What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Done with work till after Xmas, been a stressful couple of months - whose idea it was to have financial year end at the same time as calendar year end I'll never know...

Off for two weeks now following a week like no other at work. Hurrah!

I was coming back from visiting family, and it's a lovely quiet back road so I had a good blast and the engine management light turned its self off. Verdict = stop driving like a fanny.

Brilliant. An Italian tune up. Works wonders.

Saw a small boy getting out of his mum's car holding onto the door with all his strength to stop it hitting the car next to him, bless the little fella he's obviously been taught correctly.

I'd love to go there, but sadly never will 'cos I'm a flid.

^ This.

Looks fascinating. Its also interesting that despite all the nuclear accidents and what have you that nature has sort of triumphed and rather than being some baron wasteland, its pretty green again.

I've been asked on here on the odd occasion what Pripyat was like and if you want more than my standard "have you ever been to Dundee?" response I found this today.

Both the power plant and the steelyard are visible on the horizon and it does look lovely and green. Shame its not that habitable...

Good link - is it so much more lethal than living within the pollution zone of London? I mean - free housing, no neighbours to complain about your 60 cars in the back garden, food's cheap in Ukraine (best not to live off the land near Chernob) and so on. Stress levels low compared with sitting on the M25 and waiting for a 42 tonner to see you too late.

Are there any people living in the nuked zone?

Apparently its dumped at Florence airport.

Someone has checked online and it looks like its been there for a while:

I would LOVE to go and get this. Imagine the confusion when the person who left it there gets a letter from the DVLA when you apply for the logbook back in Blighty.

That happened many years ago to a schoolmates father, they had a new Mk2 Zephyr. But the animal was a tired circus elephant.

I'm up for this as part of an AS resuce response. Just make sure the airport don't want 8 years of parking fines!

A lot of airports will let you drop hire cars in the carparks. Hire a car here, drive there, obtain parking ticket, jump start Proton, pay 30 minutes parking, leave, tell hire car company where their car is.

This is genius! And it definitely needs an epic collection thread. I'd be all up for joining I but I'm as poor as a pikey with no metal

That's a genius idea but please hire the car off one of the big boys, The boss will be grumpy as fuck if I have to bugger off and fetch one of the Alto's back from Italy.

How do you claim ownership of an abandoned car? We'll ignore the illegally of driving an un-MoTed car from Florence to Dover for now.

Shirley an A-frame would be the obvious solution to getting it back.

Tis Midwinter, and I should really be round a bonfire, but I can't be arsed.

So I'll stay in, warm and dry and wish you all a felicitous Yule anyhow. May your wheels point in the right direction, and your spirits lift.

Took me most of the day to come up with that...

The Tesco opticians in Blackpool. My specs fell apart on Thursday whilst I was in Cornwall. Being Mr Mole and almost blind without 'em I stuck them back together with plasters. Rang Tesco and asked if they could repair them when I got home today. No problem, new frames waiting and lenses fitted at 3.45 today. No charge. Sweet.

I more meant arranging a one-way hire in the first place.... But on the other hand, do you fancy a holiday in Italy at all?

I have just bought a rebound 1817 copy of Cary's New Itinerary and a complete 1828 copy of Paterson's Roads in the original binding.  This makes me a very happy chap.
