Surely you need an Amphicar to go with this.

Yes, I've read the advert and it has space for an outboard motor, but doesn't actually have one. And I assume you lose the chassis when you go watering but I love the idea of an Amphicar towing this along. And trying to reverse park.

Chassis is permanent fixture to best of my knowledge.

I think the tow bar hinges up and then it's rev up and eff off.

As an ex-Standard owner, I love 'em as much as the next bloke, but that's the first time I've seen a Standrive car described as:

highly desirable

Did that have some weird system using iron filings and electromagnets? Or was that the Routes group?

I think it's just a centrifugal clutch and some sort of torque converter, like a preselector, so it's 'neutral' at idle speeds and controlled by engine revs. Should be good in theory but I can't believe anything that complex built by half-cut men in Coventry smoking Woodbines and wearing shop-coats could actually function properly in the real world

Ooh, harsh. West Mids were master lockmakers, massive choice of engineers in Cov

I think it was the push-button transmission in rear engined Renaults of the ‘60s.  Bonkers

Easidrive! It used a 'magnetic powder' that could be troublesome. It was definitely available on the Minx and probably other Rootes products as well.

Slightly less sprightly than an early 60s badermatic saloon; a K6 call box, some restoration required.

These have always fascinated me since I saw one for sale a while back, like the 2 door Sierra in the UK, it has always been a bit of a unicorn, are there any 2 door, UK market Sierra 2.0iS's left?

Seems a missed opportunity to not have a 2 door SRi...

I was just about to post that ^ must be virtually unique in the UK now

That Cav is being sold by the ghost of deceased/discraced former Autoshite poster boy "Pogweasel" who sadly lost the use of his brain in a bizarre gardening accident several years ago. If you buy it, you'll get to meet a living (dead) legend.

I didn't know there was such a thing - thought UK market only got 1.3 and 1.6 MK1 3 doors in base and L flavours, while our continental cousins got MK1 and 2 3-doors in all sorts of specs. I remember seeing lots in Spain in 98, an early red MK2 GLS sticks in my mind as my dad had a similar 5 door at the time

Pretty much.  The three door in the UK came in 1.3, 1.6 and 2.3D base and 1.6 and 2.3D L.

This is going to bug me now, I am sure there was a period press photo I saw of a 2.0i S with RHD, but the internet is so big I can't possibly find it, is there a website where you can clearly see what was sold where?

There was a bloke down my road in Birmingham that had a 3 door beige 1.3 auto ghia Sierra.

Did he park it next to his diesel Maxi?

Best I've managed is searching for scans of the Ford Cars brochures. They seemed to be released and revised monthly in the late 70s and early 80s
