Cheapish Saab 96 on Faecebook.  Needs bodywork but running and driving.

Bonus Bedford Midi next to it.

Yes, pics stolen from a French car and classic advert at £6000. Reported the scam.

Those turbo diesel CXs are a fantastic bit of kit - quickest diesel car on the road in their day.  That one doesn't seem overpriced either, even with the bits it needs doing.

People go on about the purity of the Mk1 with the stainless bumpers etc., but give me a late CX any day. Get it bought.

I bet doing an HG on one of these is an absolute dream. In fact I think Mercedes supplied an underbonnet butler with every E-class of this era.

Is that a carved-from-solid granite underbonnet valet like they supplied with the W123?

That CX reminds me that I forgot to post this up on here.

It was a few weeks back at The Motorist North Yorks.

I ran a turbo diesel 1 as my daily car from 2001 to 2006 and 111,000 to 174,000 miles. Rust got it in the end and I sold it to Roger Bradford from the cx centre, in px for a C5. Easily 50mpg. Sunroof was a major pain but the car never left me stranded.  The turbo 2 suffered from porous blocks, but at this age any left must be ok. The rust in the roof of this one isn’t great and sill welding could be huge. What killed ( several people,  incl Wolsey house motors,  have told me it’s being restored but I don’t think it’s happening )mine was rust in the longerons which then parted company from the subframe rear mounts.

Stan is THE person in the club to talk to. Sadly something happened and he left as CX columnist a few years back.   Back when I was running the cx DTR he talked me through troubleshooting what turned out to be a sticking relay for the cooling fans over the phone .
