My neighbours are officially utter cunts.

They can't seem to park their Fiesta in front of their terraced house properly, whereas I can comfortably park my Xantia in front of my (identical-sized) house. Hell, I could even get the LS400 in there easily.

They park their Fiesta so far back up the hill that it actually blocks their gate and encroaches on the frontage of my house, while they then leave enough room for the fucking Exxon Valdez in front of it (for no good reason, as the garden gate is where they parked the Fiesta). I have deliberately parked the Xantia with its front bumper just within my garden wall recently, to see if they would get the hint and maybe try parking more sensibly.

Their reaction, instead of just rolling their Fiesta down the hill a foot, is to have a go at me for 'making it difficult to get their child's buggy in the gate'

Seriously? I'm nowhere near your gate, that's the least of your fucking worries. You're blocking your garden gate with your own rubbish parking. The Xantia is going nowhere.

Having had years of this shit as a student, parking was top of my list when we were looking for a house. We can fit four on the front, five at a push, one big or two small in the garage and two across the front. There is also a parking bay opposite and it's the end of a cul de sac so can get another end on if needed. We have four cars (for two drivers ) and could not go back to street parking.

 

I feel your pain. Purchase a £20 car and leave it outside their house at night? It will get moved in a few days (longer if it's not blocking their drive) but will be fun until it does.

Just about thawed out now after a freezing drive back in the new 940. I'm not sure if the grump is me not checking under the bonnet before setting off or with the seller (who seemed really nice, refitted the boot mounted seats this morning) not at best not mentioning the heater didn't work or at worst by-passing the heater matrix and hiding this under a polishing cloth (which can't have been in the engine bay long as it looked brand new).

Need to move Dolly 1300 as it is at parent's garage and they are moving house on Dec 16th. It won't start, isn't getting any fuel up to the pump despite the pipe being seemingly clear, also the clutch hydraulic fluid has all escaped into the front footwell.

 

Parents are increasingly desperate for me to sell it and would rather I didn't work on it or spend any more money on it, they've got a quote for having it moved from their house on a flatbed to my place 13 miles away at the cost of £120. Problem being it'll then be non-running and unmovable and in a garage where I'm not allowed to work on it (storage use only) so it'll probably never leave. I planned to get it running and driving and just taking it to an MOT between my house and theirs, having it fail and then driving it home but time is running ever shorter.

I suspect they're just hoping I'll give up and sell it, they're quite happy with me buying something else, just not keeping that car for some reason. They'd much rather I bought some barn find project car that'll transpire to be even more fucked for reasons I entirely don't understand but are probably linked to the "Dolomites are BL rubbish" line of common knowledge and the fact they don't seem to grasp just how much classic values have jumped since I bought that car 4 years ago. £500-1500 no longer buys anything pre-1980 that's not going to absorb money like some sort of financial stability sponge.

 

I'm going over to look at it tomorrow, see if it needs a new fuel pump or can bodge in an electric one or something and check access for removing the clutch slave cylinder to replace the seals, I've heard they're a pain to get at. I may get away with a top up and bleed as the clutch fluid has been a "check and top-up weekly" thing ever since I bought the car... I've already spent £100 on a new starter motor and battery for the thing just trying to get it back to the state it was in before it came off the road a year ago. Shes an ungrateful shitbox...

I can't see how the fluid has got into the car as the slave sits on the passenger side of the box with the master half way down the bulkhead. Access is a doddle once you whip off the transmission tunnel (pics on my dolomite thread I think). My fuel pump died, new one sorted it no problem and took about five minutes to swap over but you could try a gravity fed bodge to get it running. I spent a lot of time on mine last year after buying it getting it spot on mechanically so know them pretty well now, if you are stuck on anything give me a shout.

I know how you feel- not long after I bought the 2cv in 1993 ( no breakdown recovery) I had to get towed home to wrexham from work in Llandudno by my dad in his BX TXD. In December! God it was cold.

 

Very annoyingly, it had only broken its fan assembly. Being so cold, i now know that it would have been fine for an hour if I'd have removed the belt and remains of the fan. I think I'd only owned it two months by then though, and all car stuff was a mystery.

I suppose it could if the iinner seal was knacked, still an easy swap though, probably quicker than the slave tbh. Fuel pump on the 1300 is two bolts and so easy to do it's not worth worrying about. I think I paid £12-15 on mine off eBay. A couple of hours would easily see both jobs done and a running car.

Bollocks, just realised that the daily Touran is overdue a cambelt as it's a 4 year, 80k interval and it was done nearly 5 years and 80k ago. 

Also means it's not had a brake fluid change in the same time, as I've just been doing filters and oil. Best get it up to the garage.

The only thing I think I'll need aid with is the clutch bleeding, I've a few names for that. The issue is me getting through the house and into the garage without being moaned at! I might just show up while they are out and work on it then. I don't see how I can make it worse, it won't start and has no clutch. Nothing I can do is going to render it less mobile, unless they threaten to have it moved, in which case I'll take a couple of wheels back home with me...

 

Once it runs and engages gear I can book it in for an MOT and drive it from their garage to there and then back to my garage with a to-do list in the form of an MOT fail sheet (If it actually passes and I've let it sit around for a year for no reason I'll be highly irritated!), getting it twixt my garage and my driveway could easily be done in manner which totally doesn't involve driving it a quarter mile down the road at 2am*.

 

I guess I shouldn't have dumped it in their garage for all this time but I've completely lost track of time. I'm damn sure I blinked and the entirety of summer passed while autumn simply didn't happen at all...
