Picasso restoration.......a tale of idiocy and citroen fun

As you all may know, i own a beautiful 2005 picasso that was used and abused by my grandparents for the past 8 years.

Now this is my thread dedicated to the restoration of this fine automobile.

20190920_155139.thumb.jpg.6d0a80ebf67127cdb695161d93cbffb7.jpg

i mean look at the way the wheel trims glisten in the sun.........it's almost pornographic.

So in short you probably already know most of the stuff i have done to this fine machine, however there is still a lot left to do.

The next thing is to fit genuine citroen mud flaps and restore the slight scratching on those fine wheel trims, i have noticed one of them is becoming pretty flat from sun exposure which is a massive shame.

So in short spending way more than the car is worth because i'm weird and what people would call "good cars" don't interest me at all

Posted

A good car is one that goes.  If you have some attachment to it, so much the better!  Good luck!

Posted

Thank you, sure has been a lot of fun so far but i'm honestly surprised everything still works on a car which has such a bad reputation

Posted

The bad reputation is unfair - most of them bought by a certain type who think maintainence is not a requirement.

Looks great and so, more power to your elbow :)  The lady round the corner has a Pug 306 which is fucked and she recognises she should scrap it but, sentimental attachment, so she won't. It is worth three fifths of fuck all but she loves it. You are not alone but your car looks worth the effort, hers doesn't!

I encourage you to keep it for all eternity.

An old giffer once told me that, 'you only lose money on cars when you sell them'.

Consequently, I currently have six of the bastards!

Yup that's why it's almost impossible to find a good one now......feel like mine is one of the very few with a decent service history and good tyres.

Oh trust me it's a keeper, I do have a strong urge for a rover 800 fastback (yeah i'm only 20 too so as you can tell i am the opposite of cool)

My parents keep trying to talk me into getting a brand new car but there is almost nothing apart from a peugeot 508 that interests me

100% agree. Forget all that crap about lateral G, 0-60 times and alleged prestige, if it works fine, doesn't cost a fortune to run and seeing it makes you smile, it's a keeper.

Indeed! it's quirky, comfortable, has wheel trims and diesel so literally perfect................lets not forget the digital dash

They are honestly one of the most underrated cars out there especially in the 2.0 HDi form

There is nothing... Absolutely nothing un-cool about an 800. You take that back and mean it!

Good luck with your picasso, they do what they say on the tin as mentioned, it's the hands that they fall into that gives them their reputation, it's almost as bad as the zafira or the meriva if you only have 3 kidz.

I used to drive and work on all variants and conditions of these many times a day and can claim fame to the reason for the development of the anti roll bar shim bodge modification.

An 800 is one of the coolest cars you can get, especially pre facelift.....i plan on owning one in th near as possible future.

I swear every zafira has bald tyres and a knocking engine

Posted

The Picasso is a great car which is why a few years ago I posted the opinion that they are the Morris Minor of the future (I believe someone now has that as their Strap line thing at the bottom of all their posts.

I look forward to reading your exploits with this one.

My mum has owned a Picasso since new in 2007 and its been an excellent car. No intentions of replacing it any time soon. It has the 1.6 diesel that produces a dizzying 79bhp but its great on long runs to and from airports. Very comfortable seats too!

Yeah I bloody love the Xsara Picasso

rover 800 will only be cool 14 work days after Lord Sterling gets rid of his last one at a huge negative profit! ?

The picasso that my lady friend has is being good. So far 100% reliable, seriously easy on fuel, and very comfortable. Good cars.

I'm not arsed about Picasso's as such. But I'm arsed about this one, it has a story. Any car with a story, or a car that the owner cares about and hangs on to despite being old/worthless/uncool (delete as f'ing appropriate) matter to me.

Good work, long may it continue to pound the Queen's highways as mobile middle finger to modern consumerism ?

My thoughts exactly. My interest in this isn't because of the car, but the sentiments behind it. Keep up the good work!

Actually want to do that to my mum's one. It really matches the 79bhp diesel's performance

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm seriously considering contacting the first owner to see if they have any pictures so i can build a story on the car.

It's a damn lot better than almost all the other ones on the roads, it has a long story to it, lots of road trips and memories.

I know it's almost completely worthless but i don't care i love it

My folks and my sister have had Picassos for ever. Never have any of them let them down, except when my sister drove hers into deep flood water

and killed the engine. Not the cars fault. Somehow she got the local council to pay for a new engine because the flood wasn't signposted.

I still say she was a numpty for driving through flood water.

Anyway, I've driven a few and I think they're ok, comfortable, practical, drive ok and economical. Everything an Autoshite car should be.

Styling* is personal taste but in a world of Cashcows and Jukes , they're not that bad :)

Posted

I like to think of them as one of my favourite cars of all time, i've basically been around them all my life.

They have some of the finest wheel trims out there too

So today we had another headlight bulb blow......much excitement.

sadly didn't get any pics as halfrauds car park and chavs.........really didn't want my phone stolen.

Surprisingly easy for a "modern" but the rubber cover is a massive pain.

Now time to try and fix the engine cover

3 of the mounts attched just fine which was surprising as it has been a few years since the engine cover has been on but off to a good start!

20191104_135120.thumb.jpg.ad5df80f660dddccae2c69f496cd9cd2.jpg

Ah so that's why the last mount won't screw in, looks like the old one was loose and woobled around and wrecked the thread.......fuck.

20191104_135201.thumb.jpg.35e221f2bc7740b9d897d7515e29343a.jpg

Oh yes! this looks absolutely unsuitable for this job......perfect!

20191104_135759.thumb.jpg.653b4cc009add54ede1f892dc1c61471.jpg

hmmmmm yes that should hold it

SUCCESS!! for now at least i have absolutely no doubts that it will fall out and start rubbing on the bleed nipple for the cooling system but hey looks better now.

Mine is missing a cover too...not as clean as yours either..

but mine is an Exclusive 90Bhp Dizzel...121k miles on an 04 so not too bad... engine looks like its been dredged up from somewhere ungodly, but is smooth and doesnt smoke either..

Whole car needs a damn good valet - if it ever stops raining.. It had £3 of Asda's finest jet wash today, so it looks clean-er...

Mine is just missing the undertray which i'm going to sort out shortly, i'm only on 91,500k so barely run in, the engine is clean apart from a leaking rocker cover gasket but i don't care enough to do anything about it. Never burns a drop of oil between changes (changed every 5k)

oh i got mega excited seeing a suzuki balno saloon today. However i must say a gold or light blue pre facelift 800 fastback (ideally an 820) with a cream interior would be amazing.
