What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I always liked the Peugeot x06 cars, which made what followed even harder to stomach. Without hyperbole, I would say the 308 is one of the ugliest mainstream cars of the last 30 years, whereas the 406 Coupe was one of the most beautiful. I think the DS3 is certainly one of the more interesting hatches, but if I owned one the first thing I'd do is disconnect those fucking DRLs, which seem to have a secondary purpose of signalling the MIR space staiton

Agree with you there. I had a poke around one recently and spent ages looking at all the little details. It’s got more going for it than, say, the new Focus which is fug ugly IMO. However, I found the DS3 cramped inside which is crap considering the size of them.

Am I the only one to like Audi A1s? I prefer them to the Citroen as they seem a bit less in yer face.

Put £30 petrol in the Princess not so long ago and I've racked up 150 miles and counting which is a massive improvement on my usually 30ish miles to £10.

The fronts ruined a bit by the running light but the rest is nice.

Those DS3 things looks pretty nice to me, but they can still shove those stupid daytime running lights up their arse/s.

To all the people moaning about the DRLs : You can disable them in about 20 seconds in the dash menu on the DS3.

If you can't navigate a simple menu system, open the fusebox and pull the fuse.

Remember to turn them back on when you go for your MOT.

Build a bridge and get over it.

If there are means to switch them off, you have just given me an excuse to hate every DS3 driver I see who leaves them on

Like "New Mini" or Fiat 500 drivers, I doubt if many DS3 drivers can either read or know what a fusebox is...

Kind of. That's it straight out the gun with no polishing so it's got more shineyness to give. I'm happy with the paint but (a proper painter did it) I'm a bit disappointed in some of my prep. I went over this thing like 20 times yet I missed a couple of small dents plus I just did the best I could when welding up the rear arches and they're not perfect. I've got fibreglass (JDM YO!) arches to go on it so that'll cover some of the not so great bits. It is great to have it all one colour again though.

Does indeed look good and those wheels really suit it.

Razzed up the dual carriageway to the shop for some beers earlier and I saw the young lad from over the road (who's got a fit mum and sister) jogging along with a fuel can. It was raining a bit too so I did a U turn and picked him up. He'd run out of fuel about a mile up the road, cos he was skint after buying a new car and was trying to squeeze too much out of the red bit in the fuel guage. We've all been there!

Poor sod had already walked 2 miles home to get a fuel can and borrow a fiver off his (fit) mum, filled the can up and walked all the way back to find he'd got no funnel and poured most of it down the side of the car trying to get it in the tank, then walked 2 miles home again to borrow another fiver, filled the can up and by the time I picked him up he'd just realised he'd forgot the funnel again.

He got it sorted with some kind of macdonalds cup type funnel in the end.

The reason he got a new car was because the head gasket went on his old Seat Arosa, so he replaced it with an MG ZR :D

Spose as this is page 827 I may as well stick this on:

Had a relativly amusing journey home from work. On the way I noticed some (rather large) lad in a Mitsubishi Colt who seemed reluctant to let me pass on the dual carriageway. At some lights whislt he never made eye contact, he revved his engine and edge forward. As the lights turned green he floored it pushing the little engine as far as it would go. I simply stuck 'sports mode' on, stuck rubber to pile and took off like rat on fire. I expected him to be a few meters back, but when I looked in mirror he was a fair way back, I didnt realise how far I went, he either must have quickly given up or I wrongly assumed his car would be quicker than it was. I'm not into all this traffic light grand prix malarky but I guess the cobwebs do need to be blown out from time to time.

Today has been a better day than a few days ago, especially since I acquired a flat screen telly from a friend who is downsizing. I now have enough space in the living room to do lots of things, like spreading out an entire engine, or painting all the panels from the Polo, or some other ridiculous thing I tend to do when I don't want to work outside on my car because it's raining, or 3am or both. The massive old CRT telly is going to get stripped out and turned into a cat bed for my brother's three cats to fight over, though I suspect his excitable puppy will try and squeeze into it instead.

Making me grin? A 53 plate Renault Espace (and that surprised me a bit too)

Kangoo lunched its starter motor so garage loaned me their Espace for a couple of days. Amazed that it drove absolutely spot on, everything worked and it was proper comfy. I was properly impressed. Thats it was for sale for £3.5k did tempt me a bit but the every present fear factor that would accompany ownership put me off.

Apparently its had new clutch, head gasket, pistons, oil cooler, engine rebuild, turbo and a fair few other bits in the last twelve months  Still, it did drive well.

Sounds like a 2.2dci :o

Run away. Or offer £1500, a bag of Walkers cheese and onion and a half-eaten Mars bar.

Correct!

I'm not buying though, don't need a seven seater for a start but I was quite impressed with it.

They're a bit like a Ferrari, in that the price your buy price is just the entry fee... Plenty more expenditure to follow. :D

Pardon me if this is a pearoast, but has anyone been following The Foul Mouthed C(o)unt on Facebook?

Had a 1998-ish 2.2 diesel Grande Espazz a couple of years or so ago. It was actually quite impressive with a nice driving position, shit loads of room and was good to drive. Obv. it had to do something to remind me who it was made by and promptly shit it's gear selector cable 'thing'.

Edit; making me grin was my son 'officially' becoming a qualified mechanic yesterday, 3 years of college/apprenticeship seems to have gone in a flash.

It's a Pub gone bad. I think its got a stand at the door to hang your political correctness on, and it recently breached FB's Terms of Service. It makes me grin anyway.

The earlier 2.2dti was a million times better from what I can make out. God knows why they replaced it...

Good on him. vk_smiley_thumbs_up.gif You did get him to think about working for a French car dealer to ensure he has work for life?

My brother has owned a 54 plate 2.2 Espazz from new. It grenaded at 90ish k. It cost him the best part of £3k to rebuild it all, but to give the thing some credit, it ain't bad. No electrical faults yet!!!

Drove a 2.2 DCi Espace when I worked at the garage:

I really very much liked it, it was great to drive, comfortable, responsive, great driving position, certainly one of those cars I wouldnt mind owning sometime in the future.

I also drove the V6 auto version which was pretty nice and smooth, right engine for the size of the car.

 Cheers, I don't know where he's going next, looks like I'm tasked with finding a job for him whilst he carries on where he is. I've got an 'in' at V******l but it'd be temporary work if he does get in.

Changed lanes in the traffic earlier to go a different way for a change. The Hyundai behind me was rammed up the arse by a Mercedes sprinter about a minute later.

A close shave.
