Barnsley to Aberdeen and back.

Could be worse!

Well done Shandylegs- I'll miss seeing the old girl outside!  You've probably spent the best 16 quid of your life. Having known NV52 since Tayne brought her home 6 and a bit years ago, I can atest to the love, care, money and attention that car has had in his ownership.

We're it not for my multiple car ownership. I'd have just handed him a grand for it!

Now, even I want to see a collection thread, lol!

Thanks Mr Tayne.

A mere 357 miles each way. Just looking at train, plane, bus or road trip options - will be in contact shortly.....

Pretty pointless starting a new collection thread as:

i) everyone knows what I’m collecting

ii) Barnsley train station isn’t very photogenic

Anyway one leg down, 743 to go (think this going to be a late one!)

i ask myself why i didnt enter this given im in Tayneland every weekend, but have entered for a saab with a weeks test 500 miles away..Hmmm

Shandylegs is in the air and will likely land 10 mins early.

...and here. Think the pilot left half the undertray on the runway, but I made it (hate flying!)

Shandylegs has just left, he seems happy.

Shame I didn't know you were literally outside the door - would have come and said hello. Just missed you by minutes.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip home.

Would a full tank of petrol in a 330ci get him home?

I imagine the unstressed engine can do 30mpg on the motorway, so I guess it depends on tank size!

Posted

It tends to get refilled at 360miles or so when commuting, thats a 27-28mpg average.

On a long run, it will get into the 30s so he could make the 371 mile run home in one hit.

Just back. It possibly would have made it home on one tank. The A1 was closed for roadworks at a couple of different points and I threw a few quid in at a services just to make sure.

Thanks to Tayne for collecting me from the airport, saved me a lot of time and hassle. Unfortunately no handover pics pics, I was rushing and the couple I took are blurred.

The car is every bit as good as described. More tomorrow after I’ve had a play.......

Yes, but knackered today!

After dragging myself out of bed, positives:

- Mirrors are back in the correct body colour

- Kidney grills fully fixed in place

- The car is wearing some shiny new disks and rear pads

- Tayne kindly supplied me with some more alloy wheels. I* did a bit of tyre swapping and the car is wearing a matching set of alloys with legal tyres, albeit the rear tyres a slightly different profile and tyre fitters doing their best to remove the black powder coating from the rims grrrrr!!

- Although the interior was already good, the seats have been cleaned and treated and the drivers carpet cleaned.

Negatives:

- I have history with BMW rear disks. Suffice to say, upon pulling up at my local pizza place, I found I no longer have any handbrake. One to look at tomorrow. Hopefully a simple fix and the handbrake hasn’t pulled through the backplate as per 99% of E46s I seem to touch.

Just sat here reading through the service history that came with the car - All I can say is top marks to Tayne, although nothing serious has gone wrong, you seriously looked after it!

Final pictures when I’ve* washed and fettled the outside in the morning.

Car now fully done and looking rather good.

Don’t fully know if I’ve taken to it as yet. I’m used to the torque of a big Diesel engine and this feels somewhat linear, albeit fairly nippy.

My daily is going in for some paint so it’s needed for the next couple of weeks or so. If I’ve not bonded in that time, would there be any interest on here, or dare I say it a re-raffle at similar money (I’ll swallow the cost of repatriation from the Ovlovland).

Thanks...

Are you driving it like its a diesel?

Or have you used the right hand side of the revcounter?

Lovely car that, definitely up for numbers if you re-roffle it.

Last time I went to Barnsley (a week ago) I came back with a potentially fucked Rover R8. Bad memories of the place. And yes, your train station is an abomination.

Two randoms please.

If you aren't hitting the rev limiter on a weekly basis buy a fucking diesel.

Right, for some reason I’ve not really bonded with this. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, just not for me and I’m sick of it being parked outside the house doing nothing.

Since winning the auction it’s had a set of rear disk and pads and couple of new front tyres (Uniroyals to match the rears). Adding in collection costs, I’m now into this for a good few hundred quid (so much for £16 cars!)

Had it on eBay a couple of times for people to win and then not even bother to get in contact.

Appreciate it’s not the best time to be advertising a car for sale but any interest here at £1050?

Ooft, I like this but I have a Jag taking up my needless car spot at the moment. Looks a beauty
