Edd (Crack On) China's Garage Revival

Recommended Posts

Your favorite mechanic, Edd China from Wheeler Dealers, is back with what we hope will be a new program series. In Edd China’s Garage Revival, Edd will work with car owners, whose restoration projects have got the better of them, to get their plans back on track. In the pilot episode, Edd travels to Norway to get a Golf MK1 GTI back where it belongs - on the road.

Will have to give that a look...Always found that I had far more time for Ed than his counterpart.

...Granted, I was usually too busy wanting to strangle the editor/director for the non-stop chopping between scenes rather than staying in one spot for more than five seconds to spend more than five minutes watching the old show anyway.

Who did that previously?? Ahh, Mark Evans. I remember a bloke with a stack of Capri's.

7.5/10 for me.  The section on replacing the headlining was too long, the engine swap section too short. Drums to disc conversion was covered well.

Don’t think much of the paint job on his van.

It seems too high production values for youtube I dunno how he’s going to make money unless he has sponsors.

Glad to see it there though a lot of youtube car stuff is bollocks

I watched it and it wasn't bad really and any car stuff to watch is better than none.

Anyone got a link to the full thing please?

There you go Sir.

I think with a bit of work Edd would have himself a good show here. I was very eager to hate Wheeler Dealers when it came back with a new mechanic, but had to put my hands up and admit that they stepped up their game. Is it just me or does Edd seem a bit cheeky walking out to take the wheels away for another person powder coat them while he makes another bunch of people do the engine work on the Golf?

I thought it was pretty good viewing. 40 Minutes long but Discovery or whoever would pad that out to an hour on TV.

I wish they would do away with the staged "Hello" moments when turning up at the person's door, it's obviously not the first time they're meeting.

The brakes were covered in good detail. The technical sections are the best part of the programme and I think they could feature even more heavily with minimal filler before and after.

Yes, the staged moments grate with me too. I know he's hoping for a TV slot here, but I'd prefer it with a dose more reality and more of an internet vibe.

Still, quite watchable, until my laptop broke...

I think it was a little old feeling to be honest.  In someways car shows have moved on from the simple job focus on "iconic" cars. Some get more technical, some go for the heart strings, some for custom, some for adventures etc.

When WD was first on the competition was fairly limited - now that is quite a bland way to do things.

For me is was like seeing your favourite band and they utter the immortal lines " and this is from the new album" before playing something that is a pastiche of the awesome tracks they are known for.

But as Captain Jag said - any car show is better than no car show (unless it has Bernie bellowing at the camera)

The last 10 minutes it's as if the editor went... Fuck it, im off out with my mates. Seems really rushed.

I watch quite a few 'machine shop' utoobs.

Also specific 'Toyo tuning' ones... Septics/Latinos (plus some Scandinavian guy who seems to live in USA?)

Just watched a guy reclaim the plug hole in a v8 powered woodchipper. Also a good one getting 'famous' (like our Ka) broken plugs out of a Ford v8 truck...

This guy seems an OK feller! ;)

Call me mental, but I find it quite relaxing watching instructional mechanical videos on YouTube even if it's not a job I plan on doing or a car I plan on owning.

I sat one night and watched a load of this guy's videos of various jobs on Saxo/106s. No commentary, good camera work, lovely jubbly.

Makes you realise again though what Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital did in designing that car. It was a game changer. It's a cliche but if BMC/BL etc had stuck with the Italians maybe things would have turned out differently...sigh.

Just watched it, I'm going to give it an 8/10. Needed to spend more time on the engine installation and to cut the crap in the start with the "first meeting".

It definately has the potential to be a great show full of usefull information and tips.

The whole Youtube "Pilot" thing is obviously seeing if it has the potential to make it to telly, which I think it could do with a few adjustments.

All-in-all an excellent step in the right direction for Edd.

I liked the technical bits on these shows, I can relate to it.

Used to fast forward the boring 'iconic' car shit where mike starts wanking over a Golf Mk1. He loves everything he climbs in, he'd get in a Yugo 45, instead of saying 'yes its a bit cack actually' he starts with the usual shit about how he'd be buried in one if he half the chance.

Nah, man, they did the right thing.

Things should be stopped when they are at their pinnacle to avoid any shark jumpage.

They couldn't possibly have topped the Morris Ital.

They should have used the Italian designs they already paid for instead of letting Citroen copy them. The Pininfarina 1800 and 1100 were beautiful cars and could have been in production by 1970 instead of letting the old designs continue being built for several more years,to be then replaced by the 18-22 and the Allegro.

I haven't seen it yet,but most enthusiasts I know wouldn't have too much trouble hauling an engine out,but would freak at the thought of replacing a headlining.Including me.

I might give this a try, Wheeler Dealers lost some of its charm for me as the budgets and complexity of the cars increased to a level where you needed a fully kitted workshop with ramp and a spray booth on standby.  It was no longer the kind of work you could do at home with your Halfords trolley jack\axle stand set.  The best episodes were the early seasons, Ed piss canning the wings on a Capri and them looking totally shit  afterwards.  Hopefully this will be more back to basics.

Fair comment.  I just personally didn't find it entertaining.  However Edd did sort it out in his methodical calm way, however he left it to the owner and his mates to finish it (so they story goes)

But, isn't that really the point? He's not taking a wreck and turning it into a minter, but trying to get people enthused about their projects again. Unless he claimed he'd done all the work at the end. I've still not finished watching it...

Yes, fair comment again. I think I'd better stop digging a hole for myself on that point!

Anyway, it was a pilot that will get refined, no doubt.

I have a broken Mondeo he can get me enthused about....
