The Honda may live ? - Cookie's adventures in shiteing

While perusing the irrational hatred thread, it became apparent that a number of AS members, do not like people naming cars.

It got me thinking about why my fleet have names, because I never use to, before I met Mrs CSW.

Scenario - Just got in from work (pre covid days).

Fleet at time - 2 MG ZS180, 1 MGF, 1 5 series, 1 mk1 Zafira.

Mrs - The MG is playing up

Me - which one?

Mrs - The anthracite one

Me - Well thats narrowed it down to two

Mrs - The sporty one

Me - Nope, not helping

Mrs - The one with the bloody big spoiler on the boot

Me - Got it. Will go look

Mrs - This would be a lot easier if they had names

Me - Agreed

I name my cars, I don't give a fuck if anyone doesn't like it, it's their own problem not mine

I don't mind cars having names. Mine have names, but often get referred to by make rather than name.

The Vitara gets called Suzi. Imaginative, I know.

The Skoda is called Boris. I don't know why, other than it annoys Mrs Sham.

None of my Vehicles are named as such. Occasionally they are referred to by the characters of the number plate.

I had a Mercedes sprinter v—-BLG that was known as BLG and sometimes BILGE.

Fortunately my four are all different makes, so a name isn't required to identify an individual vehicle. :)

New battery fitted to the Mundano tonight.

No pics, because I forgot.

Right faff. MAF and airbox had to be removed, before the battery cover.

I'm not too keen on moderns lol

Fan control module has failed to arrive. Hopefully here tomorrow.

When I did, admittedly, limited research on the mundano, I thought it might have the older torque converter auto. Interwebby said the later powershite dsg was introduced in 2010.

Mine is a late 2009. It has the powershite box :(

Works well though, very smooth, if a tad whiny.

So now I get to play powershite roulette as well as cambelt roulette.

Living the dream :)

Are you keeping this in favour of the 75?

Jury out.

The mundano is just 'an car'.

The 75 makes me feel calm. A usable daily, but needs effort and time to improve it.

On Tuesday a fifth joins the fleet and I really need to be at three, for reasons I wont bore you with.

Decided my CRV is going. Which leaves either the mundano or 75 to leave.

Gonna try the mundano for a couple of weeks, once its MOT'd.

Then have to make a tough decision.

I had the chance of a 1.8 TCDi a while back. It had no MOT and it was likely far too expensive. That aside, I'd been in it before and I just couldn't.

My pal had an earlyish petrol MK3 though and I liked that.

Due to non functioning rad fan and a dodgy battery, I've not had the chance of a long drive.

It owes me very little.

I do like the R75. It feels special in a way the mundano doesn't.

But I do need to give the mundano a fair shake.

At the mo, heart says keep R75. Head says keep Mundano.

If I can get the Mundano mot'd by Weds, it will be used for a long weekend to Hexham, nr Newcastle. With a few weekend day trips, it will rack up at least 1k miles.

Then I will know what I think of it.

My fleet are called Shonky, (305 van) Big (coz it is) and Crusty ( the Cresta). Good honest shite names.

How big is a mk4 mondeo compared to Audrey!

20210815_140045.thumb.jpg.e5117552e8f8f7c6739bfb773c8be96e.jpg

20210815_130536.thumb.jpg.b4500637054848ae8aa1e23c6e4092fa.jpg

Today I dealt with the knackered rad fan control module.

Old module in place. Bit of a fiddle to get too.

20210815_131056.thumb.jpg.348fcdc9087ce5031ad7afdb80a500a6.jpg

New shiny knock off module for fitting.

20210815_131116.thumb.jpg.0b2db2f17baa05339a9e812ceea67f18.jpg

Old one out. One Phillips screw and two connectors.

20210815_131634.thumb.jpg.9bb18dbb46b49f5e9a2aa8fb81b5b308.jpg

New one in.

20210815_131807.thumb.jpg.5e590fc11807389225d914e58f369c2c.jpg

Then off for a drive to get her warmed up, to check fan. Plus checking if the bolster I bought will stop the back pain the seat has been giving me.

20210815_132920.thumb.jpg.bda571cc070b3808196ffd25cd3914f8.jpg

Well the bolster seems to have worked :)

The fan runs and then stops. Although it does move slightly every few seconds with ignition off. Hoping its something to do with canbus.

Any ideas folks?

Blimey, stick the Xedos behind Audrey and you will see how much a 4 door family saloon has grown since the 90s 😬

So after checking on the FB mondeo forum, I was told the fan should not be moving.

So went up to car and checked. Movement has stopped. No idea why. Will call it a win anyway.

While there, I had the radio out to get serial number, so I could get the code.

20210815_175840.thumb.jpg.71f55eb38347d01e96e228fff9e49b20.jpg

Result. This was clearly a replacement unit and some kind soul had written the code on it :)

So now, I have tunes.

MOT tomorrow

So Norman, as @andyberg has christened her, passed her MOT.

3 advisories, only one of which needs attention.

Not bad for a scrap price car, well purchased.

Never seen a mk3 saloon looks quite nice. Seems a common colour for Mondeos. Good purchase

A bug has joined the fleet.

Big thanks to @Six-cylinder for allowing me to purchase. Thanks also to @Inspector Morose and @worldofceri for getting it here.

Present for Mrs CSW. Shes not driven it yet, cause she had a wine after work, as can be seen from the wollard shot.

Alarm and central locking seem to be a bit 'confused' at the moment, so she is parked outside someone else's house :)

Battery was low, so possibly just needs a run to get some juice in her.

Mrs CSW seems happy.

Lol

No. She won't ever get rid of her truck.

She does want to take the bug to work tomorrow, but when you unlock it, alarm stays on. Takes a few attempts to get in it. Same happens when trying to lock it.

I've advised the CRV is best bet, till I've had a chance to look into it.

Need to give it a run, to get some juice in battery, which may solve the issue.

Great purchase, these look lovely (and seem to be quite rare) in black. Is that third forum owner after @NorfolkNWeigh and mr/Mrs 6c?

I don't know who had it before @NorfolkNWeigh

That's fine mate, I reckon it probably needs a good run to get the battery charged up as you said. Especially if it's been sat for a few weeks.
