Chris Bangle was design director - others did the actual styling. The E39 was designed under him as was the Fiat Coupe.

Know which one I'd rather have, and it ain't silver, Bangleised and stuck on the back of a low loader.

Good for you.

True story, I actually very nearly snaffled this car myself.

It was literally a few miles away from me, I'll be interested to see how this one pans out ☺

And the Nissan micra's

Rust will have consumed them by then.

Mk1 Yaris's might still be going though.

Adrian van Hooydonk? He's not a patch on Pierre van Hooijdonk.

To be fair, I think most of the Bangle flame surface stuff - with the exception of the E65 which still looks awkward from every angle - has grown into itself and now looks pretty good.

They released several patches for Pierre Van Hooijdonk but eventually had to upgrade to full fat Patrick Kluivert.

I don’t count the E90/92 as a ‘Bangle’ Car - they had calmed down considerably by then, maybe courtesy of Mr Van Hooydonk. By the time the 2010 5 Series (I’ve lost knowledge of the model codes after about 2007 or so) had arrived normal classy/understated/tasteful/boring styling had returned.

I like the first Z4 and the E60 5 Series, the E65 7 Series is still gopping imho.

I might be a little late but: Holy crap, a Panama Brown E39, and that not even far from here! I'm almost inclined to pop over to have a look at this beauty in person!

I'm surprised to see this interior color on such an early E39 as well, definitely very rare, and quite desirable combination. Which makes the price you paid for it even more impressive, 523i or not. If you ever need any help with it, I have diagnostics software and the adapters for non OBD2 BMWs here.

Exactly this. I didn't much care for the E60 when it came out, but it's grown on me to a point where I now actually own one (albeit an E61) and it still gets the odd compliment from others.

The E65 was an aesthetic disaster compared to the sharp and well-proportioned E38, I'm glad to see normal service has resumed with the current 7.

I thought neeps were Swede?

Swede, whitish flesh.

Turnip, yellowish flesh.

Both should only be fed to animals as winter fodder and not to humans.

I had a really massive turnip once. I swapped it for a load of Haynes manuals.

Well, I thought to myself. That really WAS a turnip for the books.

This thread is channeling Hendry quite well.

Harry Fairbairn is the BMW dealer in Inverness which is a front for Arnold Clark. Can't have BMW customers buying cars from the same dealer brand as Peugeot or Renault customers.

For many years Inverness dealer was Calterdon - an independent agent and one of the smallest in the UK. Calum, Terry and Donny were the brothers that started it and derived the name.

Always had great service from them when I was in Inverness.

Bought a number of cars off them including UBL 44Y.

Shame the dealer belongs to AC now.......
