"Mega spec" project drive Rover 45. Silly low miles.

Salty price, but WANT level - 100/10

Steel wheels on a second-from-top spec. Oh MG Rover, what were you thinking?!

Luxurious* cockpit

(*plastic and PU vinyl may be used instead of walnut wood and leather)

It is almost like MG were producing scratchy plastic, tacky outdated Chinese tat BEFORE they were sold to China.

My dad's Cortina 1.6L estate was a Y reg. But it was a bulk buy company car. Also estate may live longer than saloon as I imagine Sierra hatch preceded the estate by 6-12 months

My dad's last cortina estate (beige mk4 series 80 - or mk5 as they are now known) was a Y reg, but he was made redundant, and the car was taken off him, so he bought a new beige Y reg Sierra estate with half his redundancy money.

I don't think his tears were the loss if the job, but more the loss of the Cortina.

From wiki. Later reg maddness

Quote

The last Cortina – a silver Crusader – rolled off the Dagenham production line on 22 July 1982 on the launch of the Sierra, though a few were still leaving the forecourt as late as 1987, with one final unregistered Cortina GL leaving a Derbyshire dealership in 2005.The last Cortina built in England remains in the Ford Heritage Centre in Dagenham, Essex, not far from the factory where it was assembled.

I remember seeing the red GL on ebay being sold by TC Harrison, I also recall seeing pictures on line of it being A framed to a show in Scotland by it’s new owner with a mk 4 towing the A frame.

I also saw the Silver Crusader at  Dagenham when I visited there in 2012, I also recall seeing it displayed at Swansea museum when I was a child in the early 1980’s I guess it would have been 1983/4.

I have a Y reg Crystal green 2.0 Crusader estate, the single colour cars had chrome bumpers and window trim, the two tone cars had black, but with colour coded grills.

Y reg was obviously very common, but there were several A reg Cortina’s which were less common. I read somewhere about radio station cars registered as late as C or D reg. I think on here.

2002 Rover 75 Club tourer V6 auto - £1,795 - East Sussex : https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/318382540207154

A member of the owners' club has been to see it and says:

Decent condition, original clam-shell back box, some body scrapes (nothing major), comfy seats, hardly any miles over the last two years, engine quiet apart from slight ticking/knocking top right.
Negative for me: headlining starting to droop. I lack the expertise (and maybe the interest) to replace a headlining. Belts have been done some time, but very few miles, ago.
Car based at a farm off the A21 near to Etchingham, East Sussex.
May be an image of car, outdoors and text that says "AD52LPV"

@Will on Syros Fancy another?

Isn't that a nice idea :-)  ...though my one is enough for me.  I can think of several people who want one.  This one's a bit ropey-looking.

Those estate's belonged to the BBC 1.6L I believe, y reg is as said pretty common.

I have pics of the red unregistered GL in the Sheffield TCH showroom in the mid 90's with circa 50 miles on the clock, it was part of their private collection along with a gen GT 40 reg TCH1 ( pos ex gulf lemans car) Cobra,a replica of Cuths works MK2 zephyr rally car, along with I was told( when enquiring about the cortina for an article in the club mag) that amongst other unregistered fords there was a 105e, MK1 escort ( STD even though they were an RS dealer) Corsair,MK3 escort, MK1 transit ( I think a swb pickup).

They stopped being a ford dealer in Sheffield during the 00's cars & commercial but still have a large JCB dealership just off M1J 35A, as well as atleast one ford one in Burton on Trent.
