Thanks peeps. Now I'm not so worried about the fact I've just paid to have my carb tuned for little discernible difference

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

And before anyone says that's off topic, I got it from a episode of the Professionals, Cowley reads it out, It seemed to stuck a cord with me for some reason.

^ good news NC. Hope there's not further rounds and you can relax a bit.

This place makes me grin. I know I'm dead new and rarely have owt of value to contribute and I've not been on here 5 years like everyone else but despite all the winging and sniping and "OMG everyone's leaving" chatter, the standard of knowledge/banter/sharpness is head and shoulders above anywhere else I know, and without sounding too ghey it feels like a real spiritual home to me (despite me being presently shiteless).

Popping over to Lee's SAAB Coffee Bar last night made me realise how sharp this place is, and I used to live on there.

So yeah, you guys make me grin. :oops:

Yet another +1 from me! :mrgreen:

Reading a book about Spitfire pilots in WWII. This bit made me grin.

5 September 1942 Operations Record Book.

"Sgt. Pilot Freel, an American pupil pilot on No. 20 Course, had a spot of trouble while flying a Spitfire at Chedworth today. In order to make his plight known, Sgt. Freel took off his Mae West, wrote on it 'wheels don't work, wireless don't work - love Steve' and flew low over dispersal to drop it off. He flew so low that he struck a stationary Miles Master which was cut in two and written off as a consequence. Sgt. Freel is reporting to Brighton tomorrow for a three week course as our first representative there. We feel this may improve his discipline and perhaps his grammar, but the directness of his recorded prose writings leaves nothing to be desired."

Been waiting for a DVD to turn up for ages now. turns out it was delivered to the wrong address (x Terrace in stead of x Villas, clearly very similar :roll: ). Did cheer me up to see the person who it was wrongly delivered to wrote the correct instructions and re posted it, when they could have just kept it an no one would have been any the wiser

It's Jack Elam. Great character actor - mainly played cowboys and villains or just villainous cowboys... :)

A couple of replies to the b3ta question of the week on how to save money.

http://b3ta.com/questions/savingmoney/post1428527

Don't bother with a tv license instead just have a video recording of a chicken going around in a microwave ready to stick on should the tv license man come round.

Van drivers. Save money on fuel costs.

1. First buy a premium rate phone number.

2. Display it on a sign which says, 'HOW'S MY DRIVING?'

3. Attach to rear of van.

4. Drive like a cunt.

5. profit

They may not be completely taken in by a 3' chicken in a 50" microwave that's only 2" deep and wired to the stereo :)

Father Ted you're a bad man. £30.12 is way too much :lol:

Jack Elam was of course also the "doctor" riding in Burt Reynolds' Dodge ambulance in The Cannonball Run... :lol:

Did LOL at that. Although in fairness, I think he got a raw deal and was the scapegoat for the Jackson machine.

America being America, ex-Dr. Murray will be out before too long and coining it. Shit deal right now, though...

Just driving near home, some lad has got his Saab 9-3 parked on a double yella, half blocking the road and causing everyone to have to stop and take turns at passing while he pisses about moving tat from the rear seat to the boot. (obv not taking it out of the pavement-side rear door, but the side in the road, just to cuse a bit more obstruction) As i'm waiting to go past I think 'what a nob head' and mrs B gives him a toot of the horn to register her displeasure. He's staring at us mouthing 'what???' with an incredulous look on his face. Then the car behind me gives him a mighty blast, and its driver shouts 'OI! WHY DONT YOU GET A FUCKING MOVE ON AND STOP BLOCKING THE ROAD YOU WANKER'!!!

Thats more like it - I was gonna say that but could not think of the right combination of words.

Forgive me shiters for I have sinned... dalliances with modern cars and not even so much lurking here... :oops:

Anyway, after a lot of cocking about (been sacked again, now working part time driving school buses) I'm happy to say I should now be back for the foreseeable.

Fleet Updates: The ex-garrbaldy £150 Autoshite Save Cavalier Classic is still performing sterling service, now on 142k-ish miles and so far the only failures have been the front nearside wishbone bushes (now replaced, offside still to be done as a precaution - £42 all in) and a puncture (repaired for £7). CV boots also done (£8.40 the pair). Ran out of pez last week meaning that the fuel light doesn't work and the fuel gauge is more inaccurate than the one on the blue SRi which is still awaiting a return to the road. Still no demisters either... need to start investigating.

Proton is still lurking awaiting me spending money on it. Coming soon, hopefully.

So, yeah, I'm back-ish. A grin for me :D
