Here's a seasonal one to raise the sprits (I have been a touch on the grumpy side today as a result of a really shitty week at work )

One of the first gigs I ever went too (in Sneek, oop north), ca. 1991. Good introduction to live music.Ding dong... Florence! etc.

Think the first gig I went to was Stiff Little Fingers in Manchester, circa 1980/1.Absolutely blinding, played an incredible set and left a huge impression.

This youtube clip is great, its F1 driver Antonio Pizzonia showing off his 1337 skillz0rz to Steve Sutcliffe of Autocar. The Autocar feller is impressively cool as he prepares to barrel-roll!

First live band I ever saw were the Bootleg Beatles. Bloody good but I suspect the large quantities of old dog helped the ambiance somewhat. Over the years I have seen many live gigs and certainly the live music seems better than the studio stuff ( but here I suspect the alcohol and crowd make a big difference).

The most bonkers gig was the Ozric Tentacles in Manc - by christ that was a weird gig - good but very very weird. I think the fact I was off my head on rather a large amount of prescription drugs and alcohol probably helped things there - but to this day I remain convinced I had a conversation with someone who was dead, I mean really dead he was telling me how it helped pass the time before coming back again.

Live music - FTW. But If I want to feel chilled I put on

qw - makes me grin like a loon every time I hear that.

Ahh. This is what sundays are all about. Still in my dressing gown, watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and drinking endless cups of tea. :)

As it was a Santa Special, the infant got a wooden train, too. (Everyone say Aaaw)

That 1st photo is great pompei, really evocative, i reckon it'd look good 'shopped into b/w

Woohoo It's official - Simon Cowell hasn't got the Christmas number one slot!

Maybe he should have tried this...............the No 1 by Rage Against the Machine as sort of performed by the X-Factor contestants..........

Warning this clip contains explicit lyrics

It just goes to show the power of the internet, a facebook based campaign to get it to No. 1 instead of the X-Factor winner has created the first ever download-only Christmas number 1 - Power to the people!

Posted

Saying that, both the X Factor winner & Rage Against The Machine are both signed to Sony Records, so its win-win for them (& Cowell, as he is a Sony Records man).

Anybody remember this?

I'd totally forgotten about them until a recent retro afternoon spent with Mr Ratdat. I always wanted one and never got one, so this Christmas I've treated myself

Would probably give the 21st century child at least 7 minutes of entertainment but I forsee much mirth at future drunken evenings at the Mash household!

I had a cheap ripoff of one of those, all you could really do was turn left.

Posted

Holy Hell I had one of those! Quite possibly what sent me down the shite-loving path to where i am today. hmmm....

Glad I didn't buy that Rage Against the Machine track now if there was a facebook campaign. Is ther a campaign against Facebook, I'd happily join that :D Making me grin was James May's lego house tonight on BBC2. Really enjoyable bit of television.

Cripes! I had one! I seem to recall a different one with working wipers (which as a quite anal child, I extended using drinking straws as they clearly didn't reach the eyeline of the child driver). And yes, the RATM thing makes me happy too. Sure, it makes some record boss somewhere very happy, but a quality song is number one, and that's worth smiling about!

What I would love to see is them playing the full uneditted version on primetime TV, you know the TOTP's slot before the Queen's speech, maybe get Bob Geldof to introduce it................

Aye, Rage A.T M. at number one.Yes I know there on Sony, same as the X factor dweebs, I know that it's kinda ironic that the main thrust of the song is someone shouting "Fuck you, I won't do whatcha tell me" when it appears that a lot of people have obeyed the facebook God....But 1) It means Simon Cowell's little bum-boy isn't number one at Christmas, 2) A little bit of people powah for once.Did anyone read The Sun yesterday with matey going "I hate this song, how can anyone sing along to it?? I've worked sooo hard for this... boo hoo..."Sorry mate, you've done SOME work, working hard is what Normal people do...tghey don't get handed stuff on a plate....(To Be Continued on Grump thread)....

The very modest planning application for my damp collapsing hovel was rejected. Well I don’t give a shit. The Charlatans played a superb gig in sunny Crewe on Friday and Rage Against The Machine are Christmas number 1. It has been a truly great weekend :D

^Funnily enough there was a familiar (I think) looking Mazda parked in front of me when I returned to the car too. B348 MVT has done the rounds on here hasn't it? Rather poor phone camera photo to follow.

There is a lad in town with a BD Mazda 323 in a light metallis green like Mats one but a 5 door.

That's probably the one - I didn't investigate too closely. It was -6 when I got back to the car and its heater blower's come over all PMT. Needed to drop off a mate for a Manchester train so couldn't really hang about. Bloody great gig though, you missed out there!

As one of the older contributors to this forum, I have to say that, whilst I understand the thinking behind the effort to break X Factor's monopoly of the Xmas No 1, I would rather listen to Joe than RATM anyday!!! I too greatly enjoyed James May's Lego house programme, but I wasn't totally convinced. I'd like to have seen how they supported the second floor, and the roof. Those beams didn't look like lego to me.

Agreed. Don't like X Factor slush or RATM shouty noise. Next year they ought to campaign for some proper music to get to No 1 - Elvis Suspicious Minds, The Byrds Mr Tambourine Man, Stevie Wonder Superstition etc etc.Anyway, I'd just like to give a big thumbs up to Test Cricket. Not that dumbed-down 20/20 or one day stuff but 5 day test matches. Any game that can go on for 5 days & still be a draw (& therefore alienates most American sports fans) is just genious.I bloody love cricket, me.

UK finally allows wifey to stay another 2 years. :D Very very happy indeed. It took a complex analysis on a spreadsheet of our last 12 month's water bill to decide 2 people were living in our house. That bit belongs in the Grumpy thread, but today's news is grin, not grump.Happy Christmas to you all - grumpy or not.
