Re. Phaetons,I know a couple of people who use them for work and they swear by them. The VAG bits are relatively cheap ,but things like brakes are only shared with RS4/6's and Continental GT''s so not Lupo cheap.

I considered one a couple of years ago but bought the Chrysler instead, just been looking on Autotrader at them again, maybe now's the time before it's too late as my cars have to be less than 6 years old and nobody buys them new any more !

Carlton is already on my watch list. I think people cover number plates up because of OMG KLONE FEE-AR. Which is stupid. You can't cover your number plates as you drive down the road.

Next door neighbour, in South Shields about '61/62, had a purple/white two tone vang on the drive, daily.

His Dad, however, had this one [looks identical] in the garage and I was honoured to be allowed to 'peer' into the engine compartment when the old guy was at it.... totally mintolla.

The old guy did go out in it too!! [he never offered sweets or invited me to sit on his knee ]  :?

No, but if you've got yourself a stolen 2006 BMW 320i M Sport in blue you can pop on AutoTrader and search for 2006 BMW 320i M Sports in blue. Then you get a fake plate which perfectly matches the car and so looks legit to a basic numberplate check.

I have to say I tend to blank out my plates in adverts.  I've not been a victim of cloning, but I have been a victim of stolen plates and I know what a PITA it can be to persuade the powers that be that it wasn't in fact you who went past that speed camera at 65.

Why do people cover number plates up?

Why do a large percentage of people take the tax out and offer to sell it for extra monies?

Always boils my piss that one.

Surely a bit of rent in the window is a good selling point.

Flogged a car once and bloke negotiated a discount, some of which was based on him registering the car as "disabled" tax so he didnt want £195 of fresh tax disc. Fair enough I'll cash it in. BUT the he wanted me to lend him the disc to drive home with.

Fuck Right Off You Twunt.
