More magazines for the collection by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

I bought this little bunch this evening, I saw the CAR magazines for sale on ebay locally so i fired of a emailing to the seller asking if she will sell the lot to me, which she did, I've been to Frinton on sea to collect them.

I'm yet to go though the CAR magazines but i know they range from 1971 to 1994 but the Motor Trends she threw in as extras, 59 issues from 1962 to 1994, There's some brilliant adverts and features in them, I'll get scanning soon!

Car was the best magazine in its day and i cant wait for the scans :D

The first CAR issue I've just picked up (The 1974 issue on the top there above) and the first page i opened was a giant road test featuring the Capri 1600 vs Magnum 2300 Estate and the Renault 15TS, Strange Combo but great all the same.

Oh and the R15 wins!

Re Car. Yes, it was a proper magazine back in the day when LJK Setright used to write for them!

I'm quite chuffed because I picked up this book for the bonkers price of 25p in my local charity shop. A late 80s coffee table book about Jack Setton's car collection, although the collection has long since been sold off. I remember reading about this and seeing a few pictures years ago in a car magazine, but I can't remember which one. Jack Setton ran Pioneer France at one point and lived in a huge chateau with a private race track, spending his cash on a spectacular collection of road and racing cars.

Apologies for the somewhat shite picture quality.

Barrymore drives a DS3. I like to think this proves some sort of a point. I wonder if he'll use 'poor visibility' as a defense in court?

he should have dropped that in his swimming pool instead of the dead rent boy

I went to a party at Barrymore's place some years ago. Bizarely, there were no ashtrays. Another partygoer told me "Don't worry, we just throw our fags in the pool"

As we got into the Rover today, I mentioned to the O/H that there was moss growing on the ledge of the rear door (It's parked next to a hedge). In all seriousness she replied "Is it on the inside?"

Oh, and and I saw a FD Victor estate on what looked like Revolutions and a Lancia Delta Itegrale on the road today... :D

Apparently I've been tracked down by a bank in Hong Kong to be a beneficiary of a dormant account with $26mill in!! I'm just so lucky!

OCBC BANK SINGAPORE

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited

65 Chulia Street, #29-00 OCBC Centre

Singapore 049513.

I am a private auditor at OCBC Bank in Singapore. During our last routine check I discovered a dormant account belonging to a single holder (name withheld for security reason) to the tune of $26.2M (Twenty six million two hundred thousand united state dollars).

Though according to Banking Regulations/Legislation in Singapore which demands that I notify the fiscal authorities after a statutory period of eight years, dormant accounts of such are called in by the monetary regulatory bodies. The above set of facts underscores my reason for writing you this business proposal.

My investigations of the said account reveals that the investor died in 2004 Tsunami tragedy Indonesia the exact time the account was last operated, I can confirm with certainty that the said investor died intestate and no next-of-kin to his estate has been found or has come forward all these years. Although with the help of my official status, working with you can secure the funds in the dormant account for us instead of allowing it pass as unclaimed money into the escrow account of the Singapore Government Authority. This is especially possible as you bear the same LAST NAME to the decease, and can stand as his extended relative. This exactly is why I crave your participation and co-operation.

I have seized all relevant Bank documents including access to the very dormant account of the deceased which would facilitate my fronting you as the claimant/sole beneficiary of the decease estate/huge capital (US$26.2M) and ultimately transfer the money to any account nominated by you, Of course you shall be handsomely reward your part in this transaction with 50% compensation of the decease estate/huge capital (US$26.2M), less any expenses.

I shall however leave out the final details of this transaction till I receive an affirmation of your desire to participate. Be assured that I am on top of the situation. There will be no risk involved whatsoever if you agree to come on board. Needless to say, UTMOST CONFIDENTIALITY is of vital importance if we are to successfully reap the immense benefits of this transaction.

I guarantee that the transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect all from any bridge of law. To affirm your willingness and cooperation to my proposal please contact me through my private email ([email protected]) stating the followings:

(1) Full Name; (2) Telephone and Mobile Numbers; (3) Postal Address: (4) Occupation; (5) Date of Birth (6) Passport/Driver's license

Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Got the Rover Coupe a present today as it passed 100,000 yesterday. An ARC car wash with the roller brushes, reminded me of being a kid, loved it

Not as impressive as Trigger's haul from yesterday, but I've just been to collect this lot:

1981-1989 in binders, and less than five miles away!

Also collected this:

I wasn't planning on immediately buying another typewriter, but it was local and no-one outbid me so I got it for a bargain £3. Aside form a few very minor cosmetic blemishes it's perfect. Not bad for a 58 year old.

Well done Peter, is that every issue of CAR? you've got a nice set there, I've been making a start scanning my Motor Trend magazine, by god there's some fab stuff in those pages!

Now if I was going to be immature and sexist I might say somthing like

Pfwaaaaaorrrr! gorblimey! check out the headlights on that!"

but being a sad, 40 year old well behaved gentlemanly dad of toddlers I will say:

lovely old car and your wee one is doing well - I got my boy to paint the floor of a '54 moggy in black hammerite when he was two and a good job he did of it even if the Swarfega did bring him out in a rash! - child labour is the way forward! their we hands are great at reaching into cylinders when you drop a screw into them!
