Can't recall a Mk2 'XL' before, always thought that they went to 'GL' after the Mk1.

Threw me too but I found an old 'Ford Cars' online and Ford did call the early Capri IIs L, XL, etc before changing to L, GL, and so on in mid 1975. The trigger to tidy things up may have been the launch of the Escort Mk 2 which used L, GL, and so forth rather than the Mk 1's  L, XL....

The M/N reg ones used the XL & GT badges which then became GL & S , MK1 Granada did at same time, MK3  cortina kept the same till the MK4 ( but very late ones used the new L badge),MK2 escort didn't  use the old titles at all nor did fiesta.

European oddities Inc taunus facelift retaining the GXL instead of becoming E, & a Mk5 shape XL in Austria I think it was. Same I think for MK1 Granada that didn't I think become a Ghia.

Cheers. I bet an 'M' reg Mk2 is a rare one, iirc there were a few Mk1 (or Mk1.5, or whatever they were called) about. Hoping the prices settle down, at some point I'd like to try and have a Mk2 Capri again and a Mk4 Cortina.

I keep thinking this sort of barried shit is mostly extinct. It brings a wee smile to my face when I see one still "in the wild".

No, I don't fucking want it.
