What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

The Mazda has had a bit of a death-rattle for the last few weeks, leaving me expecting the worst.

Turns out it has adjustable tappets, which was news to me. Its also a 12 valve engine, which was also news. Anyway, half an hour with the feeler gauge and its running as quietly as can be expected again.

Had a great chat with the driver, he uses it as much as he can, turns out hes had it since 1995 he paid £50 for it, he knew where my house was without me even mentioning, im going to have to get more subtle cars that blend in i think because everyone knows my house

I am finding that too - my sister was talking to someone the other days who said "oh that bloke with all the old cars"

I took the Herald to MOT last week.  It passed which is always good.  But then that's not surprising as it was still the 1960s in the garage and the test was easier back in those days.

Aye - I passed your place on my way to Cannock at the start of the month!

I offered to do a tip run for some lady whose husband had recently died and she didn't drive, was upset and generally not liking it being in her garage. My main reason was there was a nice dc04 in the pile. Did that today, and she made me take £20. So that went in the gooner.

At the tip though, I asked a lady who had 2 hoovers in her boot if I could have them, she said yes.

Youtube suggested that I listen to a Ned Flanders inspired metal band

I'm not sure if this is the best or worst thing ever to be honest

I have always thought the HB Viva to be a much superior car to the Mk1 Escort.

I have driven several of each and quite a few HC Vivas - the Essy has nicer steering, much nicer gearbox (shift) action and slightly sweeter engines IMHO - for everything else I agree, the Viva is a nicer (and possibly more durable) motor.

Top grin.

Over the last 4 years I've been putting weight on and generally eating all the time.

During this time I've been taking mirtazipine anti-depressants up until 4 weeks ago.

The wife was put on them recently and she started putting weight on and eating like me so she looked into them and found that the biggest side affect is increased appetite and weight gain.

We've both come off them and gone onto a different pill and the change is amazing!!

Week before last I lost 7kg and this week just gone I've lost 5kg and my appetite is rock bottom so much so that I'm hardly eating much but more importantly not snacking all the time.

Can't believe it was something so simple as a change of medication!!

Sertraline was rubbish for me, made me feel even worse than not taking it. I find Fluoxetine is OK for doing what it is supposed to do but has other side effects like making me feel very remote and disassociative from people around me among other things. Not tried any others though I have seen Mirtazipine mentioned on here several times and looked into it but apparently it does not interract well with alcohol. While I'm no raging alky, I cannot go without a drink, typically 5-10 units a day, all in the evenings. What happens if you drink while taking Mirtazipine? Does it just not work, or do you turn into a white mouse or worse?

From what I can tell it dates from the early 1970s but the clunky tech involved screams late 1950s to me! He found the original "Party Time" branded speakers so I'll pick those up when I head back north this weekend, he's also got an 8-track player for me...

You gave a car away?!

Yah. Although I've gained a Soviet record player and potentially an upright Amstrad jobbie with built in tape deck which is apparently as naff as it is 80s-tastic, so it's not all bad.

Posted

I used to have an upright amstrad tape deck and record deck thing the size of a filing cabinet. I've no idea what happened to it though, my parents got me a Panasonic CD player getto blaster thing when I went to uni, and the Amstrad disappeared.

I saw SOZ OUT OF SERVICE on the front of a brokem down bus, the display board looked too full to take 'SORRY'. I hope to see KNACKED next time I see one with the engine cover up.
