Grr, no. The 190 (project code W201) came out in 1983 and was a size smaller than the W123 (200-280E). The W124 (200-300E, later 500E) came out about 2 years later and replaced the W123.

The 190 and the W124 were the same generation, just different sizes. Think Cortina vs Granada, or 3-Series vs 5-series. They sold alongside each other until about 1993, by which time all cars looked identical and shit regardless of who made them.

The W201 became the C Class and the W124 became the E Class

Mouldy and rusty Series I Sov sold by an illiterate.  Has the shite 2.8 engine too.  Cheap though, and will be MOT exempt soon - just sayin' like.

That's the one I tried to buy a while back. CV joint is also a bit bished.

Still keen on it.

Lift from Aberdeen airport in a beige Mondeo still available. Maybe once the white stuff has melted a bit more though.

Haven't seen a ShittyRover for quite a while.

All the more reason to GIB, etc

I'm with spike60 on this one.  These are one of the few big-engined barges which work better as a manual than an auto.  I had a 3-litre Sportronic and it was pants - hopelessly undergeared and not particularly responsive.

How old was yours?  Alfa 166 used either an ZF unit (4spd) to 2002, then Aisin unit (5spd)

Odd that these same bought-in 'boxes worked ok in Volvos, Renaults, PSA, VAG, GM, Nissan, etc

Please for the love of God someone buy that supercharged diesel 626.

Check out the way the grille just seems to lead to a gaping big hole in the front
