Thanks for the tip off - now purchased @ £9.99 for 5 litres of fully synthetic 5w30. My last oil change was with this (bought from Ebay) and I really rate it.

None in Gnome Bargains Bathgate either (sadface)

None in Bournemouth.

By the way, it isn't cheaper than ECP trade price for bulk.  More convenient though.

Plenty of 5W 30 0r 5W 40 in Blackwood-no good for any of my chod though.

Just got 10 litres for the Avensis. It's burning through it... It may have to go.

If it's burning through it with no ill effects, then surely it's better to run a car that is performing a continuous oil change rather than needing to be worked on? That's if it's proving to be reliable of course.

If yours is a MK2 Avensis then you’ll be fine for a while, then it ends up shagging the catalytic converter.

It’s the reason I rowed back from a MK2 to a MK1. Inferior mpg on petrol but superior mpg on oil - plus it was just simpler to live with.

5-40/10-40 will help slow it down a bit, but it’s an inherent design flaw with the VVTi engines sadly.

Yeah, knee jerk reaction.. Never had a car I've had to top up between services before, and I've had many Alfa's! It's doing 45mpg+, quiet and reliable. It's getting 10w40 now, so will see if it slows down the usage.

Barry Case, furryboots did ye get the huile in Fife?

Fuckall in central belt as far as I can see..

Cheers for the tip off!

Do tell more - both cars use the same grade and I like to do 6 monthly changes so bulk doesn't scare me

Was going to say that I'd not heard of Home Bargains and had no idea where my nearest one was.

Googled it - there's one about a mile from my house................  (exit stage right Mr.Aware). Ahem.

None in Dunfermine but this is offset by them selling fake Lucky Charms for £1.99

Actually Wilkos have got some cheap oil at the moment.  Castrol (I think - defo branded anyway) 15w40 semi-synth for £2 a litre.  They're selling some other car bits off cheap as well - own brand wiper blades for £1.25, and I picked up a full set of car mats for £1.75 and a pair of stick-on roller sun blinds for a quid.  Plus bicycle chains for 20p.

I just bought 7 litres of Shell Helix 10/40 from ECP for 22 quid, dunno how that compares though.

plenty in stock @ haverhill suffolk , got some to try in the focus

None in Merry Hill either, just checked. Woe is me.

Try Glaze Auto Parts -  5 litres of fully synthetic, Comma,  5w30 £21

No Unipart oil to be found in either of my local Home Bargains stores unfortunately. However several racists were browsing the aisles looking for cheap cider and massive ex valentines day teddy bears. Blackpool innit.

You can get it even cheaper off the unipart website

https://unipartautostore.com/ugcpros200-5l-unipart-pro-5w30-5l-synthetic-oil.html

I've just ordered 15 litres of fully synthetic which will do both cars with enough leftover for top ups.

£4.99 added on for postage but still not a bad price at all!

the Unipart one is confusing, or may just be me?

It stats part synthetic in title, fully synthetic in listing but only part synthetic in the 'more details' @ £8.95 I'd assume part synthetic. or have I missed something?

Yeah I wondered that, the invoice they mailed me said part synthetic too... Will see what arrives at the door.

If you are changing oil at half intervals what's the difference between using part and full synthetic?

From my poor understanding it's mainly about cold start and how long it takes to give full protection, and increased service intervals.

My CRV gets done every 12 months, minimum, or 12k.

No idea what the twingo would take?

I was only  concerned if the car had a turbo .. and I would put fully synthetic in , and the oil normally gets changed every 6 thousand or so anyway on the main car ,its raining this week end so it can wait ....

the banger has a constant replenishment system which also provides rust proofing to the underside ......
