What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Chopping up a big tree at the end of the garden with Mrs_P's chainsaw earlier in the year, and carefully storing the chunks in a wood store made out of an old rabbit hutch, is paying off. Toasty warm.

I know there are plenty of grump posts here about doddgy ebay buyerts and how the seller always gets screwed over, so time to redress the balance. On occasion I sell unfranked stamps, never had a problem until a buyer demanded a return as they " most weren't1st class" (description clearly stated it was a mixture) and most had been franked (complete lie). But to save grief I agreed a return so I can sell them to someone who can read. I pay for a return label but hear nothing for about 6 weeks, until I get an email saying they're being returned. They still don't arrive and today the buyer opened a case against me. However a few hours later ebay find in my favour without even asking for my side, release the funds and stop her leaving feedback (which oddly she hadn't done).

Presumably it was because the label I paid for proves she didn't send them back. Can I claim my money back for that now?

Hermes smashed up a hoover I gave to someone last month. They asked me to provide shit loads of evidence, over 6 messages and 5 weeks.

They could not get their head round the fact it wasnt an ebay item, and no money changed handsz and last week washed their hands of it by stating it was an electrical item, and excluded from their compo policy. I was only trying to get my postage cost back, matey who had the hoover didn't care so no worry there.

I called them fuckwits on my message on friday, and got a message back earlier apologiseing and offering me my postage charge and £12 back!

Swearing works!

Still have all my OO Gauge trainset from when I was a lad. My lads have shown no interest in it other than to stage epic crashes and destruction so instead of collecting further dust I ebayed the lot

£300 better off right now! Ready to be converted into bits for Land Rovers

Next up is the Meccano - it is all green and red post war stuff and I must have at least 30 kilos of it, not sure if I job lot it or do it in bundles.

Hoorah! My wallet was found on the bus, which I thought was pretty much the only place it could be. Thankfully, I never put cash in my wallet, which is good! If I had, then it would have contained the £160 for Panda's Volvo...

Going through our annual security and other stuff training. Got this question and answer.

Ethics

Q: What should you do when you are faced with an ethical issue and are not sure what to do?

Research the issue on the Internet to see how others have handled a similar situation

Seek help by consulting higher levels of management or our legal teamtick_green_big.gif

Ignore the issue; it is the responsibility of management to decide what is right and what is wrong

I wouldn't trust some of my senior management any further than I could throw them.

Mrs P owns a chainsaw? Old rabbit hutch?

The hutch was vacated before I bought her a chainsaw for Christmas ;-)

Citroen Saxo (Free)

Honda Legend (£150)

Ford Ka (£50)

806 (£300)

Jag (£300)

and a Mica (£225)

If you want to get high without having to spend any money, drive 8 miles with 30l of heating fuel in various squash/milk containers in the rear footwell. Fookin hell, even with the front windows open I feel a bit wheeeeeeeee

Will drive a few miles with the windows open on the way home before sparking a rolly, I;ve left them open a tad now to try and mitigate the fumes...

Is heating fuel the same as heating oil? If so then they run their cars on it here (I think it's one up from heavy fuel oil, few additives and likely to wax at temperatures you probably don't get where you are anyway), so you could've slipped it in your fuel tank and then, erm, left it there.

I have no idea tbh, the freecycle ad described it as Heating Oil, drained from an IBC that contained Fuel Oil, I dont pretend to not know. Consistency of water, very light brown/piss colour. It may get to the heady heights of -1 in the mornings round here, I'll chuck 10l of veg in the tank then *certainly not* add 30l of this to it...

Ah, I get the picture, nod's as good as a wink...

Laughing at myself really: I've finally got the mig running after many years so, apart from a few odd jobs, I thought I could finally make the trolley for it I've always wanted. I've got some scrap 20mm square tube to use as a frame. I'm well out of practice though, so far I have:

- Totally failed to judge a 45 degree angle.

- cut one end the wrong way from the other

- measured outside instead of in, so everything's 20mm too short

- burnt a big hole in my jumper.

And how many parts have I made* so far? 2. Jesus, what a knob. I'm going to have to learn this one all over again :(

Much better now, I had my brain switched on this time. I must confess it's been so long since I did any the welding started out a bit "Where the feck am I welding? I can't see a bloody thing!" but then it seemed to fall back in place and I was doing full welds, rather than pigeon shit dabs everywhere.

Now all I need to do is find some way of attaching a sodding great gas bottle to a tiny little welder. I was thinking some sort of chain but then I'd need to make some sort of attachment to be able to take it apart to move the bottle. Or maybe I could weld a steel loop to the welder itself. Hey, that'll be tricky, using a welder to weld to itself, I guess I won't be needing the earth clamp...

Afternoon in the office means that I have had 4 hours of youtubing music. I had forgotten how ace some stuff was.

First job when you buy a new welder should always be making a trolley to put your welder on!

My gas bottle sits on a platform at the back and is held by a chain going round it near the top which has a strong spring out of a drum brake mechanism I think which allows the chain to pull tight round the bottle and still be unhooked when needed.

Ohh, very nice sir! My mig's a Clarke 90 so it's tiny, with the cartridge bottles it was easy enough to move around but this big bastard of a bottle makes that more of a challenge. I still want it to be as portable as possible because a lot of my welding has been elsewhere, quite often in gardens, so I want it as light as possible. My trolley is just a frame for it to sit on, with a platform at the back for the bottle. I still need to source some wheels for it, easy enough here but I'm not sure if I can get stub axles for them or if I'll need to make something (lathe on Christmas list).

Nice wheels on the back but I suspect casters will sink into mud...

I just welded a big bolt on each side as an axle for the wheels. I dont really do a lot of miles with it, so thats good enough!

Those wheels though.....cheapest I could find here was 20 euros each, which is a bit strong, but the same shop sells a basic sack barrow for 24 euros with the two wheels included!

The casters do sink in mud, but its easy enough to lift the whole front up and just wheel it on the back wheels.

Its not exactly portable though - I am no seven-stone weakling but still struggle to lift it when the bottle is full, so using it outside is troublesome especially if I am doing something like railings or gates and the torch isnt long enough to reach to the top. I have a wee inverter arc welder which is literally the size of two paperback novels, but Im not too hot at arc welding - need to practice more.

As the fella in the BMW next to us at the lights found out, it's the real deal. I've had a couple of miles drive of it, it's bloody mad!

That's a good point :D I suspect my mind is still stuck in lawnmower mode. I imagined using a plain rod and putting a thrust washer and cotter pin in it or something similarly preposterous

20 Eurines seems a bit pricey for just a wheel, I bought a wheel for a friend's lawnmower a long time back (it ate the old one) and I have a vague memory of it costing something daft like 4 quid. I'd prefer something wider for this but like that would do. I was thinking maybe to put 2 on the back and do some sort of plate for it to sit on at the front, in a kind of tip it up and go kind of thing, but If they are indeed that cheap I might go mad and buy 4. Hey, you only live, er, what was it?

Well it looks as if mrs fp is serious about me starting a weldathon on project teabag, her gold mk1 sierra 3 door, she has bought a roll over jig so I don't have to be lying on my back welding it and is talking about getting a suitable gazebo so I can be covered, it must be love

Full tank of 'fuel' for £6! Yet to see if it gives me my first ftp in my ownership though once it runs the neat derv out of the system and picks up the new stuff...
