Family snaps with your old cars in the background.

A photo my mum took a few years back at a garage not far from my old school, the lad sitting in the Karmann Ghia is me.

The Karmann Ghia was owned by a guy who worked at the garage at the time, I recently spotted it again on a walk around Melbourne:

Predictably obvious vehicle subject for me (obviously!)

Firstly is my aunt Tina, flooding her drawers by the side of my 2000E, some day in 2003.

Next is a scenario so incomprehensible that it was one of the only photographs taken by my family in the early 80s.

That’s my Dad, caught mid-strim, with his 1971 2000 GT 2dr begging to be stolen from him for the princely sum of £150, brightening the background. One rare day, 1981.

As i have just written in the YouTube thread, My mother died in Feb this year. I managed to get to the funeral and back just a few days before lockdown here in Spain. I am now going through some photos she had, mainly of her family. In this thread I will be adding a few images of that collection.

First one is My Nan, Grandad, my mother then me, sitting in front of Grandad's company car. A Ford Escort (sometimes known by it's higher spec version Esquire).

The next one is of Grandad, on his own, with presumably the same car.

Do you know what happened to this 2000E? The DVLA says the reg is on a silver Mercedes now.

Dad's  Morris 1800 beside our caravan. I'd have been about 10 or 11 when I took this  on my first camera, a little Boots 110 cartridge thing.

Not got many snaps of any of my old motors, I've been a bugger over the years about not taking any pictures which I'm a bit upset about really. Must try harder going forwards!

Here are a few from my parents archives of me as a nipper with family motors.

First up, me and dad with his Hunter.

Next up me washing Grandad's Landcrab.

Me and Nana with Dad's MK3 Cortina, what's the car in the background?

thumbnail_20200424_133737.jpg

Finally me and Nana and Grandad on Dad's boat next to his Audi 80.

The second picture next to the Fiat 124 is not a Cortina, could be a Consul (Granada)?

He did have a couple of MK3 Cortina's (one saloon and one estate) but I could be wrong on that picture. I will ask my Dad next time I see him.

It was definitely old Rupert the Bear with me though, I had the pants to match.

Update, yes you are spot on it was his 1973 Ford Consul (Granada). It was a 2.0 and he always wanted a 3.0 as they had in the Sweeney.  To be honest he had so many cars when I was growing up I lost track, he must have had 100 at least before he was 40. Small fry to some of you guys ?

One good thing to come out of The Pandemic; I've got ample time to dig around in the loft and scan some of the old photos I've found.

My old man when he worked on a farm and later for Maidstone Waterworks; both were taken in the early 1960s.

Is that a Trojan? The van, not my Dad

The van is a Commer, most likely powered by the same petrol engine as the Humber Hawk of the era but I think some had Perkins Diesel engines. These vans were the basis of Mister Softee ice cream vans at the time...

Is it a Monaco?

After posting the picture on a Riley forum and further conversations with my father we think it was a Continental Tourer, which is a new model to me.

Riley’s of this time are very stylish cars, I had a guess at the model but my main era of interest is the 70’s, thanks for the update and great picture.

Not exactly a family snap but this is my fleet in early 1993. In the foreground is DEY245X, an 1981 Audi 80GL, partially obscuring SOP116H, a 1969 Austin 1300GT. On the driveway are LSV 818 known as 'Little Bert', a 1958 Austin A35 2 door Deluxe and K528UFK, a1992 Rover Metro 1.1 that I bought new at the end of 1992.

I have no idea about what this car is. Can anyone help to identify it please?

It is another one from my late mothers collection of family. I have the first names of the folks in the photos and the location Peckham.

Again it is a scan/print of a photo, so the quality is not brilliant.

The Continental Touring saloon was based on the 12/4 series of chassis, £350.00 brand new in 1937.

Vauxhall Velox Grosvenor Estate, as shown in this link:  Edit: and also a tiny bit more info here: https://www.imcdb.org/v830742.html  Rear spats and side trim variations noted!48vauxhalletypeveloxgrosvenorswansongest

The use of saloon rear doors on the Citroen BX and Volvo 140/240-series estates was annoying enough, that's just madness!

I thought 'Vauxhall Velox' as soon as I saw Remspoor's photo but had to seek confirmation on the net because I have never seen one with that rear end treatment or indeed heard of the Grosvenor connection. A rare beast indeed, even when new.

That is a better idea then I had. The rear chrome spat is more than likely hidden by the woman's skirt.

I originally thought about a Austin Westminster A95. I was going on the double chrome strips. However, the A95 did have a different colour in between the chrome, to match the roof. This car does not. Plus the A95's C pillar  is completely different.

Not really an old photograph, but my dad came across an old Hi-8 scan from 1995, featuring his C-reg Montego Estate:

The yellow thing in the passenger seat is a Henry's Cat costume by the way, my dad is quite the character. He sold it to a local garage before heading overseas in 1995, and by the looks of it it hasn't been taxed since:
