From start to finish its vile, tasteless, disturbing and not funny. I've never been keen on him (having only seen him on "panel" shows) but I'm suprised he has fans. :|

I used to enhoy the odd comment of his on Mock the Week, but on his own he is rubbish and just offensive. He is one of the comedians that get picked up by a massive bandwagon and carried forwards until everyone realises they are shite/not as good as they thought they were. He'll disappear and the next you'll hear of him is that he's topped himself/OD'd leaving massive debts etc etc.

The complaint is from Katie Price about this:

'Jordan and Peter Andre are still fighting each other over custody of Harvey - eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him.'

'I have a theory about the reason Jordan married a cage fighter - she needed a man strong enough to stop Harvey from f****** her...'

But the whole show was fairly rank. A sketch about a small mythical creature raping a rabbit? WTF?

It seems the only thing he can do is slag people off, for me it got old very quickly.

Oh and the reason I watched was not to jump on the bandwagon, I thought I'd give it a chance as people can get very touchy about comedy... but this time I agreed.

Frankie Boyle picking on obvious twats who are evil and deserve it is funny. His comments on Nick Griffin for instance: "He looks like a plucked owl that's been fast-tracked for management at Greggs." That still makes me laugh like a drain. But I'm sorry, picking on disabled children just isn't on really is it? I mean, you don't point and laugh and disable folk in the street (I hope) so I can't see why it's alright to do it if some man on the telly says so.

What's funny and what's offensive is all down to personal taste. I was laughing at a joke about Jeremy Beadle just last week which is pretty tasteless I'll admit.

I think what wound me up about FB is that the whole programme (I did try and give it a chance) was him being rude, abusive and very twisted. Like I said, for me it just got old very quickly. I think theres a difference between raising a laugh by saying something shocking and unexpected and only saying shocking stuff in order to raise a laugh. In fact, I didn't smile more than once I think.

I'm no supporter of Katie Price either, in fact I couldn't really give a toss. But her son didn't choose to put himself "out there" as a target.

Boyle's schtick does get a bit tedious. Poor man's Jerry Sadowitz.

Jeremy Beadle jokes are very often offensive, but on the other hand they can be quite funny.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

While I don't mind any amount of abuse being given to Jordan, it's a low blow dishing abuse out to her son. But I did find it funny, and it's not like he's going to pick up a newspaper and read jokes about himself in it (This particular joke was mostly unintentional)

I'm the most un-PC person of evAr but after watching Frankie Boyles show I wasn't impressed. Its not that he's particularly offensive, just not that funny.

I just flicked over to BBC1 and Frankie Boyle and this sketch was on, It's a piss take of the children's show 5 children and It, where It is a sand fairly who grants the a wish a day, I saw a few minutes of this sketch and both me and my wife found it uncomfortable viewing, Breaking his legs, spitting in his face, the raping of the rabbit was a bit strong for my liking to be found funny.

I turned over to something much more amusing, like Deuce Bigalow, The male gigalow.

I've seen a bit of it and it seemed reasonable enough to me, but I'm of the opinion that if it gets a laugh, there aren't any boundaries. I find it incredibly difficult to be offended by something which isn't real.

Though I recently saw a bit of the Stephen K Amos show and felt offended, just because of how absolutely rubbish it was.

frankie boyle TV show has been (after 2 episodes) cringy and uncomfortable viewing IMO, but these same jokes (from the stand up bit of the show) i found funny when i watched a couple of weeks ago;

fraaa.jpg

slapper jordan obviously hasnt seen the DVD yet - as the same joke is present

Stephen K Amos - never heard of him - i ll have to find a live show and find out

Ricky Gervais - bit cringy, but on the whole funny

Jimmy carr - unnervingly disturbing

the latest bill bailey stand up (Dandelion mind) very funny and not at all offensive

Very true comments above...

Frankie Boyle is TBH a bit shit, using only offensive material.

As for Steven K Amos he is truly pants and in 20 years time we will e able to class him as comedian shite.

If you want proper comedy... listen to the Now Show, thats generally original and completely unoffensive. Comedy can be aided by offense but it should never be solely about offense, when it uses offense it much it just becomes shit.

The Now Show is generally completely unfunny too. Stewart Lee sums these shows up quite well...
