Focus update: It's a bit fixed. Drove it home from the garage.

Having had a few days off from driving it, I can confirm I still absolutely hate it.

What do you plan to change it for?

Christ alone knows.

I have a few things I'd like, nothing really that extraordinary, but due to my age, any insurance company just laughs.

Consider unusual/left field choices, where there isn;t much data re crashes to put the premium up!

Doesn't work. I've tried a lot of different stuff (bearing in mind the criteria I need a car to fulfil) and it's silly money across the board.

With a couple of notable exceptions: brand new stuff that is a good £10k+ above my budget, or a Fiesta ST, which is such a hateful vehicle I'd not be seen dead in one.

Posted

I hear you on budgets. I'm nearly 40 and still paddling in the shallow end of the car buying pool.

Maybe you'll just have to "suffer" the mk1 Focus for a bit longer!

Posted

Yeah, looks like it. I really need to change my car in the next couple of months while I'm (sort of) in a lucky financial position where I can (sort of) afford the initial outlay. Otherwise I'm gonna be stuck with the bastard thing for 5 years while I do an apprenticeship.

Life is too short to be stuck with a car you don't like, bear that in mind.

Total pain in the arse, I've been caught out like that. I always request a receipt now, I'm pretty sure they'll accept that.

This happens so often on Northern I either photograph the ticket while I'm still on the train, or ask to be let through the barrier because I need the ticket for my latest claim. Roll on the day those shithouses lose the franchise.

I need some bits for my SD1. Sadly I am seeing "no longer available" for a few bits.

Sadly this will be my last SD1 I think.

we would try peanut butter, but we don't have any at the moment. :-(

The ultrasonic rat & mice repeller I put in our loft to deter squirrels is doing a fine job. If you can get 240v to your shed it might be worth trying one of those for a while? Peanut butter is, obs, a bit cheaper if you don't have one.

Feld mice or not, I reckon they are living in your house.

It's cold outside.

Yes they’re under the floorboards... they getting in through an air brick and living under there.

So far they’d been well contained to the front room. New entrance was identified and blocked last night. It looks messy but it’ll do the job. Trap didn’t go off last night. Result.

Until I saw one of the little fuckers running across the hall...

I went upstairs with the cups of tea I was carrying and heard a call “Mum... there’s a mouse in my room!!!” One look from Mrs_b told me this was a step dad job!! Little man’s room is down stairs and it looks as if they’re now getting in there. If you’ve ever been in an 11 year olds you’ll know that finding anything (let alone a mouse) is impossible.

The snappy traps are now on order. Amazon will deliver them tomorrow. Then it’ll be the Flintshire Mousetrap massacre... I might even make a mask out of their tiny faces.

Thinking of trying them too...

Currently at Rake Lane a&e. Son has been knocked off his new bike on the way to school. Suspect broken arm.

I remember when we first moved in here, setting loads of snappy traps.  We caught 9 or so, but were sure there was another one we had seen since the last trap.

Eventually we found it - we'd dropped the sofa foot onto it.

WHat don't you like about the Mk1? I found it quite a good steer once it got up to speed around country roads. If it's the 1.6 as well the engines are quite reliable too. Its a shame rot gets to a lot of them

Slept all day yesterday ( I did manage to feed the dogs) and fealt like shit. Up and about today and... I still feel like shit.

Also Amazon. Ordered Phoebe's pills from them and got notice they were delivered. Er, no. Went on their website to try and query this and it is nearly bloody impossible to find. Ended up googling it and going thru from there. Bloody ridiculous, almost as if they don't want you to complain or query anything... oh, wait.

Craptical Plastics have a Mk1 Mondeo buyers guide this month. I don’t know where they get their research from for these articles but they mentioned it has a rear subframe which is prone to rusting out. What a load of bollocks.

We were examined, x-rayed and sent home. All in an hour. Very pleased with the service. He  has tissue damage to his right elbow but other than that fine. He's in bed now sleeping it off. The bike needs a new front wheel. He does 10 miles a day on it and this was only it's 3rd trip. The lady that hit him was in tears and the police were excellent. It could have been a lot worse.

Always had a good experience (well as good as a hospital visit can be) at Rake Lane.

Yes it's the 1.6 Pez. Its a perfectly capable car, it just never entertains me or makes me smile in any way at all. I just find it so boring. It doesn't have a single quirk or feature, except for the fact you can lock the keys in the boot really easily (ask me how I found that one out).

Even some slightly* 'spirited' driving on holiday in Wales around the epic roads just didn't do anything for me. So many people say they're really good to drive so maybe I just don't like driving? ?

Oh yeah, also, look at that colour ?? This was the best it's ever looked, after a thorough wash, and it's still a crap colour. IMG_20180222_162706.thumb.jpg.3cd9888d8824b71cce529180a0e99f91.jpg

I quite like that colour, looks decent to me, but what do I know, I drve an MB.

Speaking of which: just took the dogs out (early to try and miss the impending rain) and parked with space both sides in a fairly huge and empty carpark.  I need the space to get sickly me and sickly dog out and then back in. So of course some total cocksocket parked right by the side f the car, passenger side so close he banged his door into mine when there is/was a whole load of empty spaces! It was so tight I had to reverse the car out of the spot so I could ope the passener door to get the dogs back in. What the fuck was the dopey twat thinking of?

I think its more the time it takes to get up to a speed where you can enjoy it. A perk? Maybe the heated fronts in the winter perhaps?

Sometimes you just can't get on with a car, had a few in my time, personally think its better the devil you know. Always fancy changing my fezzy work shed due to it being a 3 door and having kids in it occasionally but I know for the past 18 months its been looked after and had a little bit of work done plus the majors being replaced in last few years by previous. I sometimes think I'll just be buying a car that's got someone else's problems in it.

Get rid of it then & buy something more interesting. You'll not find a better series of links to cars for sale than on this site.

Let me know what you get.

Roffle it on here, I'll have one, I quite liked them when new and the 1.6 was the best* engine that wasn't an ST170

Have to say I like that! Very late model, good colour (tonic blue, I think it's called) and best engine/spec combo.

I have the same car but on an 03 plate. Has over double the mileage of yours and I love the thing. Only bought it as a stop-gap car for 12 months, that was over 7 years ago.

That should find an appreciate home very easily, I'd have thought. Roffle on here or try selling through some of the mk1 FB groups.
