Just browsing for gloves on sportsdirect.com

Does it mention my new local branch? Seriously, one's just opened up within walking distance! I went to look for some deck shoes, but no joy; I could have ladies', at 8 euros (not a lot of use when I have size 11/45 feet) or man-size by Vans, at 45 euros. NFW I'm spending that kind of dosh! But, remembering the one in Southport, they do sometimes have bargains, so I'll be in there occasionally. They advertised for staff, which is great as I need a job; they applied a cut-off age limit, 45. Oh great, I'm 52. :(

I know a couple of people who've worked for them and reckon they're just about the worst posible employer in retail. Which is a fair accolade.

Christ there are some hot cars on the road today, This weekend is the Nationals hot rod and custom show at the Suffolk showground here in Ipswich, On the Saturday they do a cruise down to Felixstowe, I've just had to give a mate a lift from Felixstowe to pick his van up and the amount of hot motors about is unreal.

I seriously had goose pimples droving down the A14 past the conveys of American and custom cars and pick ups Just seen a nice LHD Morris Minor Traveller with a nice burble towing a caravan and a 1950's Chevy pick up with about 4 people in the back downing down the motorway!

Anyone at a loose end tomorrow should come here to Ipswich to the show. 8)

Trigger: you Must get out on the road tomorrow with camera! :D

Sports Direct: I never even applied, for a number of reasons:

1) They're a big business and I hate working for big businesses, nobody cares. Everyone's too busy watching their own back or being Salesman Of The Month, fuck that for a game of soldiers!

2) They sell sportswear, which implies some degree of enthusiasm for physical sports. You'll go a long way to find anyone with less of that enthusiasm than me.

3) As Tonedpear says, they are at least in the running for worst possible employer; I didn't know that but I would have guessed, see 1).

4) You just KNOW what you're going to get in there as "background" music... I'd survive about 20 minutes of that, if I was lucky. All day every day? Never going to happen, people will die.

Oh and Norm? Ta mate! :D

Well, I'm in Belgium at the moment, being here is pretty much grinworthy, spotyted some shite around Londinium and Brussles over the past few days too.

Discovering that Louth and the surrounding area is THE tat corner of Britain: one TR7 good enough? How about two plus a rather shit looking Fuego, countless Morris 1000s in varying states of disrepair, VW camper and Reliant Scimitar that both look untouched since God was a lad and a vast selection of horrible old Escorts, Orions and other old chod.

I assume you put your newfound photographic skills to good use and got shots of that lot then? :)

Oh yes, Churchill! *disclaimer: some were taken on the move, some were taken by my daughter and all were taken during during complaints from the domestic manager. It'll be a while before they're uploaded, hosted and posted but there should be a few more to come. I'm bloody sure the Fuego owner had a Safrane on his drive too so more investigation will need to be done.

Managed to cycle into the Dales on Friday and back today with no mishaps, except a wasp sting today. :D

That means my Coast-to-Coast ride next year is on.

Also, I've nearly lost 3 stone since Feb through cycling.

Out in the E3 earlier, tootling through a village I passed a group of young kids playing on those silly metal scooters that seem to be all the rage at the minute. One lad, who can't have been more than 8 or 9, pointed at the car as I drove past and said "Hey, look at that BMW!" Now I know that to anyone of our age the E3 is pretty much instantly recognisable as a BMW, but to someone of the post-Bangle generation I wasn't quite so sure. Maybe there's hope for the youth of today yet.

A similar thing happened to me today, I popped into Mcdonalds tonight in the Kadett to buy a Mcfurry (Flake, yummy), as i was parked eating it these two young lads, no more then 13, came up behind the car and started to lock their pushbikes on to a railing that was behind me, i had visions of the bikes failing over and hitting my car so i started it up to move it.

I one of the young lads jumped 5 foot and shouted "Wow!" and started pointing at my car whilst grinning, I like to think I've just turned him into a shite orange car lover.

The bloke who sold me an MR2 (mk1) was cleaning his windows, and two kids under 10 years old walked past and said 'Look at that Ferrari!' He took all the Toyota badges off and blacked out the lights (and made a complete mess of it) because of this.

When my grandsons (then 7 and 5) and their parents came to visit us over here a couple of years ago, we picked them up at the airport using the pickup (obviously, as the luggage-carrier) and my red Capri (as the pickup didn't have enough seats for everyone).

Their dad rode with me in the Capri as I led the way home, and apparently the boys couldn't take their eyes off "Grandad's Ferrari" all the way! Wait till they get a load of the X1/9....

...And no, that doesn't give you all the instant right to sign up and give me an internet tousling! But if you want to join in relatively seriously (we don't want to get all anal, but even I know you can take light-hearted too far) then we will make you welcome. I hope. As long as it doesn't interfere with your Autoshite activities! We're hoping to make it friendly and constructive.
