Possibly ex army after WW1. Rolls were used extensively including armoured cars as well as general transport and staff cars.

The local petrol station/fix it shop, on our estate [70's Leech built] had one.... I put my van up on it from time to time and was amazed at how the lift-deck could swing with no effort.... However the actual shop wasn't wide enough to rotate 360° 😕

I've been trying to get a picture of this for flipping ages. It's definitely used as a pick up, I've seen it with stuff in the bed
