Met Police had some - 1700 (Super?) in that shade of red plus some in  a sort of Royal Blue. W and X suffix, replaced P reg Hillman Hunters as unmarked runaround/general duties cars.
Ours could get up to an (indicated) 80 - 90mph or so on The Westway with much transmission noise and heat. They didn't seem to last as long as the Hunters for some reason.
Replaced by 1300cc Cavalier Automatics - now, that was livin' the life.

Talbot Alpine (base "LS" trim level)

Untitled.jpg.9fe45c931c742b1e85e886e43d78e638.jpg

"This is my amazing Talbot alpine , 1980 in white . its the 1.4 version with manual transmission . This car is in fantastic , drive every day condition . I doubt there is another with such a perfect , rust free body .Yes a  Talbot that is rust free  . it has an interesting history , i am informed that the original owner had it many years commuting from Jersey to Surrey to work in the city of  London . on his retirement he had the car body completely , stripped and restored , quality respray , ziebarted etc . I have no evidence of this but there are only 4 previous owners and the first two were father and son in law .so the story is verbal"

Classified ad price £2,850

That's chuffing marvellous down to having it's Département printed on the back.

It's registered with the DVLA as a Talbot though!

Very clean looking 35k mile (!) E38 728i for under 4k. Even in its plain-jane spec this is far from a bad buy at all. Considering its been for sale for a while the seller is probably flexible on the price, too. I'd jump on this was I not already owning a low miles one (which I wish was in this good shape).

My old man had one of those in the early 80s. Lovely comfortable car.

2003 Hyundai Sonata with 42,000 miles, £1,750. I think I once had a shirt that was the same pattern as that upholstery. Those seats look very inviting.

That is insane value. 12 month MOT and loads of work done to it. Shabby bodywork but with a bit of a polish that could be straight back on eBay tomorrow for double what the seller is asking.
