Cara doesn't appear to be bothered by the fireworks at all

Posted

We have to be careful with fireworks 'cos our idiot westie Scrappy tries to chase them/eat them/hump them. He's normally kept inside, standing on top of the unit, barking at the window 'cos he can't get outside.

We finally have a moving date of this Saturday.  Woo and yay and other expressions of joy.  All in all it will have taken five long frustrating weeks from applying for the house to moving in.

I hope I never have to move again.

Our dogs are from Thailand and were so used to massive bangs and loud noises they just ignore them. The screaming rockets makes them turn all scrappy doo and wanna fight the rockets!

Had a most enjoyable day over in Milton Keynes watching the funfair depart. The ground was in a bad way before they even arrived as it had been used for the rugby world cup - it looked like the matches had been played there but the damage was actually done by spectators watching the games on giant screens. A week of rain made conditions extremely muddy, and the modern lorries were getting stuck all over the place. What did they turn to for help? A 35-year old ERF of course :-D

All modern lorries are shit.

Mine haven't been too bad with the fireworks (unlike poor Bob who used to be terrified) although a strange side-effect is that Ted, the failed gun-dog, takes each bang as a signal to run-off and retrieve something, coming back wagging his tail with a shoe, cushion, toy, ball, blanket, etc.until I'm surrounded by crap and have to kick it all out of the way. It's not too bad when he drops it at my feet, but if I don't praise him and tell him he's a good boy he'll try to shove stuff in my face in case I haven't seen it.

I haven't seen or heard a single firework or bonfire this year. Or trick-or-treaters. Sometimes I'm glad to be stuck in this cultural backwater.

Moog mentioned Thailand - I'll be back there in time for the Loi Krathong and Yi Peng festival in two weeks, it turns Chiang Mai into a flipping firework and bangers war-zone. It's pretty though.

Hardly any here either, but then again it's been foggy and/or raining since last monday.

This is a standard reaction.

The horror takes a decade or two to wear off.

Wrong thread really, but as the rest of the conversation seems to be here... Memphis hates fireworks.  For the last couple of weeks, whenever I've taken her out at night, she's decided to walk a few steps then stop.  And when she stops, she stops.  We are fairly sure it's the fireworks scaring her.  Strange, as she came from Cyprus where Easter (and any other occasion they can think of) is a massive bangfest.  We lived across the road from a field, you can guess the rest.  She was fine there.  It's a mystery.

I popped to get some plastic primer and some lacquer earlier from the range as I was passing and the range of spray paint caught my eye

It made me smile because of How long its been that something was produced that needs these shades, a few other favourites were there as well e.g rover amaranth and ford purple velvet to name a couple

Amys just woken me up complaining about hearing a beeping noise. She goes off to investigate, opens the back bedroom window and its a car horn.

I pop out with the rest of the neighbors and the friendly single dad bloke's utter shed of a mazda xedos (which I secretly like, lacquer peel everywhere, never washed but new tyres etc) had put its horn on. Someone had their household toolkit out trying to find something to fix it with, I went and got my socket set and took the live terminal off, silence! Left my socket set with him so he can put the live back on, sounds like a complicated bastard to fix though!

I'd been watching an item on ebay. It was a local guy selling some odds and ends tools. A few spanners, few sockets, hacksaws etc.

Nothing fancy, but I would have had a pop at a tenner.... but the starting price was £20. I waited til the auction ended (with zero bids) and said.

"Hi there. I saw your tools didn't sell. I'd be happy to buy them for £10 if thats any good to you? Could pick them up whenever is good for you"

Our man replies...

"You can have them for £25 take it or leave it" to which I replied "Hi. I'm afraid I'd only offer £10 which I know you've already turned down. As always things are only worth what someone is willing to pay, which for me is £10. Good luck with your sale though, I hope you get what you want for them"

Brain of the year's riposte..."you just be joking pal the spanners alone are worth £25"

I didn't reply to this. 4 days pass, and today out of the blue he messages me..."i'm not rushed pal anyway I live in the med most of the year. its lovely" accompanied by a photo of a dark street, that could be fucking anywhere because its so low res it might as well be an etching. So i replied

"Wow. You must be living the millionaires lifestyle then if you're arguing the toss over £15 for some old tools. Enjoy the med, good luck with the sale" Within about 30 seconds George Clooney replies

"its 40 quid if you want them nnow pal and believe me sum mug will buy them". I've yet to receive a response to my reply, but I'm eager to see what tomorrow brings..

"The only mug stupid enough to pay £40 for your old tools already owns them mate, so good luck"

Autoshite class riposte - Well done that man :-)

what a twat !!

Is that Halfords? You have to wonder who decides what colours to stock. You can get a mustard yellow that was only used on the Nova SR for one year, but you can't get VW Storm Grey.

You have to slip Medway in there somehow. Nice one Vulg :)

The Range.

I had a similar experience when noticed they had VW Tornado Red (for the Scirocco). £5 a can. Everywhere else is £15 or made to order.

Bizarre.

To be honest if someone sends me a low offer on ebay I will either ignore it and add them to my blocked bidders list. Or if it is really insulting I will report them to ebay.

Fook me!! You can report someone for shit like that?

I understand blocking some folk btw........but report someone for an 'insulting' bid seems a bit ott

You can report someone for attempting to trade outside eBay.

I want to see these £40 spanners.

Owing to an ever dwindling income we decided to actually cancel our Sky subscription and check out the alternatives. We have Sky+, phone and broadband at a cost of around £70 per month. Too much. Alternatives would be buying a Freesat+ box or similar plus changing phone and broadband supplier. Rang Sky to inform them of intended cancellation and after a fairly short conversation they have reduced the charges.

Ok, so HD has gone, but can't tell the difference anyway. Now £29.80 per month for the next year.

Result.

I got ours down to £54 per month for phone, tv, line rental and BB. I should look around for better but our internet has no download limit, and I cant find another package anywhere with no useage cap that doesnt cost ££££. Ours only really creeps up to £65/70 per month when the flange gets a bit happy with the mobile phone calls (or when she calls me on my mobile, I answer, and she hangs up so I can ring her back, forgetting that that's a 35p connection charge right there, so she may as well have had the conversation and spent the 80/90p and got our moneys worth...
