Me and my Interceptor

Found this photo up my mothers. It's around 1996.

Shows me and my series 3G Interceptor. 6.3 V8.

Wish I had kept it-but marriage and new house got in the way.

Amazing motor in 1972 I worked after school at a local garage as a petrol pump attendant, down sarf and a guy used to come in from "up north lad" he had a primrose yellow one of these , with if I remember tinted glass, as a gobsmacked 16 year old I my lasting memory is of being able to see my reflection in the bottom of the fuel tank as I stuck my nozzel in......

Interceptors are just gorgeous, absolutely stunning.

looks like your old one has just had a fresh MOT, and is now silver.

Much respect. An Interceptor is in my top 10 cars to own. Is 'yours' still on the road?

Just been MOT'd a couple of weeks ago, so yes.

I like Interceptors. Saw a brown one some time ago in a petrol station, cracking looking thing.

Crikey they must have heard you coming from the next county in that thing!

The petrol stations must have rubbed their hands with glee....

They did-especially as my brother had this at the same time.

Funnily enough I still see it about at shows. I first saw it about 10 years ago, Tony who bought it off the person I sold it to, had done loads of work to it. The suspension was totally shot as well as the camshaft. Mechanically it's now superb-last time I saw him-about 2 years ago-he was going to start on the body. I'll see if I can find some photos of it as it now is.

Found a few more. These were taken by my father when I just bought it. You can see my p6 3500S in the background.

Just found these.

This was it at Tredegar Park Car Show in 2012. First time I had seen it in 12 years.

whilst the blue was nice, resale silver seems to suit it well

I think the blue looked nicer, but I do have a soft spot for blue cars.....

Lovely, and grand to see it still about! Must have been quite the ownership experience:)

These are up there with the Citroen SM as "big handsome basturt" cars - exceptionally pretty, but carry significant respect with them.

I imagine the original owner as a jovial chap, who'd have your kneecaps for overriders if you crossed him

Gorgeous car especially in that colour,  there was always a good showing  of them at the Sandwell Car Show (after all they were only made just down the road :) ) From the colour and the Middlesex registration I can imagine it was originally owned by some famous entertainer who had just finished the panto at the London Palladium and had now settled down to a summer season at Great Yarmouth (those were the days ;) )

Great looking cars. I think that shape has aged really well, when you think it came out in (I think) 1966 & compare it with things like E-Types & DB5's it looks far more modern.

I preferred the blue ;)

I agree, blue suited it better, although not sure about the body colour rear bumper.  That interior looks an amazing place to be.

I'd love to track and interview the first owners of cars like these, must have been some lifestyle they had to be able to spend a hunk of chunk like that in those days

The bumpers were both painted when I bought it. I think I paid £4250 for it including delivery. It was from a dealer in Oxford who had a barn full of them. I stripped both bumpers using “proper” Nitromers - the front one came up ok but the back was a bit dull.

Body wise it had more filler than Halfords- but was a nice drive, though not as nice as my brothers V12 XJS.

not tempted to get another?

Would love one-but the days of a four grand Interceptor are long gone. Half decent ones are at least £20000-may as well be a bloody million!

Don't think it ever got into double figures very often MPG wise.

My brother had a friend with one back in the 80s. I think he was about 22 at the time. Got it cheap as it wouldn’t go into top gear. I seem to remember it did 8mpg. Fantastic looking and sounding cars.

A few have been converted to programmable fuel injection, improving the fuel consumption.
