XJ6 Sport - £550 North Bristol (Page 7)

I ended up with a JMA branded key from a high street place after they ruined a genuine Ford key I asked them to cut for my Focus. That didn't turn any of the locks, either. No idea if it would start the car as, obviously, it won't turn the ignition. Wonder if your key was done by the same outfit,

Not too much has happened apart from more motoring. Put another 70 or so miles on going down to Haynes Museum for this.

http://autoshite.com/topic/32908-haynes-motor-museum-breakfast-meet/

In for an oil change and inspection service at my local garage tomorrow. I'll get them to look at the wheel bearings and make sure there isn't anything untoward. If there is, it hasn't got any worse in the 850ish miles since collection.

Going to speak to my father-in-law about when and how long he wants this to figure out a date. Either way this will be a for sale thread very soon. Probably week after next.

I like the car but 5 cars stretches the finances a bit and stresses me out having something else to have sitting around costing money. Especially as those funds need to be focused on the 1100 and getting that back on the road asap as the clock is ticking.

I've had quite a few PM about when selling it too! I'll have to figure out who messaged in which order. Price TBC. I think when I last added everything up, it'll owe me around £400 to £500. So likely around that figure. Either way, it'll be a very cheap XJ6 with a long MOT that is very sorted.

Actual price depends what the garage find on it tomorrow. Naturally if there is anything of concern found, it'll be sorted or reported.

Reroffle?

Preference would not to. I've got nowhere off-road to store it, so it'll just be burning money sat there. Burning money like that doesn't lend itself to good inter-marital relations with my good wife! So quick sale is definitely preferred.

Just picked it up from my local garage from an oil change service. Also got them to do the fuel filter as no record in recent years of it being changed.

Nothing big untoward was found (no surprise really).

Faint knocking noise when driving along is very likely to be that missing centre exhaust mount. Corrosion on the sills aren't anywhere near enough to be an MOT failure. Just something to keep an eye on or ideally treat. Exhaust has a small hole. It does sound a bit fruity but certainly nowhere near loud enough to worry about. If it was, my wife would refuse to travel or even be near it!

Longer term I reckon it could do with an ATF oil and filter change. Unfortunately the garage I use couldn't get a replacement filter in without ordering, so I told them to leave it. Oil is still a decent looking colour, but I can't see any recent history of it being changed. If I remember correctly it's supposed to be changed every 30k. Not urgent by any means but would help smoothern shifting and mechanically it seems in such good condition, it'd be sad to neglect the car.

Currently she owes me £537.22. So I'll probably stick her up at £500 or near offer.

Simon, at least get your money back so the price should be £550 or above.

Also there is an oil filter in the boot near the spare, you probably were a bit tired and forgot I pointed that out :)

Yeah I forgot to tell the garage that it was there! Oh well the next owner can use it.

Actually is probably over £550 it owes me as I forgot to add in the new window switch & mirror control pack. But I rather sell it cheap for a quick, stress-free sale. If I count fuel into it, probably nearer £700. Currently reading 26.0mpg but before travelling 8 miles in 50 minutes today (Bristol rush hour FFS), it was reading 26.7mpg. Not been anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Numbers are from the dash read out though and I don't know if they're optimistic or pessimistic.

Just waiting on my FiL to decide if he wants it for a bit before I hit the for sale tag...

Iain (Split-pin) has the major wants for this as he dithered before I moved it on.

Dash MPG numbers were always pretty close to correct in my old Xj40.

One Jaguar for sale. Quite a few previous owners, a number of which from this forum.

Looks like this, except a bit dirtier because I can't be bothered to wash it. I usually stuff all my cars through the car wash, but I'll probably forget to retract the aerial and snap it off.

Good points:

- Long MOT (just under 12 months)

- Drove me back from Scotland to Bristol without a single hitch. I think I've done 850 miles since having it.

- Cheap even for a XJ6 which are cheap

- Just had an oil change service and fuel filter. Spark plugs and brake fluid done not too long ago by Fat_Pirate.

- I believe it has the cam sensor mod plate that adjusts the timing. Possibly why I've gotten indicated 26.4mpg, even with city driving. Did over 28mpg indicated motorway cruising

- Extremely comfortable. Got out after 9 hours on the road and did not ache.

- Interior is in first class condition

- Aftermarket DAB radio fitted. I usually don't like aftermarket radios but this one is alright. I believe VIBE speakers are in the door. Don't ask me how to use it, as I left it tuned to Absolute Radio 90s. Matched the era of the car and enjoyed the tunes.

