gm Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 ROFFLE TIME - see page three for info (but no tits) here's a handy link if you don't want to read all my shite from day one http://autoshite.com/topic/31924-tall-and-slim-but-a-bit-funny-looking-its-roffle-time-1111/?p=1622306 So yesterday, I went to have a look at a car A lucky black cat came to say hello as I left the house And I walked to the station Got on a train (remembering to buy a return ticket this time, just in case) Got off the train and waited for another one Got on the next train Got off said train and did a bit more walking (this just isn't the same when it's not 'live') And I met the seller, quite possibly the nicest person I've had the good fortune to buy a car off. The deal was done within ten minutes but I was still there almost an hour later chatting away. I didn't take a pic of her in case she though me weird Eventually, I got my arse in gear and sorted some day insurance and drove off with my new toy. I didn't stop for fuel so no pez pics but how about a car wash pic instead ? I've been idly looking at these for a while, this one appeared locally a few weeks back and no one had taken an interest - I wonder why ? It has been family owned for many years and is in suprisingly good condition - the mot history is one of the greenest I've seen The fails are only for lamps, I reckon this could be worth a gamble chaseracer, dome, Marm Toastsmith and 28 others 31
John F Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 That's a very sleek lil' black thing. ATCNBE. rml2345, DeeJay, Junkman and 1 other 4
3VOM Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I'm surprised these aren't in the AS fold already when you think about it. Quirky, annoying in some ways, cheap to run and awkward to fix.
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Allan the cat is a lovely wee fellow, he sometimes comes and says hello when I'm messing with cars So, first impressions of the a2 - suprisingly nippy and fun to drive (once I'd put some air in the tyres, it had been stood unused for a while), the little 1.4 turbodiesel has a pleasing note and should cope with my daily commute to Edinburgh and back. The interior is fairly light and spacious, it needs a good clean (autoshite beige fabric) but should come up with a bit of elbow grease. The seller did mention there is an intermittent fault with the abs light coming on but her brother, also an a2 owner, had made a repair following info he found on the a2 forums. I later discovered his repair* Doing a bit of research myself, this appears to be the standard bodge for a faulty brake pad wear sensor - I jiggled the pin and the warning lights have gone Cleon-Fonte, John F, Aston Martin and 3 others 6
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 There's also this duct hanging loose to the left of the engine bay, I've not figured out where it needs to go yet - any ideas out there ?
bezzabsa Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 always hankered after one of these...even with the funky 'grill' that isnt etc
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 needs a clean DVee8, Supernaut, Conrad D. Conelrad and 2 others 5
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 ah yes, the funky grill Pull the bonnet release cable and it hinges open The dipstick, oil and screenwash fillers are here Then you twist the two nobs to either side and you can do this Neat, but what exactly is wrong with using hinges ? You know, like every other car in the world ? Aston Martin, The Moog, Joey spud and 18 others 21
320touring Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 This should be mappable;) gm, Sheefag, The Moog and 1 other 4
Tickman Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I wouldn't be taking the bonnet off and putting it on the floor, I would stand on it, more than once. dome, Joey spud, D Spares & Tyres and 11 others 14
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 moved to a safer place, balanced on the boot of the mx5 Junkman, Ohdearme, Tickman and 1 other 4
Aston Martin Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 The slightest bump and it's written off, it is cool though.
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Brake light warning fixed* not the neatest job but better than the pin through the wire. All taped up and working well. Aston Martin, Lacquer Peel, Junkman and 1 other 4
vulgalour Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 These are one of a tiny handful of Audis I actually like, mainly because they've got some genuinely interesting engineering and quirks going on. The little maintenance hatch on the front is probably the weirdest thing on them, useful if you've mobility issues that make lifting a bonnet difficult, but other than that very much a case of what is point, it solves a problem that doesn't really exist for the majority of car owners. Still, they're interesting and while they do have that bland Audi exterior, the proportions stop them being a complete dullfest. Marm Toastsmith, uk_senator and Laseraligningfoofooflanges 3
Cleon-Fonte Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 The last of the proper Audis. Well bought, I must get round to owning one someday myself.
Cleon-Fonte Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Neat, but what exactly is wrong with using hinges ? You know, like every other car in the world ? Aerodynamics innit, the removable bonnet allows tighter panel gaps over its hinged equivalent and therefore marginally less drag. That's what Audi's engineers claimed anyway, which makes it possibly bollocks. barefoot, gm and uk_senator 3
Supernaut Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 That interior is epic! Could that duct be an alternator cooling duct? My E36 has one, I never knew they were a thing before. Also, my parents had a VW T25 when I was a kid, and I'm sure its rear number plate hinged down to access basic fluid fillers and the dipstick, or am I imagining things? djim 1
bezzabsa Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 first time i saw someone detatch the bonnet I thought he'd broke it!! LOL all ally too IIRC??? didn't they slap one in the London eye for the ads???https://youtu.be/Rqo0b6GEoao gm 1
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 not quite all aluminium, it would appear Junkman, Tickman, DeeJay and 2 others 5
dollywobbler Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Stupid split rear window aside, I quite like these. Have you put that delicious pantograph wiper on its fastest speed yet? Guaranteed to make the car ROCK! SiC 1
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 hmm, looks like it's not the first time someone has bodged the brakepad wear sensor more tape required here still, there's plenty of meat on the pads so I won't worry Junkman 1
Inspector Morose Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 1-59 plz. LightBulbFun, Stinkwheel, Dave_Q and 2 others 5
warninglight Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I'm not keen on VAG chod generally but I love these! I tried to get my girlfriend interested in them when she was looking for a car, but she went for an MGF and subsequently a Freelander instead.
cort16 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 We had 1.4 pez one and I nearly stood on ot knocked over the bonnet about 700 times.I liked it but mrc c didn’t due to a weird biting point and mushrooms growing on the bottoms of the doors. cpjitservices 1
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 1-59 plz.Give me a few months first Matts_Rusty_Bus and Inspector Morose 2
