Jehovah's Bystanders out along the Watch Tower in my street. They NEVER call at my house.

Interesting...

Well, the saga of the KV6 is a little clearer now, apparently it needed to be registered back to 'PLG' as its on Disabled tax. Spoke to the owner of the car and he said he'd send the V5 off with my details, but Andy cms206 came up trumps, and offered to get the V5 and get the car channged by going to the local DVLA office himself. What a bloke! So hopefully, all being well, the KV6 will be down here soon and ready for me to use straight away.

Also got a text off an old mate I used to work with, he is getting married soon and I've been invited to that aswell as the 'stag do' never been to one of these so it kind of strikes fear in my heart

Unbelievably a VW Golf AND the M56: yesterday whilst on another cycle buying mission I was overtaken by a metallic green P reg Golf piloted by a youngish lady.

The M56 seems to be mostly used by complete bollock juggling knob socks who hog the middle lane, brake randomly and not indicate etc, but this bird's lane discipline and overtaking skills were uber. Kept her distance, planned overtaking then pulled into the near side lane again, all whilst maintaining a speed of about 85mph

If everyone drove like that it'd be far nicer using the motorways.

That's my old Polo in the background, I'm pretty sure of it. EDITED: It is my old Polo but it's SORN'd, not Taxed, my mistake. Still, I'm very pleased to hear he's being worked on positively and it was great to see the car is still about and should be back on the road in the near future.

Bored whilst the wife is watching Eastenders I was having a browse through the main Autoshite page and came across the eBay watch pages.

As I was very bored I checked to see if any of the cars have survived. Here are a couple of results -

Renault 20 - Sold for £102 in 2003 - Still around.

Toyota 1000 - Sold for £510 in August 05 - Still exists.

Colt Lancer - Sold for £410 in December 05 - Dies shortly afterwards

Morris Marina - Sold in Jan 05 for £310 - Dead since April 06

Renault 8 - Sold in 2004 for £310 - Still taxed.

What surprises me is that any of these which at the time were proper bangers have survived at all and what a cracking selection of stuff there was about 10 years ago.

Reading through the sheaf of papers that came with the BX I came to the last two MoTs. From 13 advisories in May of 2011 to just one rather obvious advisory in June of 2012 of "corrosion to rear", looks like DW has saved me a lot of pain there, so thanks for that :D. Was also great to read that way back in '94, owner #2 traded his '78 Toyota Cressida in for £450 against the then £7,000 BX. Sadly, said Toyota Cressida, RJE859S, disappeared from our roads only a year later.

Nice date tonight with a 22 year old trainee nurse with big boobies. I am a shallow, shallow man. But pretty happy too. 8)

Finally after a year and a bit I found a few hours without pissing rain, snow or sleet to get cracking with some knacking.

Sexy striptease.

Cleaned and naked.

Taking the horrible great donk apart in situ makes it a lot easier to lift out, that's all the up top dismantling done, now just have to grovel underneath and pull out torque converter and bellhousing bolts, undo a couple of oil pipes and engine mounts then hump the lump somewhere warm to strip what's left, build up its replacement, put it all back together (and await the 50/50 chance it as well does a 'K' series on me). It's encouraging that a job I've been putting off for so long is a third of the way there after just an afternoon.

With the ZX sat on mums driveway waiting for the replacement wheel cylinder tomorrow, the guy at work who I helped buy his car has lent it to me! So I'm driving around in an Almera Tino for the next few days.

It's not too bad tbh! Feels more connected to the road and less 'floaty' than the Meriva, goes ok, gets nice and hot etc and goes well past 85 easily...

However, what makes me laugh (and my colleague who I am picking up this week as he has busted his ankle) is the heater controls. The knob is broken, and there is a piece of wire poking out of the dash connected to the actuator, pull it out for heat, push in for cold. Some bloke was probably really proud of that bodge when he did it. Works well though!

Ahh, I see your problem there. You plan on asking her.

My Golf failed its MOT.

However, only on emissions after being in a damp lock-up for 18 months.

I had spent the weekend fettling with it, but I'm a bit crap with cars and probably spent more time cleaning it than doing anything mechanical. I was expecting a list of perished rubber items and corroded brake parts.

They rang up to ask if I'd mind them fiddling with the carb to get the emissions down, so hopefully I should get a pass this afternoon.

This is doubly good news as the Acadiane induced dowager's hump is getting quite painful.

The Danish uni where I had applied for a PhD and got rejected because of a missing document that they hadn't told me about failed to find anyone who was enough of a mentalist to predict their procedures, and they are re-advertising the position.

Not only that, but I have just found out that the stipend isn't some silly couple of hundred quid to tide you over till the end of the month, but a juicy €3400 per month! Just for being a research student!

I am pretty excited, although deep inside me there's a little voice predicting that something somewhere will go wrong in the end and I will end up eternally unemployed or, at best, trying to survive on an annual bursary of £13k while enjoying* the exquisite* surroundings of the University of Hull.

Also had a 'friendly chat' with the manager of the local kitchen showroom where I park my car in order to avoid it getting vandalised every other week. He said that the twattish little CCTV firm that manages 'parking abuse' have already sent me various bogus 'fines' in the post. I said I'm really looking forward to receiving them and filing a claim for harrassment, at which point his bullshit generator went off the scales- among other fun stuff, he said that his brother had lost a court case against a PPC, but refused to give me the case details, and agreed to my 'surprised' bluffing that they had gone to the Magistrates (for a civil claim worth £100)!

Me and a mate organised our first car meet night and it was a success, well apart from being cold, foggy, poorly lit and smokey because of a near by bonfire!, we had 20+ cars turn up at the lorry park in Ipswich which is good for a mid week meet, I took some photos but the poor light didn't help things.

Meeting Cobblers and finding out that he's about half the age I thought he was surprising, nice chap all the same. I like the look of your meet Trigger, that sort of variety is very appealing.

That's my mates, he got a 6 page feature about it in this months Retro Cars magazine, lucky sod.

Mr Cobblers delivered my pedal box, which looks and feels suitably strong. I set to immediately to try and fit it but the weather very suddenly turned very cold and it began to snow so it's bolted in loose for now and I'll finish fitting it tomorrow/when it warms up a bit.
