Just been talking to the drugs delivery chap (retired bloke, pin money. Nice chap) and he was telling me about something that went 'missing' in the post...

A few years ago, his Uncle worked at Crewe and when he retired he was presented with a solid gold Bentley 'B' on a plinth. He died a few years later and it was given to delivery chap (don't know his name) and posted to him.

There was no one in when delivery was tried so returned to depot and then lost.... never to be seen again!

See, that's just snide. I hate it when good deeds go awry.

There was a massive bust-up in the States recently when a custom built four-rotor Wankel engine went missing. Blokey ordered the engine from New Zealand, the label went squiff and UPS sold his engine in an auction as a 'lost package'.

In other news, I have embraced the automotive VAG and bought a Seat Leon SE. I'm still getting used to it, but hard ride aside, I think we'll get on fine. My C4 will live on, too - a garage owning friend of the family has bought it as a run around. It'll be getting a reconditioned engine and gearbox next month.

Mk1 Leon? They're good-looking cars, like owning a Mk4 Golf without the VW baggage.

Hang on a minute, you don't want to tell people you have a Peugeot 605, but decided to mention a modern VAG you bought?

DOES NOT COMPUTE.

I believe I may have stopped the Rover's boot from letting water in.  This is quite an achievement especially since I didn't just gaffer tape it shut.

I love that fold-away SD1 3500 right at the beginning.

Leyland on the IAA 1977.... That leyland representative in the blue suit would be sacked within hours in 2016.

grey suit: "What can say to counteract the German public's sceptism towards the brand, especially the build quality, service and the availabity of spare parts?"

blue suit: "I welcome this question and dearly love to answer it" Obviously he does not at all and he is not convinced it will improve :)

I am sure he went on selling Laguna 2 in the 2000s...

Picked up Mrs N's Freelander tonight from having a new clutch, concentric slave cylinder and DMF. Not only does it drive better than it ever has in 3 years of owning it. I managed to save the best part of £300.

You may rember it was RAC'd to our local Land Rover specialists, they quoted £1050 plus vat and were to start it last Monday, on Thursday ,they still hadn't started it and were talking about subbing the job out to a clutch man in Bletchley, I realised I knew their clutch man and had done for 25 years, so spoke to him and he could do it on Saturday. The LR place were quite happy for me to take it direct( I've known them for years and all my family throw money at them on a regular basis, so they know I'll be back) so a bit of string was attached to the back of the Merc and my Dad dragged me to Bletchley from Whaddon. It's so much easier been towed by someone who knows what they're doing,I don't think the rope went slack once and I didn't see the brakelights come on my Merc at any junctions.

In the meantime I'd picked up a DMF from Europarts for £175, which is about a third of what they were 2 years ago, clutch man supplied and fitted new clutch and slave, spent an hour cleaning all the sludge, shit and bits of old flywheel out of the bell housing ,then charged the quite reasonable sum of £550. (Which has had to go on credit card, because skint post Christmas)

Just got to find out why the battery light keeps coming on, he tested it and battery and alternator both fine , LR forums no help so far , it happens a lot but nobody knows why, apparently!

Anyway, if you need a clutch near Milton Keynes, Clutchmaster in Denbigh is your man , good shiter credentials too , he's got a lovely DS. In fact he used to refill Citroen spheres, I bought a couple for a BX years ago.

One has had a most pleasant afternoon/evening watching films and eating loads of Chinese nosh at a friends house. I forgot to take food for the mutts so they had sweet and sour chicken balls (without the sauce!) for their dinner!

But try and figure out these flight times - it looks as if I will be time-travelling!

Anyone seen that MS story in the news? Immune system "reboot", switching off with chemo and switching on again with their own stem cells. Flipping miracle.

People can be so amazing and so clever.

Happens with very short journeys that.

They've only (nearly) done it in mice. Sort of.

It's a bit scary that they're even talking about doing such drastic stuff when genetics is still such a relatively young discipline, too. I agree that the theory behind it is incredibly clever and awe-inspiring, but we know a hell of a lot less about ourselves than we like to make out.

Is that green a British Leyland colour?

No quite, it dries a fair bit lighter, but it does have a bit of a 70s vibe

That's great, thanks for posting it.  The foldaway Rover at the beginning is identical to mine, apart from being LHD (and cut in half).

I love the offroading section about 10 minutes in, where a Rancho gets as far up a sand hill as a 109" Land Rover.

I think this is stem cell transplant rather than gene therapy.
