Nah, look at this beauty! Three wheels, Indian, and could be had in light blue. It's like the Invacar's family-friendly exotic distant cousin!

Blimey, if you think getting Model 70 parts is a challenge, try rocking up at Halfords looking some bits for a Sipani Badal...

its the 198cc engine of that vehicle that is the most concerning thing, imagine that fully laden with a family of 5 or more...

Is the vin plate on a model 70 on the chassis or body  ?   Is it also stamped into the chassis  like a Land Rover ?

Don't think they are, think it's just riveted to the body, would make it easy to ring one if you had a stack of old photos and vehicle identity checkers. Reliant used the same practice though they are reputed to have had the vin stamped on the chassis, usually too rusty to see now.

im sorry to say @plasticvandan but its pretty clear that despite the fact you might of been involved with these vehicles closer to the times they where around in Period, most of the information you seem to have about them is false or untrue, I understand that you got a lot of your information from Julian Nowill and while he was a well intentioned person, who was one of the first to genuinely care about Invacars and the preservation of them, sadly his information about them and methods, where not so good, and it lead to many machines on False identifies, Q plates, and the Ministry tightening down their grip on machines

Many were stolen,I can provide you with copies of the invalid carriage registers newsletters c.2001-2 that encouraged people to liberate them from repair centres and which FS key was needed (they all used the same key) The scrap merchants were paid to cut them up,not to weigh them in to see what they could get.

it was because of Julians encouragement for people to actually steal cars as you mention above, that the Ministry clamped down and it lead to the extinction of some very rare Villiers machines, for example the Sole surviving 8ft tall drive-while-standing AC Acedes was explicitly scrapped rather then saved because of the way Julian was going on about things

thankfully as previously mentioned, Stuart Cyphus the successor to Julian, later patched up the ICR's relationship with the Ministry, and as mentioned later on, got a letter from the Ministry which stated that although they knew exactly which machines had been stolen under Julians time as head of the ICR, that they where no longer going to try and get them back, and that they dont care about any other machines which had survived the destruction order

Model 70's have a chassis stamped number, @busmansholiday can vouch for this if nothing else, as once I told him where to look he uncovered the chassis stamped number of MPH759P on my behalf

so I do kindly ask that you let me handle the technical Invacar questions :) as mentioned previously we dont need Old Fear Uncertainty and Doubt being spread here :) this is not the mid 2000's anymore!

In theory quite possibly safer, you’d have a helmet/gear on and not be stuck inside it. Combined with it being presumably a 50 or 100CC, so the top speed of that I imagine being what 30/40mph? Unlike the 70+ MPH of the model 70!

With all your computer wizardry,is it not possible for you to start your own forum/website dedicated to invalid carriages, from a purely reference point of view it would be much more useful than a 425 page smorgasbord of nonsense interspersed with the occasional photograph or eBay sighting.

Yes, I guess it would be piss easy for him. Like the forum for Hijets, too specialist for most. Dez is comfy, and welcomed here by the majority. I, for one, don't want him buggering off anywhere else..

Did any cool dude,  put chopper handlebars on a model 70 back in the 70's ? ?

how about one with what could only be described as Chopper Steering wheel! obviously designed for someone with short arm reach, and an example of the 12 inch steering wheel option offered (default was 15 inch, but 13.5 and 12 inch wheels where also offered)

theres been a few, I remember one amusing story of an approved repairer taking one for a test drive after servicing it, only to discover his big feet would not fit in the little shoes on the steering plate, the little lady who's car it was, put her feet in to drive it with, he said he had to effectively drive it with his toes!

its something I have always wondered about when it came to the Barret Midget, as the name implies, this was the Invalid Vehicle that was explictly designed for small people, and as such traditional sized people really dont fit inside!

406077777_626000536205777_4363400663679585942_n.jpg

so I have genuinely wondered how where they test driven by repair men?

Forward me your address and I'll send you my invalid carriage collection of paperwork, all issues of toilet blue, the conveyancer, internal Heywood paperwork, manuals, ministry catalogues and pictorial history of the invalid trike from 1976 and 1985,as I am clearly not qualified enough to own them. Was a nice interest to have for 30 years, but clearly they are wasted on me.

Not quite the same but I used to work at a Kart track, we had 2 sizes, junior and adult.  I didn't fit in the junior karts so had to drive them from the garage to the pit (via the circuit) sat on the top lip of the backrest.  I did fall off once in front of a decent crowd while taking the hairpin a bit quickly.

Quite a lot of cars with separate chassis have the ID plate on the bodyshell.  EG Lotus Elan, Citroen 2CV.  The chassis is treated as a replaceable subframe, and the ID remains with the body.  Usually.

So if I wanted to ring one all I'd need to do is to contact a naive enthusiast 'expert' who knew how the DVLA worked and convince him, probably very easily, to help me?

There did seem to be some shells, or maybe more than just shells, just off the A140 heading south towards Colchester when I last went that way a few years ago to pick a car up for one of my sons. Obviously I didn't stop so might be wrong but by the sound of it it might be worthwhile to head there again sometime, it was a scrapyard on your left as you head south but can't remember what it was near apart from it was after the sign that spans the road.

It's your neck of the woods isn't it @brandersnatch?

Maybe you could have a look next time you're out in your leather chaps?

Thanks. It sounds like a trip to the Badlands of Suffolk is probably worthwhile.

They were near some large industrial site with massive prefab buildings and loads of artics.
