The good thing is it's running on the original engine.

 

Failure to select reverse might be a vac solenoid flaw. Probably just needs a tweak on the adjustment screw.

That's the Renault lump found in lots of things. Mostly the 12 but also in 5's 4's Estafettes pretty much all Renaults from the 60's to the 80's. Volvo used it as well in the 340. A very common simple engine but also prone to overheating and blowing head gaskets.

Thanks, ok from what I've read the Italian built ones had a VW lump. So that's a 'proper' Romanian one?
