This morning Absolute Radio launched a 60's only station, I've had it on this morning and so far they have been playing some great music, They launch a 70's station next week as well.

Shame about the Dj's and adverts but it's still much better then local radio.

Got a link for that, Trig? Sounds like something I'd listen to during these long hours at the keyboard...

Seeing an F-reg algae-and-beige 405 estate with massive ground clearance in Harrogate this morning, I've got a crap picture on my phone of it but I couldn't get one any closer as after chasing it by pushbike for over half a mile it went up a hill, and I couldn't keep up.

Looking at the vacancies page on the website of a well known airline which is looking for a storeman.

Duties include... "- Monitoring spare part movements to ensure that robberies, loans and exchanges are completed correctly."

Yesterday I was driving along Royal Artillery Way in Southend when I saw an immaculate beige Montego saloon on the other carriageway. J***FJN reg, complete with SMAC's plates and sticker, and driven by an old giffer. 100 yards further on I gave way to a really tidy Austin Somerset on a roundabout, then later on I saw the same super tidy beige 305 estate (ala Watanabe) which was on a D plate twice. Alas no photographs as I was at work and didn't have my camera with me :(

M'coli's post about the 405 estate has just reminded me that when I was stuck in traffic on the A12 on the way down to pick up the Ligier, I was sat behind a red E reg 405 saloon. Can't recall ever seeing one on an E plate, not even when they were new. Looked pretty tidy as well, albeit with a bit of the usual PSA Pogpeasant Pink syndrome.

I had a red 'E' plate saloon (1.6XE) E550 XKA that was bloody ace. Had just had a new Weber carb before I got it and it was fantabulous on fuel, rarely dropping below 40mpg. It was also three cajillion times better than a later 1.9 injection one I bought a few years later that was an absolute bag of wank.

The earliest 405 I can remember was a mates F plate 405 SRi, what a car that was, no PAS, possibly one of the nicest handling saloons I've ever driven, it was a low miler when he got it, he put a set of decent tyres on it, Yoko's IIRC and it was even better. Sadly written off when he slowly stuffed it into a bridge wall as his missus was 'distracting him'

There was a F reg 405 for sale up the road fro me a few weeks back, they was after £350 for it, It looked pretty tidy as well.

This sounds as though I'll have to keep an eye out for it if it's an early survivor. It was in splendidly old money condition.

It belonged to the man who was living in the caravan on the site of a closed down factory, I think they are patrolling it whilst the place is being sold to developers.

It was only up for sale for a few hours before vanishing.

That's as close as I could get to it, I can't cycle uphill as fast as I can hurtle down them! The bonnet's covered in what I can only assume to be algae or aphid droppings or the like.

I saw that on St Helens Street a couple of weeks back. Mental or what?

Just discovered that the E3 has a rear foglight integral with the offside rear lamp cluster, operated by an obscure button hidden under the dash. Pretty unusual for a '60s design, surely? But then I suppose so are the intermittent wipers and 3-speed heater fan. Must've been quite a motor in its day.
