Every time I hear a story like that I expect it to become the basis of an eBay advert.

BARN FIND HURST

Light damage from towing accident, easy repair.

*picture of utterly mangled Cadillac with every pane of glass smashed and every bit of expensive chrome trim ruined, and some shrubbery*

To me, twin axle trailers like that seem ridiculously unstable. WTF is wrong with a wheel at each corner (front pair steering) and why are they now illegal?

They are a nightmare to reverse. As far as I know, they are about to become illegal - didnt know they already were. I have never seen a flatbed with that setup, mostly exhibition trailers and the occasional large burger van.

As for the choob in the Landy - Legally its good to tow 3.5 tons, the trailer looks like a 3.5 tonner, which normally weigh about 800kgs or so, giving him around 2.6 tons of load capacity, so he is probably just within the legal limits. However just because you CAN do something doesnt mean you SHOULD do something. 90's are terrible tow vehicles - very short wheelbase and very little weight over the back axle. As mentioned above, add in big balloon tyres with big knobbly treads and a trip to the ditch was pretty much inevitable.

A Disco or a Rangie would have been a somewhat better choice - but given how much that barge is hanging out over the back of the trailer it would act like a pendulum and amplify any fishtailing making the trip pretty unpleasant. I used to see stuff like this all the time in my old job....people think that towing their wee box trailer fill of hedge clippings down to the tip is enough experience to justify hiring a big trailer and picking up their ebay purchased chod and razzing up the motorway with it. Often ends badly.

Yesterday gave the green MGF a wash and went zipping along some nice roads, all the way to Crews Hill. So that was one junction of the M25 and then the Ridgeway :)

However, my steam engine mate was bringing his 1926 Foden steam waggon up to steam and then we pottled off for a brief run around the outskirts of Enfield. It brought a lot of smiles and waves from random folk in cars and so on. Lovely. It had been about 3 years since I sat in the cab and it was great.

Just been in EAMF and heard an old chap who frequents the place asking for a "Lambada sensor" :D

Not the first to ask for such a component, I recall someone asking for one before. When I worked there, we used to get an oul fella who came in asking for stuff that he'd made up names for, and that we were supposed to understand. "Wee cups" were core plugs and "bushes" were junior hacksaw blades. I don't think we ever did figure out what he meant by "bastard tape"

Used to occasionally frequent a salvage yard whose only staff was an 80-year old Hungarian named Zoltan. He'd been in Scotland since the 40s so had a somewhat unique way with words; I still to this day haven't worked out what a "fuck-kin' halcovader" is, or what it's relevance to checking secondhand batteries was, but he always offered to get the "fuck-kin' halcovader" out to make sure.

Didn't like his foreman and he wanted gaffer tape.

I remember in my first job being very careful not to get caught out by going to the stores to "fetch a long stand" or the like. So when the guy I was working with asked me to get a bastard file, I really thought he was pulling my leg!

We did all the usual stuff to an unfortunate newbie at Charles Hurst when I was a lad. Bucket of blue steam, left handed screwdriver, spark plugs for a Montego diesel etc. He lost the plot when Mal told him to get a rubber hammer to get a stuck rocker cover off an A Series Maestro. Of course, the rubber hammer was produced.

Someone squirted carb cleaner on the backside of Newbie's overalls, and when it soaked through to his arse crack he fairly hopped. Not nice. The Perp got a warning for that.

i called the local metal merchants today to collect the nova i have broken and when the hiab turned up it had surprise shite on the back, i was slightly gutted but the guy explained he had to dig it out of someones back garden to load it up it had been there that long so the underside was probably weetabix, so the grin here is the surprise shite, i bet you all want to see it .......

I used to occasionally borrow a twin wheeled car trailer which had sort of fork lift type tyres on it. Coupled with my complete inability to be able to tow and a Mk4 Cortina on the trailer, it was an absolute nightmare. I'll never forget overtaking a car/caravan on a bend and coming within a nano-millimetre of twatting into them. The look on the blokes face was priceless.

Last time I borrowed a car trailer it belonged to a well known rally preparation outfit and had 4 knackered tyres with "Not For Highway Use, Racing Purposes Only" written on the sidewalls fitted. Next time I needed one I hired, £40 for 24 hours use of a year old trailer. Worth it.

Selling my mk1 BX estate was one of the best things I've ever done. Now, the car is doing things like this!

I just had to look out the window to check if Meg was still there.

That's the diseasel one from Aldershot isn't it? What's happening to it?

Don't remind me, after my lad blew apart yet another fuckin gearbox on his ridiculously overpowered Imprezza i foolishly offered to drag it up to North Wales to the man who can for yet another gearbox conversion.

So we borrowed his mates bloody great twin axle trailer, sitting on 400 x 8 fork truck tyres and no spare, towed behind my then new Hilux.

Brakes felt shit on it but there you go, on the way back empty we stopped for a burger and whilst sitting on the side of the trailer i noticed something missing, namely one brake drum was completely empty, and the others either not connected or doing fuck all.

His mate used to tow his offroading Disco round on that, not a fuckin brake to its name, Jesus wept.

Just brought the 2cv back to its new home. Looks like space for at least one more in there too.post-5306-139750703731_thumb.jpg

^^^ Sweet, I've got a pretty big garage now, enough for about 4 cars, unfortunately the house is rented by the company I work for from a landlord, so I can't really go around collecting chod. Cars here are too expensive to buy anyway.

Old Man's said he's open to suggestions for a change of cars.

When we took the remains of my puma to the bridge we borrowed amy's uncles trailer. He is a bit dubious, and his trailer even more so. We came empty the back way, my bro in law driving his navara, and it scared the shit out of him. No brakes either.

Going to the bridge we got amy to drive close behind us and we went up the m40. Bil was shitting it a bit as his license wouldn't cover it, neither would the insurance.

We had a good few beers once mission accomplished!

Knowing Mike, he'll be sorting it out mechanically, if not cosmetically.

PHAKT: A mildly Barried 09 plate Fiesta Zetec S is driven by a child with his hat on backwards is not as quick as a shabby 52 plate Seat Leon driven by a 44 year old fat bloke. :-D

One of my pet hates it people posting pictures of their dinner on facebook, having said that my mate just posted this and it did laugh.

He just got served this as his started in a restaurant. Do you think they're trying to tell him something?

Only if his left testicle is torn asunder and he has pea shoots draped artistically* around his penis......if not, then no. Tis just a starter!

Commuted to work in the 126 today - it takes less than a minute longer (on a 27 mile commute) to drive it there than the big cars do.

Things I have learned!

1. A 126 handles quite well

2. Bring earplugs

3. Bring spare earplugs after first pair have vibrated out of your ears.

Despite a brand new petrol tank and sender unit, the gauge has stopped working. Need to scramble about underneath and fit the lead back on (probably).

Car spend this week - £549 for carb rebuild, full service, MoT, two tyres, fitting of fuel tank and new sender unit. Plus £75 for 6 month's tax and £8.33 for fuel.

Grin factor - priceless!!!!!