- Loads of previous history with MOTs and service notes. Probably not FSH in paperwork though. Definitely seems that it's been looked after mechanically very well.

- 4 Kumho tyres that are only a year or two old. Loads of tread left on them.

- Very little rust. These things apparently rust like old Jags do. Some corrosion on the sills that my local garage found. Not anywhere near enough for an MOT failure. No rust that I can see on the top body.

- Interior has no discernable rattles. Mightly impressed, given its 22 years old.

- Low mileage for its age. 120k or so on the clock now.

All the bad things I can find:

- Air conditioning doesn't work. Looking through the history it looks like it hasn't for a long while.

- Dull thumping noise when driving at low speed. Don't hear it at speed or when music is on. Hasn't changed or got worse since I've owned it. My local garage who serviced reckoned it's because the centre mount is missing.

- Clock LCD broken. You can get it fixed for like 100quid. I just changed the Aftermarket radio display mode to show it's clock.

- Paintwork is good from 6 foot. Looks like it's had a respray at some point. I've seen worse, much worse though.

- Exhaust apparently has a hole. My local garage found it. Doesn't sound anywhere near loud enough for it to problem day-to-day though. Something that maybe an issue next MOT. That isn't for another 349 days though.

- Drivers door trim needs reattaching. The clips mostly look broken underneath. You probably could get away with sticking it on with Tiger Seal or silicone sealant if you feel especially bodgy.

Other things:

- Everyone says the performance is a bit low on the 3.2. However I found it not to be too much of an issue. Manages a-roads overtakes just fine. Feels like similar levels of performance to our 2010 A4 2.0TDi. I've not driven a 4.0 XJ6 though - I guess they're a whole different car.

- Probably could do with the ATF changing. Shifts fine but sometimes a bit on the hard side. But then it's a fully mechanical box and I'm comparing it to the electronically controlled auto boxes I've had before. I say it shifts hard, but it's nowhere near by any stretch at that 9-5 (now Hooli) was like! Put it another way, you can feel it changing sometimes, where as I expect autos to be completely unnoticeable in changing.

Fluid looks an alright red colour though.

- As some of you know on here, I'm very fussy on my cars. Yes this is 22 years old and so not perfect, but it still feels so solid and reliable. I don't have any hesitation in driving it.

I really could do with this going fairly quickly as the money would be extremely useful in getting my 1100 finished and the MGB MOT'd (plus any work that entails). Ideally not a roffle, as would like quicker than that. It's ready to go and taxed to get you home.

As I expected it to go to my FiL (he's driven it, so not overly bothered about having it for a bit now), I put fuel in. So currently sitting at just over 3/4 of a tank. Because of this, I would ideally like £550 or a near offer.

I'm in North Bristol. Easy access to the M4. Nearest train station is Bristol Parkway or Bristol Temple Meads - I can pickup from either. If you're feeling adventurous, Bristol Airport is close and has Ryan Air/easyJet/etc all landing there.

Value. Insane value.

Perhaps Split you could reduce your coupe to an absurd price too, thus allowing to buy at an absurd price. After all, you’d probably sell it for a tenner if you could buy the next one for a fiver. I don’t know anything about them tho; it might already be ridiculously cheap.

Those timing adjustment plates are meant to give them a lot more poke, so guess that's why it feels good to you.

Tried one of the spare keys and it doesn't even want to turn in the ignition. The cut looks alright but I guess it's not quite right. You can see the Ford influence thanks to it being a rubbish Tibbe key.

To be honest I think even if it did turn, it wouldn't work as it had no immobiliser chip in it.

I'm going to have to get another made as not having a working spare key on a car really erks me. I've never lost a key, but I can't guarantee that will be true forever.

Just got one cut in Timpson for my X350 Jag earlier today.  Not super cheap at £59 but a good job and includes the immobiliser chip.

Also I approve of Timpsons business and employment practises -

Have a bump...

And consider this economical...it's currently beating the average consumption of my MmmV6. Last tank was just under 24mpg... :-D

I paid about £1200 for this car about 2 years ago and thought I'd done OK!  It does indeed have the Andy Clamp (which cost me about £75 I think).  Set of tyres were at least £250.  In fact whoever buys this is literally stealing from me.

Would you allow someone else to manage a roffle? I reckon you'd sell out by tomorrow.

It's a really fantastic deal at this price given that more and more are just that bit too rusty. Even at £1000 it would be a good deal. This would roffle within a couple of hours. You know you want to, it's the tradition with this car!

I’d have a brace of tickets, 37 & 42 please!

I haven't even collected my roffle win yet, but I'll definitely take a random on this car, for the third time :D
