This has gone down hill faster than a fat kid in a fridge coming down Scafell Pike, but in fairness it'd hard to tell if the state of the interior now......is actually worse than when it was 'restored'...

Blimey, it was going on holiday with a 59 reg tow car so that's 15 years absolute minimum and probably a lot less.

That dash is a work of art. Light years ahead of what BL/Ford was producing.

I do think the 'yellow peril' era Japanese cars have aged really well. That Celica looks fantastic.

Japanese cars of that era were also more likely to start first time in comparison to a lot of British cars, e.g. MK 1 Ford Fiesta, Austin Metro.

Next door neighbour had a MK 1 Fiesta 950, which would never start first time. After a couple of years, he stuck an 1100 engine in it, which still had exactly the same issue! He kept it for about 15 years in the end, God knows why...

Appropriate* colour for funerals.

It is a British thing that you have to have black, vehicle and clothing. That is not a thing in Europe.  I understand the all in black social etiquette  it is slowing changing in the UK.

Odd is it not, The Fiesta is not a British built car.

I bought a brand new Fiesta 1.1L in 1982 and had exactly the same problems with starting. If there was any moisture in the air, it wouldn’t start. I resorted to keeping a kitchen roll in the car and wiping out every lead which normally did the trick.

It was the last car I had that didn’t have electronic ignition ( which I suspect comparable Japanese cars did have), and I’ve only had starting problems from knackered batteries since.

My neighbour would quite often spend half an hour trying to get his started. One of my Uncles had one with an automatic choke, which was impossible to start. He changed it to a manual choke, which wasn't much better...

'On a 4th gear run at Wilkinson Racing, this pulled from 20mph to 140mph '

A Boys' Brigade Centenary sticker, an old Glasgow number - must be an associate of my late father (maybe)

Fun fact - when we wuz at primary school we used to walk past a car with the number UCS XXX - my Grandad jokingly told us it belonged to Jimmy Reid of the UCS union fame.
We believed him for years
