+1 for the steel rims, I always do a little excite when I see one on steels.

What kind of MPG’s are you seeing?

I knew what was going to happen and I was still on tenderhooks waiting for the outcome of the key saga, kwolity JimBellPosting, would read again.

I'll tell you the truth mate.

I'm too feared to press it.

It's poor at the moment as the heater/demister requires the ICE engine to run so that's running a lot more than it would in warmer weather even at lower speeds when the EV should be sole running.

Over my ownership using pen and paper maths it's averaged 47.3mpg so far. I hope I can do better in spring.

Thanks man. As soon as I saw they existed I decided I must have some. Unfortunately the centre caps are so brittle that one has already snapped a bit. Not sure how long they'll last.

I have had a search and center caps for steel rims like yours look almost impossible to find even in the common 4x100 that my Hyundai has.

That makes me sad.

Thanks man. That's very kind. These ones are super specific with deep tabs that snap into the recesses in the wheel centre. They hold REALY firm, which causes them to crack when you have to remove them to nip the nuts up.

Would it be possible to 3d print new ones?

I suppose anything is possible. Definitely worth looking into further. I hadn't considered that as an option. Might have to do it as two pieces, but might well work.

And you can then specially make new ones to your taste with for example a cock on them or all Vauxhalls are shit or similar.

Can't believe Toyota didn't do it.

Top work on the keys, that kind of advanced level electronics / software/ witchcraft would give me the fear of both bricking an entire car and simultaneously being deleted from the grid and having to live like Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State.

There is absolutely nothing to report with the Prius, other than I bought a new cd to pop in the six disc dashboard changer* and had it professionally washed by eager industrious men from across the sea.

Cleaned up, the steel wheels really shine. BUT DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. LOOK AT THE PHONTOGRANPHS

Parking near a gymnasium is a coincidence. I was buying rice and chicken for medicinal purposes because my dog has diarrhea.

I now have prius desires.

They're really bland. They look ugly. They're greatly complex and yet bereft of any character.

There's probably some negatives too, but I can't think of any.

Well the turn of the century Hybrid has been aiding in my daily movements like it was a packet of medicinal fig rolls.

It's not been a pick of bother so far and deserves a bit of slight* improvement. Im  gonna give it further serving if it ever stops raining/warms up a bit. I'm not committed or motivated enough to be horizontal outside between the months of September and March.

Instead, I did a couple of quick things that could be achieved while standing up.

The car misted a bit in the wet so I checked my 1967 Almanac Of Car Home Maintenance, chapter 5, verse 2, which suggested changing the cabin filter.

To eBay! For a replacement that will definitely fit.

Toyotas being Toyotaey, the process required no tools and only about 4 minutes of your busy life.

We start in here. Move all your trip hop CDs or they'll fall on the floor.

Next up is a shipment hot in from the former eastern bloc. All the way from sunny Lithuania.

None of the breakers in the UK could even be bothered to respond to me so I just went worldwide and flew shit bits across the continent.

There are panels which go either side of the rear seatback and one side has a wee vent to keep the battery cool. They were missing whence I took pilotship of the car and I was worried that the dog might snag a toe-bean on a wire or pipe when hopping in or out so decision was made to make good.

Toe-beans for reference.

Car continues to be a boring conveyance for a boring man.

Current MPG average for my ownership is 49.2. Still hopeful to get a bit higher when it warms up into spring.

Well after 1500 trouble free miles, we have an issue.

Got most of the way to Twixfest today and the Prius dumped it's hybrid battery voltage and cut out when I pulled into a parking bay in Stanhope.

After visiting the local conveniences for a big long but thin panic poo, I went and try and restart it.

Screenshot_20250302-1401112.thumb.png.243e317c02d4e99dacb7ec39a00d8bb5.png

Well that's not good. Better check there's oil in it.

PXL_20250302_112224089.thumb.jpg.5fb61c6e80ff5ac546805abd31b6bcf7.jpg

There is.

Scanned for codes and got a hat trick.

Screenshot_20250302-122019.thumb.png.1b0aa5d918a99c1de9d6eb788ce482c0.png

Looks like one of the cells has gone bad and put the pack out of balance. So much for the professionally refurbished battery then.

It runs but the hybrid system shuts down and it runs the battery fan super high as a precaution (packs not getting hot though)

Screenshot_20250302-124041.thumb.png.b28e2e1037786734c27ec5f6a3340e7c.png

Voltage difference is clear. Anything over 0.10v is bad.

Not sure where to go from here. ALL MODRINS ARE SHIT.

Oh no. That could be a double disaster. Did the twixes not make it to twixfest?

There were two people bringing twixes. It's a failsafe contingency.

Super sad times man.

There are various outfits offering refurbished* prius batteries on FB for like £250-400, given the price I just assumed they stuck a better one in out of a scrapper.

Things like this make it sound within the capabilities of the DIYer or non-shit garage to swap a cell, and it seems like they're cheap enough on eBay:

https://www.reddit.com/r/prius/s/cr1AGTKLaO

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395657954915

Hope you can get it sorted man. The problem is we're at the real cutting edge of shitin' here with elderly Priuseses and electrics so it's not like there are too many people out there doing high voltage lithium danger DIY to copy off.

Yeah, you're echoing my own thoughts really.

I think I'm gonna have to buy something else in a panicky, shaking my fist at the sky king of fashion, then have a go at changing a cell, or the pack on the cheap.

I've got too much money in it to just bail it. And it's such a decent appliance when it's on a happy volt balance.

Sorry to hear of the problems but glad you will get it fixed. I’m very interested to learn what can be done to fix this sort of technology . I hope it’s not too ruinous financially.

Didn't @jonny69 do this with his insight not so long ago. That and a mates lad having a shop sort out his electric asbo bike battery is about all i know on the subject though gonna stick my neck out and say its definitely doable.
