Ah - I've found something that's similar to what I mean - but imagine it having a normal boot with the swivelling rear panels pivoting on a vertical plane outwards from the C pillar instead of on an essentially horizontal plane upwards from that central structure:

That BL Mini fit the bill really, but you want bloody moon on a stick!

Hehe, it is probably the best so far :-)

I'll post this here but it's the same as I said in the news 24 bit.

Exhaust fell off hit the floor. No damage seen but now it won't line up with the new mounts.

It's about 4 inch too far forward with no slack. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Do you think it might have fallen off because that hanger had never been attached?

Both were broken like they were attached and all the metal work is straight :-(

Edit:

This pic is from under the car when they broke. Look at the damage in the back one. It looks like it's always been on at an angle.

How do these wheels come off? Unscrew that big cap thing to reveal wheel nuts underneath, or a case of getting a screwdriver in what looks like a little slot at '2.30' and prise whole centre off?

How about this ?

Apparently there is a bit of storage at the sides but it is mostly engine.

One of my favourite cars and I love the utterly ridiculous rear openings that allow for hardly any access to the engine despite their size. Why does no one do crazy stuff like that anymore?

Question for any BMW geeks out there: can anybody tell me what flavour of locking wheel nut key I need to undo this?

post-190-0-12626700-1543754247_thumb.jpg

It's off the Rover 75 but is a BMW fitment.  It looks to me like it could be an 051 but then I look at other patterns and think it could be those as well.  The locking wheel nut key which came with the car isn't even close - helpfully* that doesn't have a number on it.

The alternative is to buy a complete set of keys - 45 quid on the slow boat from China, so not the end of the world but an expense I'd rather avoid if I can.

Not much help Wuv, but when I phoned my local part-worn tyre place the other week to ask about removing locking nuts, he said he should* be able to do it and usually just asked for a tenner.

Then buy 4x standard bolts.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but when was Autoshite created? Before the videos of Mr. DW I had no idea of the existence of this marvelous place, so I don't really know anything of it's history.

When was the last time you saw a car on four house bricks as some ---t had nicked the wheels?. Yep, that's what I thought.

Actually not having locking wheel nuts doesn't half confuse some tyre fitters ..

Mcguard nuts. Piece of piss to remove with a reverse thread 1/2 socket and a windy gun.

How long do locking wheel nuts delay thieves by? I'm going to guess that it's approximately not at all.

Mcguard nuts. Piece of piss to remove with a reverse thread 1/2 socket and a windy gun.

I've got a set of those sockets but they only go up to 19mm, which is slightly too small - next size up seems to be 21mm but I'm concerned that'll be too big as a "normal" 20mm 12-point socket slips straight over the bolt.

I'm replacing the engine on a 2004 Peugeot Partner van. Im ditching the hateful.DW8 and putting a 1.9XUD in it.

On the exhaust manifold there is this pointless looking thing bolted on.attachicon.gifIMG_20181128_150426.jpg

What is the point of it? I've seen it on quite a few cars but never really questioned it

It's some kind of resonator. The one on my 305 had a hole in it so I fitted a flat plate in its place, with no apparent ill effects.

That sounds logical. I cut it open and nothing was insidepost-19511-0-15847300-1543846596_thumb.jpg

So I have blanked it off as it was in the way of the coolant pipes on the van

There must be different types of those McGard wheel nuts - I've just been looking at one I removed from my V70 and it has a swivelly collar to prevent that type of attack.   It's outside diameter is 25mm and it's as hard as a coffin nail - a new, sharp chisel made little impression on one I had to remove by force and I had to use drill bits of increasing diameters to chop the head off it, which was a tiresome job.

Despite the impressive hardening on the bolts, the keys are made of stupidly soft pot metal and as soon as you find a tight one you are sunk.  That's not something I would much like to deal with at the side of the road, so I hereby award McGard nuts the certificate of shitness and certify them fit for the bin.

If you have the wheel nut code or even the remains of the nut key tool you can buy replacements.

The 19mm will do it. Be sure to get it square on to the nut so it gets a proper grip.
