Volcane didn't sell

Now relisted, with a new set of photos, same grubby lense.  Still can't spell the brand name.

99p start, doing well, an even assortment of Citroen lickers and plate traders probably

That is a little honey, how the hell has it survived and even managed to do 65k without turning to powder?

Posted

Mine is on 43k

It has had a bit of a powder problem but that's fixed now

I bet you'd get that for a set of good carbs off one of these.

I think that Alfa is of an age where it may have injection.

I think you're right.

I robbed tons of these for the carbs in my youth, the local scrappy used to be full of them, and he'd sell the pair for £50.00

I'd clean them up in a bucket of thinners, drill and tap the tops for K&N filters and flog them with the vacum anti pulse valve for £200+ on a VW forum.

Afraid not, carbs on these as it's a Mk2 (aka series 1.5).  Injection came in with the slanty front facelift Mk3 (aka series 2)

I ran an identical 1.7 Cloverleaf also Rosso Red too, as a daily (in the nineties) for 4 years

The six cylinders had a fibre timing  gear which regularly failed - was probably installed to quieten the engine but the tech was not up to it. Most I'd assume replaced with a metal one. These smaller engines may also suffer with this. Beautifully engineered car but a bit 'fussy and slow' but great for puttering about. A relative failure when on sale. All summed up in Roads to Oblivion - an excellent book on how it all began to go wrong with the UK motor industry in the 50's. Lord Nuffield's house - he owned Wolseley - is owned by the National Trust really worth a visit - he was a great guy and gave many millions to charity particularly medicine. A real engineer - he even had a workshop by his bedroom. Still there. Book:

Exhaust valves don't last long, roughly 20,000 miles. Sixes are OHC so no fibre timing gear - that's on the MO and they can strip their teeth and the engine just stops. The six would have ample power today I think.

Wow, Coupehatch is a bit special. Those shutlines aren’t that much worse than a factory Marina’s, and there’s only so much more lairy the handling could be made by chopping a big aperture in the body shell.

The towbar is a bold move, too.

Would chip in to a crowdfund.

Coupehatch is ace. I used to see it every year at Doncaster racecourse, when I used to go to the festival of BRM.

That CX belonged to a Scottish based member on here back in the day...can't remember the name, but I remember that registration number....
