CAPS LOCK BROKEN BOBBY?

Yup, modern lovers were Jonathan Richman's band. Wouldn't expect anyone to have heard of the rest, save for Eno and The Fall I guess most of it is pretty obscure...

Posted

I've never heard of most of them neither!

What's making me grin today is a phone call telling me that my 35 year old BMW has past it mot today without any advisorys!, i bet there's a lot of 3 year old cars that can't even boast of that!

Excellent work, Mr barrett! My top ten, using the same no artist duplication criterion:

Wire - I Am The Fly

Talking Heads - Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town

The Fall - How I Wrote Elastic Man

Univers Zero - Malaise

Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Sheriff of Hong Kong

Bartok - String Quartet No 4

Booker White - Aberdeen Mississippi Blues

Can - Peking O

Stars of the Lid - Piano Aquieu

Camper Van Beethoven - Take the Skinheads Bowling

Contents liable to change without notice etc.

Posted

Hey, I always thought that Take the skinheads bowling was by the Manics.

Anyway, that Van Beetohoven lot seem good, ta for introducing me to another good band!

Posted

Eggsellant choices!

As a Stars of the Lid fan, have you heard this Acid Mothers Temple track? (annoyingly split into two parts on youtube, it's pretty long)

Despite being the precurser to a very bad acid trip, it's still one of my favourites (ok, i've already completely changed my list... )

edit: just listened to it and they cut the last 5 minutes off, which is the best bit! try and download the track instead....

Hard to do a 'permanent' top ten as keep changing my mind but here's my current one:

Althea & Donna: 'Uptown Top Ranking'

Sugar Mynott: 'Good Thing Going'

Slaughter & The Dogs: 'Where Have All The Bootboys Gone?'

P.I.L: 'Rise'.

Sid Vicious: 'My Way'.

Snap: 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' (preferably 12" version). Greatest dance recored EVER.

The Exploited: 'Let's Start A War'.

Cockney Rejects: (either) 'War On The Terraces' or 'Here We Go Again'.

Keith and Tex: 'Stop That Train'. I've only recently 'found' this song and it's utterly fantastic.

The Smiths: 'Hand In Glove' (sung by Morrissy).

Posted

'uptown top rankin' is a massive tune!

ps- congrats to Trigger, here's to another year of non-weldy BMW love!

My work gear is getting made up as we speak ... with my name on 8)

Is it sad to say i am excited to be part of a company ?

My BCOT overalls have my name on them!

Today we went to the Aldermaston banger track and there was testing done on the Colleges 2CV racecar in preperation for the 24 hour race. I dont care what anyone else thinks, those things sound brilliant, the noise it made when going up into third was sublime.

So much shite on the roads today too! Saw a mint MKII Escort 2 door driving round, may even be one owner!

2CV racing is ace. Make ten minutes in your life to watch this. Super close finish!!

Marshalled a couple of 2CV races at Mondello Park in the past. Brilliant fun. I remember quite a few of the cars with "Thank You For Marshalling" in the rear windows. Always a nice touch.

The old top ten is going to be tough but here goes. It'll be different in the morning fo sho'. In no particular order.

Une Very Stylish Fille - DJ Dimitri from Paris

Any Major Dude will tell you - Steely Dan

Essex Dogs - Blur

Distractions - Zero 7

Our love is here to stay - Ella Fitzgerald

Sleepwalk - Santo & Johnny

Superfly - Curtis Mayfield

The Happy Goth - Divine Comedy

Mini - Corduroy

Diskobox - Beck

Its not often I compile a top ten without at least one Depeche Mode or Ben Folds Five track. Strewth that was tricky but as I say, it'll be different tomorrow....

And add me on for Althea and Donna, class tune which always makes me think of fixing shite in the sunshine! In fact Jamaican dancehall (Desmond Dekker, Lord Tanamo) is just the best for fixing motors. Cant remove a gearbox to Ella Fitzgerald IMHO but happy to stand corrected!

All top tunes with the exception of Boston. If someone buys me another cheap compilation rock album with More Than A Feeling I will go on a kill crazy rampage!

Slightly miffed that no one here has chosen any Zappa. :(

Posted

Jewish Princess would make my top twenty if that makes you feel better Warren?

Posted

Zappa is fine with me too :) but hey, don't knock boston.. got Fred a cheap escort, didn't it? lol....

I'm not even close to giving you a top then tho. here's a good sample of what's in my head at any given time though.

Fair comment, Warren. In mitigation, my missus said that the fact I didn't like "spide" music (rave in those days) when we first knew each other gave me brownie points.

Bootleg video of Iron Maiden at IIRC The Soundhouse. Extra shite points as I read that this was recorded on a Sony Betacam. I've been a Maiden nut since I was about 9, the first album I ever bought was The Number of the Beast in 1982, on red vinyl.Mutha and Fatha Ash were displeased as I blew up the speakers on their record player.

Posted

I like Iron Maiden but continuing the 'grin' theme it was pretty funny watching people urinate in pastic bottles then hurl them at Dickinson at Reading Rock circa 1982, after he'd got a major leage strop on.

I managed to hit top pop paedo Jonathan King with a bottle of piss at Donnington circa 1987.

With hindsight as I was only a teenager at the time he probably enjoyed it!

At the risk of Mrs Ash chinning me, but in the interests of Autoshite factuality, I endeavoured through the game to find that yes, The Toon is a last/bonus level in the PC game of Driver. Furthermore, Mrs Ash spent some of her childhood in New-cassle and says that it is fairly accurate.
