Hello everyone,

Self-identified Alfista and serial basket case purchaser here. Some of the people on here may know me from the different venues of the internet. People usually have problems remembering the cars they had for these, but I have no such issues - I've never sold a car 😄

I have, in no particular order:
 

2007 Alfa 159 1.9 16v

2003 Alfa 156 1.9 8v

1992 Alfa 155 1.8 TS 8v

1992 Mazda 626 2.0i

1976 VW Beetle 1200J

2003 Peugeot 307CC 2.0

2x Citroen BX Break - 1.7 and 1.9 diesel

No, they're not all driveable, let alone insured and registered, why? No, I don't own a huge estate and storing them is a PAIN. 😄

I have a number of classic cars that I have restored and am in the process of restoring and daily drive a 2007 Ford Fiesta known as 'The nailesta' because of its general rundown state and rusty bodywork.

I live in the homeland of Yugos, so whilst they are a highly endangered species, there are still some around, mostly in different states of disrepair. There's been a sort of Yugo renaissance for the last couple of years, with prices of parts soaring and prices of actually nice or special ones exploding.

They rust as bad as normal ones, probably even worse when the roof inevitably leaks, and they were treated as disposable, as any other Yugo, so there's next to none left. Whilst the front end is the same as a regular Yugo, there are a bunch of differences and cabrio-specific parts that can be only sourced from another one or what little Zastava had in stock when they closed the doors in '08 and sold off everything. They are commanding crazy prices when they crop up for what they are (upwards of 6-7k for one that needs work but can be driven), so I took a gamble on a really leggy one that was mostly complete in July last year. All the parts I bought for the first one and didn't go on the car ended up on a Cabrio, plus a bunch more that needed to be added to the list. I was really hoping it would be - get someone to sort out the mechanicals quickly, replace the leaking roof as the bodywork looked decent, and drive it to a vacation.  However. It was in a crash at some point and terribly repaired, and under the factory bodykit, floorboard reinforcements and carpets were shoddy repair work, bent structural parts, and rust. LOTS of rust.  Almost every panel on the car needs replacing, welding, patching, or some sort of re-fabrication. 

It's been sitting in a bodywork shop since December. It's priority 999 in the shop as there's so much work and they can't make next day money on it, so it's taking forever. So far, another completely rotten Cabrio shell was cut up for bits, another whole regular Yugo was used for bits, and we ordered every single available NOS panel for it. ETA? No one knows.

As for the regular one, it's sitting in front of the garage, interior partially disassembled for me to find time to deal with it to find it's way on the car priority list so I pay someone to work on it. Oh and I need to order all the parts that were ordered for it originally, again.

 

Oh, they are both 1.3, twin-barrel carb. Some 65HP when new.

I have absolutely no idea where to start though. Last year? Year before? BX #1? Alfas? Mazda? Golf? The story of registered* Saxo with bald summer tires that wasn’t driven for 2 years that has been driven back through some 30cm of snow? The story of BX with a working brake, singular, through Belgrade’s rush hour? 😄

Hi, I'm Tim. I have a Fiesta. 12 plate. Rubbish car. 3 cylinder non turbo, povvo spec. I'm here to live vicariously through all you lot.

In days gone by I had an R reg MX5 (MK1). I still weep on seeing MX5s in the wild, as mine long succumbed to the cursed tin worm. I now have kids, and despite the desire to get the wind through what little hair I have left, necessity dictates I need an estate. I thought estates were rubbish, til I had kids. Now I just think new cars are rubbish instead.

I too have an estate. Much better than hatchback, which in turn are more useful than saloons.

Hi I’m Sarah, I’m a professional lurker, and also Motorcyclist, so plenty of reasons to dislike me . Often seen hanging around Talbot, no I’m not crazy, my mother had me tested. Have been encouraged by said same and others to post and am doing so under protest, it goes against the lurker ideals.

I drive a BMW F700 GS, and am very much hoping that the eBay gods will grant me a BRG Triumph Spitfire in the near future that doesn’t require a second mortgage.  Okay so that was my post for the year :) hi hi

Hi all,

Intermittent lurker for a number of years here, drawn to a car forum which seemed to be largely free of the ‘baggage’ of some other popular forums (that I won’t name) where many members seem to be much less interested in cars than sneering at others.

Certainly I have long watched on in quiet admiration at the dedication of various members in giving a second lease of life to various old and unloved sheds in an increasingly ‘disposable’ society where inbuilt obsolesce seems to reign supreme.

I might have tried to register at one point, but I think there may have been an issue with the forum with prevented it going through, taking this as perhaps a sign from the internet gods I was resigned to lurking some more, finally felt the time might be right to try again and I seem to have been allowed to slip through the filter on this occasion, so here we are.

Must confess to not being particularly ‘hands on’, so wasn’t sure how much I would be able to offer in terms of relative worth, but am happy for opportunities to ‘geek out’ about random details on cars that surely no sane/normal person would have given a second thought, hopefully I might be able to provide the odd rambling which could be off interest to someone, maybe…

Hi Sarah, welcome to Autoshite... 

