It used to be the case that the emissions requirement was based on car or the engine, whichever was older.

Mot tests emissions as per the age of the engine. It is up to you to prove the age of your old engine in your recent car. Quite easy for a Pinto I'd imagine.

I checked this out a few weeks ago when doodling Watburg engine into Honda Insight.

On the subject of Transits, here's an unusual one - a Mk6 with a carb'd Pinto engine fitted. Wonder how that does come emissions time?

My local scrapyard had one of them with a V6 Essex or Cologne so it could run on the tank drainings. I think it was MOT exempt as it worked within a 60km radius dragging the knackers in.

I haven't done anything to engine or gearbox, both work as they should, and don't widdle on the floor.

 

Charming. I haven't been told to not do that since I was a toddler.

I know that somebody will tell me it's a personal taste thing, much like the kit car a couple of posts up, but what the fuck is the attraction of poorly airbrushed film or music 'homages' on big vans and trucks?

I dunno. I bet it doesn't appeal to many prospective buyers though, and doesn't increase its sale value either. How much do you think was spaffed to get all that kwality artwork done?

You're not allowed to call them "Chinese 6s" any more, it's racist.  They're called "ethical 6s" now.

Absolutely fine, if its from a pre '79 cortina or something it will just be a visual check, it goes on whichever is older the car or engine.

Personally I would have put a Zetec in but i guess they had a pinto handy.
