I'm really interested in this. I never looked at 605s too closely but it'll be an interesting comparison to my Safrane. Hurry up!

A T-reg? That's very late.

Looks like a nice purchase anyway; looking forward to seeing more of it on here.

Yeah, May '99, Im surprised they sold them until then but apparently they were available until September. 129hp Diesel?

Not to detract from the main subject in this thread but a quick question - is shitefest open to everyone? Could someone please send me a link again if poss?

Thanks

Yes, open to all. I might even attend myself!

Drop me a PM if you want instructions

Okay so I'm back. A fill up was an eye watering £91! Peugeot loved their massive fuel tanks back then didn't they?!

It's only used just under an eighth of a tank though, so not bad.

It drives well, no bumps or knocks. As ever with new cars there's a shiiit moment when you wonder if it will cook or if it will cool down. Thankfully this is the latter.

Gearbox seems to take longer than it should to change up to third but it's not anything terrible. Slow if not pushed but not as slow if you mash the pedal.

Weird mix of old switch gear and stuff inside. Definitely an old feeling car for 1999. I found the steering well weighted though, maybe on the heavier side but assured on the road enough to be mildly chuckable.

I shouted 'nice Sierra' at someone in Shepton Mallet and I don't think they appreciated it.

Superb purchase!  I can imagine few better long-distance cars than a diesel automatic 605.  As long as you're not in a tearing hurry obvs.

Nice motors them. I nearly bought one about 6 years ago, it was for sale on the blue, no piccies but the guy sound very genuine and had a love for pug diesels. It was only because I got very badly let down as in, drive to reading to drop a van off also all arranged through the blue via a very prominent member over there just to find the person got cold feet and refused to answer any of my calls despite the day before telling me how up for it he was.

Cost me £60 in fuel and the bridge fees for a van plus a day of my precious time wasted. In the defence of the guy arranging he acknowledged his mate was a bellend and even offered some renumeration from his own pocket but I never took it. He also contacted the pug seller on my behalf to back up the story. It was sold a week or so later. I wanted it for the very purpose you're using yours for but mine was a monthly jaunt.

110 bhp 2.1 TD. I don't think we got a 605 2.5 diesel here.

Looks great Brammy.

Wow, thats proper shite.

Yeah as mentioned it's not super quick. Good for crusing though, it gets much more responsive in top gear above 65. The handling really is good though.

Weird design trait, the indicators are next to the front fog lights.

Nice.

Are these basically an XM in a Peugeot frock ?

Without Vulcun blood on vs..

Just found the sales invoice for it when it was sold second hand.

Dealer had it up for £6495. This was when it was 5 years old and had covered 28k.

What was the list price new?

Pretty much aye, I think the platform went on to underpin the C5 and 407 with modernisation.

Brave to put £91 in it Bramz! Glad it seems ok though.

Yep. Thankfully it didn't die despite the insanely steep hills I blasted it up.

More photos soon.

T- very late, -wk- Coventry so probably registered by Ryton (company vehicle?) to help shift the remaining stock.

2.1 is THE best xud. I loved mine.

Oddly the person who bought it in 2004 traded in another WK plated Peugeot.

They got a whopping £300 for their 1993 405 STI.

The XUD11 is my fave too. It's a completely different beast to the smaller ones.

To be fair, until you floor the throttle the turbo does seem to take a back seat. Then it really kicks in... not a bad turn of pace given the weight.

Anyway more photos:

The taped up fog light does work, so I assume the glass has fallen out. What chance do I have of finding another?

Quite a nice rear, I guess. Absolutely cavernous boot. Not sure what happened to the plate...or how it didn't fail the MOT.

The interior, which has the exact same smell as my old 405 Exec. The rear seats are absurdly comfortable.

Front seat controls are a bit...odd. The back adjustment is a weird handle by the base, and the lumbar is adjusted with a lever. Odd they didn't spec it up with electric seats but did PSA even care about the 605 by this point? I see they used all the 405 switchgear they could too....

The seller was a nice enough guy who said he was selling as he couldn't get realistic insurance quotes. It wasn't that cheap for me but I have had worse.

Also, it has two blanking buttons on the dashboard. I have no idea what they could be, it does have heated seats.

I commuted daily from Coventry to Oxford in one of these every day for about 2 years.  It was a magnificent barge and I've never encountered such comfort since.  Great purchase good sir.

That looks to be one of your finer choices as a means of transport. Well played indeed.

That looks lovely but I cannot fathom how these were still on sale in 1999! They literally must have sold single figures to PSA staff

My Parker's Guide reckons just over £24k. It'd been that much since 1997. In 2003 they say dealer retail price would've been £4325.
