I think I remember this car being sold on the Maestro/Montego forum for an absolute song. I think it belonged to a technical college and the students did stuff to it back in the day.

IIRC it sold quickly for about £600, then was immediately flipped for £3k. I remember thinking then it was a niche market. Perhaps seller has realised it's difficult to shift.

I might offer him what he paid for it.

Collection thread when?! 😄

Looks like an afterthought. Did rear fog lights become a legal requirement around that time?

The Escort Popular was generally a good guide to the absolute minimum equipment that could be fitted to a car and it first got a rear fog light in October 1979.

However I do have a January 1980 Triumph Spitfire brochure that doesn't mention or illustrate a fog light.

My 1972 BMW E3 had rear fog lights integrated into the light clusters.  Don't know if they had those from the start of production but I was quite surprised to see them.  The Volvo 164 which is the same age doesn't have them.

It's a shiter's shite; head over to the fur shale forum for a discount.

Wow, that’s twice as much as I paid for a six year old identical example in 1995.

Metro based "TT" with a self-sustaining ecosystem in the footwell. Lovely.

Do you think Audi saw one of these and thought we should make that ?

I had a 1978 Fiesta base, no reverse light, electric cooling fan permanently on, not thermostatically controlled and no side heater vents, that was basic

From the MOT manual.

Guessing some companies started earlier than others once hearing the legislation was incoming.

From what I've seen of similar Mercs with simialr sounding problems, someone will have fitted a 'cheap' non stop start battery and then something in the cars many ECU's will have shat itself. Used to work with a guy who had it happen so badly that even a decent auto sparks turned round to him and said 'sell the car'

In the case of the battery drain, you could always just get one of these cheap solar battery chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter. I got one with the SL500 I bought and it seems to do a great job keeping my E65 ready to start even after weeks of no action.
