That Fiorino's a breaker - if one came up at that price though I might get one as the world's most stupid* first car.

Sure this has been posted before, possibly by me. Someone needs to buy it and do a resto thread for us all to laugh at.

This is the sort of crap I'd buy if I didn't have to work but due to already having plenty of needing weldage chod can only see it leading to a mental breakdown with a high possibility of suicide as things stand.

It is pretty difficult to buy a car from Italy as far as i can tell, there seems to be no procedure at all for a non-italian resident to buy one, thats not to say its impossible but its certainly the next level from buying one from France.

Posted

Would the issue with the Italian authorities be resolved by having an Italian friend buy the car for you, then put an export notice or something like that on the car so you can have the epic roadtrip home?

Posted

I was told it can be done but I would need to use the services of an Italian lawyer to handle the papers.  £200, IIRC

I believed it because I spotted a Torino-plated Beta Saloon for sale in Belgium, and during the emailed negotiations the accompanying 'transfer' papers were joined with stamped, headed paper from an Italian notary.  Didn't buy it though in the end so can't comment further

If it was easy, an Autobianchi A111 would be on my drive

Yeah if you buy the car as a going concern an italian notary has to validate the transfer of owner and there is no simple way for him to do that with a non-italian resident as the purchaser so it inevitably must require some persuasion and no doubt some low-level bribery. Its a lot simpler if the the seller declares the car scrapped/exported as he can do this himself, but that means you're asking the seller to 'scrap' a usable car which he might well not be prepared to do till he's got the full asking in his hand, plus it then means you have to drive across italy in a 'scrapped' car with no MOT, so you're at risk of having to explain WTF is going on to some italian traffic coppers. Thats probably the best option for shite buying though. if you can persuade an attractive lady to come along on the collecting mission with you (difficult I know) she can flutter her eyelids at the coppers and you'll almost certainly escape any hassle.

I do actually know an italian who is also a car buff, I shall ask him on the boards behalf

These are just some of the sensations that come when you take on an Alfasud project...

Let me help with the words...

This is a barking nighmare of a waste of time and money that will end up under a tarp until you are too poor/old/insane to care anymore.

Should on the offchance you complete it then this deathtrap on wheels will entertain friends and family alike right up to the point you incinerate yourself (if the location of the fuel filler cap is anything to go by).