A friend has very recently acquired a brooklands ? or conifer ? green 1500 spitfire, with good spec., which I'm guessing he's planning on respraying and selling on for not silly money. Because, according to his good lady, he has too many GT6 and spitfire projects already.  He's a really good lad (in Norfolk) who I'll be seeing on Tuesday.., if you'd like me to get more information and photos of that car for you.?

Hi all! Im.. Ston.. Kev.. Yes another one.

I've been lurking for a while and have apparently never posted before.. so why now? - Pure jealousy really. Two of your lovely members have been talking about this place so here I am to see what all the fuss is about, and generally (hopefully) talk about cars and my previous history of.. mobile sheds. 

I have a.. dotted history of cars starting with a Ford Fiesta Mk1 (that I bought for £150 from an old college lecturer and never actually got to drive), then a donated/handed down Nissan Cherry (that I also never got to drive) as it sat on the driveway and slowly rotted itself away to become one with the floor. From there I had a Citroen Xantia (my friends will probably know more about what model it was than I do.. yeh I know, another 'im a driver' one)... A hand-me-down Pug 307 (I think it was) was given to me by family...  It was.. wonderfully unremarkable in every way imaginable. Oh it was also a write off before I got it! That.. ended its life in an equally unremarkable way.. in a field complete with sheep. Some time after that followed a lovely £600 Toyota Celica GT4, she was my favorite so far, quirks included.. A quick "Im never buying a French car again" discussion later, and I have another Citroen.. can't remember what the hell it was.. guys? That lasted a good number of years, before something went wrong and again it became another resident of the driveway. A friend's Toyota Corolla then stepped in but only lasted a couple of weeks before the 'lean years' made their first appearance.

Later a Motability car appeared in the shape of a Toyota CHR, petrol.. non-hybrid one. Loved it.. Brand new or almost.. Closed I'd get to a new car anyway. Unfortunately.. the reason for that coming.. later.. passed away and away went the car too. The 'lean years' returned and for five or so years there was no wheels for me. 

UNTIL TODAY (Today being the 28th June 2024) - Yeh I know that's not today, but.. I've been busy.. driving again!! 

I am now the proud owner of a Mazda 3! It's a 08 plate and has done around 63k when I bought it. It.. looks good and feels decent, (again, I am but just a driver), but I did have someone I trust check it over for me, and after five long years of the joys of 'The Bus' I am back! Feels really surreal at the moment, like a hire car that you know has to go back at the end of the week! Pics.. pics are good, people like pics.. right?

I am now the proud owner of a Mazda 3! It's a 08 plate and has done around 63k when I bought it. It.. looks good and feels decent, (again, I am but just a driver), but I did have someone I trust check it over for me, and after five long years of the joys of 'The Bus' I am back! Feels really surreal at the moment, like a hire car that you know has to go back at the end of the week! Pics.. pics are good, people like pics.. right? 

 

btw, now you've tempted us with pics, I hope to see an owners thread in the Autoshite section of the forum soon 😉

From there I had a Citroen Xantia (my friends will probably know more about what model it was than I do.. yeh I know, another 'im a driver' one)... A hand-me-down Pug 307 (I think it was) was given to me by family...  It was.. wonderfully unremarkable in every way imaginable. Oh it was also a write off before I got it! That.. ended its life in an equally unremarkable way.. in a field complete with sheep. Some time after that followed a lovely £600 Toyota Celica GT4, she was my favorite so far, quirks included.. A quick "Im never buying a French car again" discussion later, and I have another Citroen.. can't remember what the hell it was.. guys? That lasted a good number of years, before something went wrong and again it became another resident of the driveway. A friend's Toyota Corolla then stepped in but only lasted a couple of weeks before the 'lean years' made their first appearance.

Later a Motability car appeared in the shape of a Toyota CHR, petrol.. non-hybrid one. Loved it.. Brand new or almost.. Closed I'd get to a new car anyway. Unfortunately.. the reason for that coming.. later.. passed away and away went the car too. The 'lean years' returned and for five or so years there was no wheels for me. 

UNTIL TODAY (Today being the 28th June 2024) - Yeh I know that's not today, but.. I've been busy.. driving again!!

Hi, I'm Katy 👋 I had a few mildly shite cars in the US but I'm in the UK now, loserone has been helping me find a car. Currently limited to an automatic because I didn't feel like undoing twenty years of conditioning for more than which side of the road to drive on 🤷‍♀️

Hi all, long term lurker and another blue forum refugee here.

Serial Land Rover licker ( yes I know...) currently, well last 18 years, dailying a range rover classic with too many wheels.

Also don't do moderns, newest car here currently is an '86 escort MK3 cabrio.

Been watching others post with interest, although I struggle to understand @hairnet usually 😜

Do I need to get my coat?
