The reason I can't find the logbook for the Tourer is that they never issued one. Back in March I only received the green slip from the seller, so had to apply for a logbook as well as tax it at the post office. The application is still stuck in their backlog, due to C****19

Nope! Because 'I should not be selling a vehicle without paperwork'.

I could have applied for a replacement for me and then changed keeper when I received it, but apparently it would take 6-8 weeks at least.

 

In fact it is a criminal offence to sell a car without a V5.  According to the dvla website page i read in 2005. 

And so it should be.

I've had that moment when selling cars where I discover the log book isn't in the binder of car stuff, despite every other scrap of paper ever for the car being there...
This is why I now have a spreadsheet on the computer (which is actually the maintenance log) which as soon as I get the V5C gets the document reference number noted down.  So given that's all you need to do a change of keeper through the online system in seconds not being able to find the original becomes less of a worry.

Don’t forget the new keepers bit too. Slightly different number for tax purposes.

The pump head on the filter housing in these sometimes splits causing air to sneak in and fuel to seem back and can give similar symptoms.

Well I made that harder than it should have been - by leaving everything attached at the bottom. Plus I used the wrong spring compressors, meaning they jammed against the inner body when lining everything up. Fucking Fuckity fuck fuck. 

Changed the fuel filter and a fuel hose. Now it won't start. It seems it isn't bleeding properly. 😭

Am I doing something wrong?

Still waiting for my 'not jubilee clips' to arrive so I can do the fuel pipes - will do that this weekend. 

Then I got carried away and did a few more of the plastic bits. It's not a bad looking car, even with its paintwork issues.

There isn't a non retrn valve on that bleed nipple so if it is open while pumping the primer you are just sucking the air back in that you have pumped out. Until there is fuel in the filter it will be a slow process of priming , opening the bleed nipple, closing and then priming again. A canister filter can be filled with fuel before fitting but your type can't so you need fuel in the filter before bleeding properly.

Have you got a self bleed brake kit ? That might work.

Back home now. I survived.

First impressions? It's not as shit as I'd expected. 120ish miles and I can't detect a misfire. I can detect a droning from a pulley somewhere in the engine and a wheel/suspension wobble at certain speeds. Oh and handbrake is really poor. 

Apart from that it's smooth to drive, seating position isn't horrid (after I'd raised the seat) and it pootles along nicely.

With enough cranking the Rover will prime itself if it's still not starting. Perhaps you've pinched a seal on the "sandwich" fuel filter.

I've always wondered if Corsa was an excellent and reliable car, or there were so many that there are loads of old ones now just because there were loads of Corsas in the first place?

Probably more the latter. They are perfectly capable cars, if a little bland. Not Toyota-like reliability of course, but competent.

Very unfashionable to even talk about a non-French small car on here, but these are robust little buses.

They're derided only because they're still ubiquitous.

Interiors on base models are utterly grim though, I presume the Elegance spec is not that.

Can't go wrong with it!

nowt wrong with a corsa c. better than a similar age renner or shitroen. almost vw like.

I drove a Corsa C when they were quite new and it seemed worse in a lot of ways than my shagged MK2 Polo. They do seem pretty reliable though and would maybe be better with a 4 pot engine. 

@TheDoctorwhat's happening with the Fenlander then?

The 4 pot 1.2 16v engine is way better than the 3 cyl 1.0, by a country mile. 

Nothing happening with the Fenlander, I have two insurance policies, so it just means I've got a shitter to run around in (I'm doing 70 miles per day at the moment) while I give it some attention. 

I need to figure out how to get the stupid thing started first of all.

It's hard work being out on a limb here, with nobody to call on, even for moral support. I know it's my own doing, as I push everyone away, but I feel so alone when it comes to cars. 

I might try to find a half decent mobile diesel mechanic to come round and help.

Absolutely nothing wrong with paying someone to do the work. It's nice to have some help but sometimes, if you have the means,  it's just as good to say you've put your hand in your pocket, coughed up and got things done in a fraction of the time.

I didn't realise your Corsa was a 4 cylinder, much smoother than the 3 banger that's in my B.

Please consider buying a Rover L series fuel filter and bypassing the crap "sandwich" filter to get it going. Fill it with a gear oil bottle or syringe or something like that. They are only £2.52 at ECP just now, tap in 1997 Land Rover Freelander.

I’m by no means a diesel mechanic 😂 but I had a similar priming problem with the S123 when I changed the fuel filters. What worked in the end was a mega amount of cranking - I drained the battery..., then ran it off a jump from another running car. Eventually I was graced with that beautiful acrid diesel smoke. 
Let me know if you want a hand in person, but my help usually only extends as far as turning a key, scratching my head and then leaving having probably made things worse.
