I love sites like this which take info (as good as it is) from DVLA and present it in an interesting way.

I started off looking at Streetwises,

"0.0063% of all UK vehicles are ROVER STREETWISE"

 

I expanded the search to look at Rover's generally

I then looked at most popular cars by decade which are still on the road:

Only had time for a quick look at the 60's list.

More MGCs exist than 60's Minis ? That is slightly mind blowing, as a kid Minis and ado16s ( we called them all 1100s) were everywhere, I only remember seeing 2 MGCs by the time I was 16.

I think thats just for "ROVER" Minis specifically, you can see Austin and Morris Minis higher up on the list

 

(keep in mind Mini was not a marque in its own right until 1969 IIRC )

 

also I think this site is just for cars that it thinks is currently still on the road, so I dont think it takes into account SORNed cars

My surprises are Land Rover Defender being in the 1980's list, which is impressive considering they weren't called a defender till 1990/1991, I presume it aggregates the data of Land Rover 110 and 90 ect... into the generic defender category, although it doesn't do the same for Land Rover and Land-Rover.

 

More interestingly the presence of Mazda Bongo on1990's list shows what an impact Grey imports can have, presumably they've been in the UK less time and are worth more than you're ravage 90's car, so more are on the road.

The most popular color is silver, with 35 on the road. Only 4 grey ones left (What mine is) and there is only 1 white one left. 

121 Petrol ones left, 5 LPG's and somehow 1 diesel...

 

And overall, 0.0056% of cars legally on the road are an LS400. (of all years)

Is this based on the DVLA data? That has been shown to be bollocks repeatedly sadly. One example I have found is that there is ony 1 205 GTi left on the road and even better there is a Volvo 740 convertible! So I would take all the numbers info with a pinch of salt.

Could be correct, I wouldn't be surprised if someone transplanted an oil-burner into an LS given their thirst. Bonus points if Indenor, Perkins Prima or VM 5-headed monster. Stranger things have happened - I remember finding the 3528cc Hyundai Stellar and thinking it had to be a DVLA error but now we all know the story of that one.

The fact they were not called Rover Minis until at least 1990 must mean that's the figure for all those " Free tax ringers" from a few years ago!

I wonder how much the change in mot exemption rules has changed all of this?

 

For example, my old H reg. beetle has recently reappeared as taxed on DVLA. I checked for it when DVLA first went on line and it was then something like 20 years out of tax so I presumed dead and recycled. (It was full of holes at ten years old)
