What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Oh, and making me grin tonight is my discovery that my village shop is doing bottles of Henry Westons 2013 Vintage for nearly half the supermarket price.  :-D

Assuming she claimed for whiplash & associated trauma, along with returning the 4-year-old VAG-mobile to pristine condition, that figure doesn't really surprise me - and that's assuming she was the only occupant.

Plus she probably had a hire car for £200 a day despite the fact you can get the same one from Enterprise for £35

Only her in the car, n as can be seen only clonked it from rear door back. Hope she had a nice holiday.

I fixed my disco for £350 after insurance decided not to even bother sending an assessor, just got their 'salvage contractor' to phone up wanting to collect it. Er, no, FRO you bastards.

I remember a hire car I had from the insurance when I got hit up the rear cost £5700 that was a 3 year old mk3 mondeo, I joked with them saying they could have bought me one for that

Last time I got hit up the arse I phoned my insurance company who said I wasnt at fault, was entitled to a courtesy car. When I asked if they could just insure me on my Metro for a week instead of having yet another car outside (and I'd assume much cheaper for them) they said yes, I'll pass you through to get it sorted. I'd get passed through with no explanation from the previous person so I had to explain it all agian. Person 2 deicded that I was at fault and not entitled to a courtesy car. I got passed back then passed again and explained it all again... they said I could have the car but when I asked about insuring the Metro they tried to charge. I said no... the person handling the claim said I could have it gratis. After being passed forwards and backwards about 6 times I told them to shove it up their arse.

I had a dizzy bint reverse into my old dear's Motability supplied Mondeo Zetec Climate when it was about a year old. Motability were informed on the phone that I am not a shortarse and MUTHA_CMS is 20-odd stone and also tall so don't send anything too small. They showed up in an Aygo, which I immediately told the driver to take back as they took the best part of six months to do a bumper on a Focus I had in 2005 and I was fucked if I was driving it about the place. They stated there was nothing else available.

Strongly worded phonecall to Motability occurred. The third party had admitted liability so there was no reason I should've had a courtesy car which wasn't of an equal standard to the car I had at the time.

Following day, silver 10-plate BMW 320D SE M-sport touring arrived. Mondeo was gone for weeks and I didn't miss it. Even enjoyed terrorising people on the M8 with my plain clothes traffic car-a-like 3-series.

New pre-2001 style number plates arrived today for the 940 from DMB Graphics. Can definitely highly recommend them for their quick turnaround, excellent quality and service.

So if you had an trade and booze fair type event in a stunning location to promote, with international visitors, what vehicle would you choose...?

We had a Fiesta as a courtesy car when our Calibra got twatted by someone. Had it for weeks and weeks on end too, thanks to Direct Incompetance insurance.

It's supposed to be like for like if you get a courtesy car but doesn't always work that way.

My mate got an aygo with a puncture when his 10 plate octavia vrs went in for surgery last week! We drove back from somewhere in convoy at the weekend and I bullied him with the XM!

Because of the incompetence of the System which was unable to provide me with a courtesy car because, and I quote "it's been a very wet day, lots of people have been crashing, we have no courtesy cars left" I ended up with an Autoshite Courtesy Car in the form of a 1.6 Automatic Maestro... and that was actually pretty neat.

. Our Honda Accord was 'written off' for this a year or so ago.... Madness. Lady punted our car at 0.5 mph. Didn't accept the offered hire car etc thanks to the good advice on here. Accord is now a Cat D write off and her insurance company paid me £1600. The dent in the plastic bumper pushed out easily once the bike rack mount was removed. Cost... Nil. Been using the car ever since.post-5532-0-65714100-1401452952_thumb.jpg

Found this interesting documentary about the life of the LEGEND that was Mr Trebus. I wasn't sure if I should put this in the grin thread, as it was quite sad towards the end, but what a character.

I've come to the conclusion that all shonky cheap Renaults should be searched for under the keywords Renault Spares of Repair as every one on autotrader sub £750 says this in the advert.

It's Renault's equivalent of 'Barn find' for Mk1 Escorts.

Fark me, that must have taken some bollocks.

In my continuing search for a Bentley, I've just been contacted by a chap from Pistonhead. He bought a nice 95 BTR for £10250 in January this year and has since spent £11000 on servicing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It hadn't been used much for a few years and was due big services, the hydraulic one alone was £5000 PLUS, bloody Citroen bits are seriously pricey!

He now wants to sell it to me, wonder why?

Sacked off McDonald's job, just been interviewed for and offered a job driving for local chemist. Part time on a morning, fits in well with my job at pizza shop and am pleased to be out driving again. Start Thursday morning.

Citroen bits aren't expensive, but labour rates can be. Still sounds idiotic to me.

I'm watching the women's triathlon thing on BBC1. It's even better from behind.

Ding! 9 in a row. The MoT Examiner complimented me on the car's condition. Rover FTW.

Just took the busa out for the first ride of the year.

Very enjoyable - i still find it difficult to appreciate just how quick it is.

It is very civilised too - nothing like a sportsbike.

Hmm... this Xantia is trying very hard to curry favour with me.  Took the elderly barky furball out so that we could both have a quiet walk in the woods - my nephew is SO LOUD and mostly two years old, I'm told this is connected - and at the end of a relatively short trek my gammy knee was playing up and his gammy hips weren't much better.  Poor old sod couldn't get into the boot of the Xantia and I was loathe to pick him up because he was covered in mud.

Then I remembered the uppy-downy lever and the problem was solved.  I couldn't do that with a Maestro van, could I?

Posted

Get a C5 estate and you'll have a button in the boot to do that, you don't even need to start the car. When you shut the tailgate it goes back to its normal height.

I do like the C5 estate, but they are outside my current budget of tuppence ha'penny.

Have you considered dropping hints about the Maestro van? :-D
